i would like to see someone attack mcfd/cps/cas/ or any other group that “legally” takes children from their parents for often b.s. reasons. i know many people that have had their children taken and few have ever been returned. i believe this is due to unregulated, unaccountable, unregistered social workers (at least here in b.c.) having free run to do as they see fit. taking on a single case may get attention but if things are to change it must be taken on as a whole entity. i would like to have these offices and social workers held accountable for physical, emotional, mental abuse and in rare cases death of children as well as parents dealing with these agencies. if accountability is FORCED upon them, changes will inevitably follow. thanx in advance for your time in this matter alex and keep up the good work!!

I’m curious to know if CC’s overtures to families is a prelude to warming up voters to the idea of universal daycare (ie. an expansion of the nanny state) where parents that are able, would contribute 50% of daycare costs. This would be a five-billion dollar proposition to start, according to the multi-day Vancouver Sun article run last year.
I believe it was MCFD who commissioned a UBC study last year to examine the benefits of this concept, with the primary intent of addressing the large population of “at risk” children, and as well, catching these young kids and addressing the problems by then allocating services. Presumably, service delivery would occur whether or not the parents agree.
So the question is, EXACTLY what is the deal with this families-first platform if it is not another government make-work project?

Question-It’s long winded but I don’t have any other method of expressing it.
Alex, I’m from Chilliwack and I believe, have had the experience of having the two worst MP’s in the history of Canada. Both with the same last name and both with a track record of promising to fight for the constituents but both either voting with the party or abstaining from the vote. However, this last example of the now sitting member has to be one of the most ignorant acts an elected official could perform. A resident of Chilliwack, single Mom, fighting cancer approached Mark Strahl with concern about her EI benefits expiring just after 15 weeks. She actually had a face to face to face meeting with the Mark and he assured her that he would talk personally to the minister responsible for EI about her case, only to return to Ottawa and vote against a bill that would extend EI benefits for 50 weeks to the those who are ill . She has been undergoing chemo (3rd round in Dec) and is unable to work and has no EI benefits remaining. Friends, family and community are assisting and the local Chilliwack Times has reported this MP’s atrocious record. I know the community is fighting a losing battle when it comes to attempting to take an MP to task but my question to you is: How can we as a community get this MP to face up to his responsibilities? A dead skunk would get elected in this riding as long as he/she are Conservative.

you say in your article “While their placements can sometimes last many years, the long-term goal of the Ministry of Children and Family Development is to keep original families united.” that is complete and utter b.s. i run a group on facebook called MCFD Injustice and there are COUNTLESS stories of good parents fighting the MCFD for their children with little or no chance of having their families re-united. uniting families IS NOT their main goal. there is no money filtering down through the ranks if the children are returned. please grab your head and pull it out of your bum and take a look around….you’ll find you are sorely mistaken with that statement. if you would like a realistic view of what REALLY happens behind the closed doors of the mcfd and other “child protection groups” around the world, apply to join the group MCFD Injustice and talk with some of the members. this is mine and 2 other groups you might find that would disagree with that statement as well!

Hello Every one sorry for the absence of late. Nicole (my wife) and I had a beautiful healthy baby girl no withdrawal or need of any treatment December 21st, 2012 @ 2:32am ; 7lb 6 oz.. We are still in the hospital as the hospital will not release the baby unless she comes home with us. Unfortunately the MCFD trying to seek custody of her with in hours of Noelle being born – how soulless eh!. Even thought Nicole is 7 plus months clean and now they cite me as not having capacity to parent after I have raised our son for more than 2 1/2 years says Monica Xu (un registered) social worker MCFD Richmond office so here we stay. NUTS – say any ideas? Oh added the MCFD said they will not back off unless we give up custody to a relative or they will seek adoption- quoted team leader Nazeem Rattanshi of the Richmond office to many witnesses.

KINDER MORGAN : PLAN B —Relocate all Kinder Morgan facilities and shipping and to ROBERTS BANK—that’s why Roberts Bank was built—yes we know that a conveyor system could be damaged as happened recently at Westshore terminals—but what about a Burrard Inlet CNR rail bridge damage ‘incident’ and SPILL at Second Narrows??…OR WORSE ?

BC citizens should not be asked to bear all the risks without comprehensive disaster insurance scheme in place—! It might be of interest to consider all those who would profit from the Northern Gateway project—the oil PRODUCER,the PIPE LINER,and the SHIP OWNER—each should therefore contribute to a SPILL DISASTER FUND—show us a commercially viable insurance plan.BC citizens do not want to pay for cleanup and law suits while the beneficiaries point fingers and say it ‘ain’t’ my problem! Seems fair-?
The BC public needs to see a willingness by the pipe liners to listen and respond—OR maybe we’re left with the option of leaving the oil in the ground !! Until???
We’re not against pipe lines—but we do want to decide who can build and OPERATE a pipe line in our area—we see lots of pretty pictures in full page ads in BC—but no real Board of Director ‘stewardship statement’ that shows the that the Board is willing to commit to a NEW CULTURE that emphasizes OPERATIONS safety..not just pretty ads by Janet—but a full Board of Directors operations safety Epiphany
