A.G. (Alex) Tsakumis is the founder and co-founder of several successful ventures in both private and public markets and has sat on many national and local Boards. At Lexington Warburg, an asset management firm, he served as Executive Vice-President and at Buena Vista Resorts (Playa Investments), a resort development firm, he served as Chief Operating Officer until June of 2005. He is also the former Senior Vice-President of Trigate Development Corporation, developers of retail and commercial shopping centers and strip malls in Canada and the United States.
Alex has spent three very successful years with SunMedia’s 24hrs. Newspaper, where he was one of two senior columnists and a political analyst. He started as a guest columnist, rising in a very short time, to having the most popular column at 24 hours Vancouver. In those years his weblist grew from 211 loyal readers to a staggering 72,000.
A former panelist with CFAX 1070AM’s popular ’Public Eye Radio Show’ and the only resident political commentator/analyst on OMNI TV’s highly rated public affairs program ’The Standard’, Alex has appeared many times on CKNW radio’s ’The Bill Good Show’, as well as ’The John McComb Show’ and regularly on ‘The Sean Leslie Show’. He has also provided commentary to CBC Radio 690AM. He was the first ever blogger for CTV Vancouver, where he also provided political commentary and has appeared several times on Global News. He has also contributed to the Vancouver Sun.
A frequent donor and fundraiser through various charities Alex favours the Children’s Hospital, Canuck Place, Variety Club of B.C., CHILD Foundation, the Cancer Society, Children’s Heart Action Network, the Vancouver Aquarium, AIDS Vancouver The Steve Nash Foundation and St. Paul’s Foundation. He is particularly proud of his work with and support of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, which promotes and builds Christian support for Israel. In the past, he advised the Canada-Israel Committee’s Media Relations Team and is an ardent supporter and life-long member of the Hellenic community of Greater Vancouver.
Alex is most active and considers it a privilege to work with the Minerva Foundation for Women and The Nature Trust of British Columbia.
He has served as the Chair of the Legacy Development Team and Director of the Surrey Foundation of Surrey, British Columbia and is a strong supporter of the Cascadia Prosperity Forum, where he remains an active member.
Alex also had the privilege of being elected to two terms as President of The Georgians, the alumni association of St. George’s School. The Georgians count 6,000 alumni in 42 countries and comprise some of the best-known and most accomplished men in Canadian history. During his tenure, the organization realized its most successful years and greatest growth ever. Although Alex has retired as President, he remains an active member of The Georgians Board of Directors.
Alex has vast political experience having worked in campaigns at the municipal, provincial and federal levels since 1980. He is a former provincial aide and a political advisor (at the tender age of twenty three) to then Premier of British Columbia the Hon. William N. VanderZalm.
He was a member of the Board of Directors (two terms) of Vancouver’s Civic Non-Partisan Association (NPA), and a lifelong member of the Conservative Party of Canada, having served two terms as Director in Vancouver South.
He is married to Marianna and they have three wonderful children, George Alexander, Gina Maria, and Giulia Francesca.
