Marji Basso and John Slater–Please Call Me ASAP…I Won’t Wait Past Today
I’ve never had to do this before, because I’ve never dealt with this kind of story.
In my possession is very disturbing information–exceedingly disturbing information, that, if published, will hand the provincial riding of Boundary Similkameen to Linda Larson of the BC Liberals. While that’s not really my concern, what’s of importance here, is that Basso and Slater call me before I do the story. The details are provocative to say the least, but I’ve confirmed the story with multiple sources.
I will give Marji Basso, the NDP candidate, and John Slater, the current MLA and now Independent, until 3pm today–Thursday– to contact me. I’ve left you both my office and cell phone numbers.
You both need to pick up that phone and get a hold of me.
In the absence of that, I will happily accept a call from their respective campaigns.
I hate stories like these, but the details of what I have are demonstrable proof that neither Basso nor Slater have the principled judgement to be in public life.
I’ll wait until 3pm, and if I don’t hear from Slater and Basso, I will consider my options by Monday and either publish on that day or instead, just furnish the information to the Basso and Slater campaigns and let them decide if either of these people should be (re)entering public life, at the provincial level.
At that point, Basso and Slater can answer to their immediates, the public, and their respective families.
Thereafter, I will not feel one iota of guilt if the results are life-altering for either of them. As I said, I HATE stories like these, but I’m trying to be nice about it and both Slater and Basso are being obstreperous and refusing to return calls.
In all likelihood because they know exactly why I’m calling
Fair warning.
Thank you.

Blackmail is a crime involving unjustified threats to make a gain or cause loss to another unless a demand is met!! Suggest RCMP need to take a look at this!

Yet another fool.
What sure material loss was caused? Can you define one in law? Define a threat? Do you have proof one was made? Where is your proof of blackmail? And you have the gall to appear while hiding behind a fake name?
Go pack sand.

There are situations in a democracy where anonymity is needed and justified, how we vote is one, and to report crime is another. Our constitution guarantees society freedom of opinion and a freedom of the press – the foundation for democracy. We can all openly write and say what we wish and be hold accountable for our positions.
Threat someone that unless a demand is met – I Won’t Wait Past Today – information will be released that transgresses democracy and justice thus something RCMP should look at.
Wee don’t want McCarthyism in Canada!!!

You’re a totql idiot. That’s not what I qrote and not the information I shared, nor in the way I suggested it.
Go right ahead. Watch what happens.
You’re a coward who will be found out now, I assure you.
I’ve had quite enough.

Wow, this is blackmail at its sleaziest! If you are threatening either one of these people with a moral issue, I doubt many of us can sit in judgement or even care. And frankly, If it is a criminal issue, well you shouldn’t hold back on something like that anyways! At any rate, blackmail is a serious offense under the law. And no, I am not affiliated with any particular party.

If you knew the definition of blackmail, it would help.
Go away, foolish person. Another crackpot appears…

Name calling too! How professional of you! lol And if this so-called disturbing information is personal andoif no consequence to their job performances and is not illegal, well then who are you to judge them? Especially since days ago you defended John Slater in some comments. If your information is suspected illegal or criminal activity, well then you should not withhold it regardless if they are or aren’t bending to your threats to expose them. I notice you did not address my comment about that.

What a COMPLETE fool you are. It’s not a matter of professional or not, it’s an observation that needn’t take much effort in your case.
You’re accusing me of judging??? Who the hell are YOU to judge ME? No contradiction or hypocrisy there, nope, not at all. LMAO!
What they did is not illegal, it’s totally and completely unethical. If they thought it wasn’t, why did they both resign within 72 hours of learning what I had??? GO AWAY, you incredible embarrassment. Are you that thick that you can’t figure out what I’m referring to, you dimwit?!
It speaks to the very core of what we want in public officials: Honesty, integrity, and principle.
And, once again, I NEVER threatened anyone you contemptible moron. Not once. Learn to read. One of your online profiles describes you as an ‘Independent Online writer’. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You have to be able to read before writing.
I’m in Osoyoos every summer. Everyone I’ve ever met is bright and articulate. I hope I don’t bump into you anywhere. It’ll ruin my image of the place, and I gather I’ll want to shower rather quickly.
Now, run along into some orchard. Go on…

Very very strange how both candidates in same riding for opposing parties dropped out almost simultaneously – odds are astronomical against coincidence.
Vehemence of protests above alleging blackmail is strange too – as WAC used to say, they don’t shoot at dead ducks, ergo the story you’re sitting on is a humdinger.
Note too that the new Rafe Mair law on libel allows publishing things in the public interest even if/when they’re not all true, so publish and be damned. But your track record provides a context that should insulate you from backlashes. You may get sued but the suits should fail – assuming the published info has some basic credibility and is phrased prudently.

I don’t think it’s right that people should be intimidated from seeking public office by a threat tp make private matters public and turn them into political footballs.
BC is unfortunately still an extremely puritanical and Victorian place.

Good! I agree. That would be totally offside.

I heard Marji Basso might now run as an idependant. Yes okay lets keep this three ring circus going. I hope some otheres will come out of the wood work, who has some class, integrity, and put this fiasco behind us.
