You Can Blame It On My Lawyers….and the Rain!!!

43

Like you, I’ve been waiting for the next Basi-Virk piece.

It’s two days late coming back from the lawyers’ office.

They assure me it will be here tomorrow. Therefore, a double dose of Basi-Virk Monday.

And remember: You’ll love whose name is all over one of the documents.

I apologize for any frustration of inconvenience. Plus, I’ve been on the road and it’s tough getting a connection.

It’ll be worth it, trust me.

Enjoy the weekend. Lots of rain damn it! Ugh!

Be safe out there.

    Whew!
I was beginning to think that THEY had got you.
I guess I’ll stand down the posse.
Of course it’s raining Alex, just insured the Cobra on Wednesday.
Should GUARANTEE rain for the next 2 months.
    Grr………………………

    Cheers.

I took the slicks off and went to all seasons.

      Bloody hell.

      • Blake Newton says:

(Was) Nice here in the Okanagan. Fired up the Charger (with it’s new high rise intake) and going to fire up the motorhome. Rain clouds now and thankfully I live on higher ground. BTW there were two elderly folk manning the BC Conservative bench in the local mall. They were nice enough and pretty much validated what I believe about the members being more inclined to vote for Hitler rather than Christy Clark. They seemed in the dark (surprise) about the BC Rail inquiry and towards the end were asking questions about George Abbot and Eric Foster. I laughed and told them that the Liberals would be lucky to get six seats next election. My belief is that Salmon Arm, Vernon and Kelowna may either go to the NDP (probably) or to the Conservatives. The Liberals are gone in these areas. In Penticton we might see the Liberals hold onto one but it’s not a certain thing for sure.

Any word on Bill Barisoff’s plans?

          • AGT says:

That was precisely who I thought of first.

He’s been less than overwhelming as Speaker.

            • blake says:

Barisoff is an idiot. He keeps bringing Christy in and unfortunately the people in Pen town are more than inclined to vote for these hammer handles. I have no idea whether or not he’ll run but I’d put money on it. This might (and I say MIGHT) be a safe seat. Anyways gotta go. Sun is shining and I have to try and get some stuff done.

  2. Bas says:

    Thanks for the post Alex.

I was afraid that maybe the “horsemen” had corralled you. After all, as the story goes, “we know your type!”

Enjoy the weekend and thanks again for all that you are exposing about this very corrupt government.

    • AGT says:

      No worries.

If they collared me…there is a plan in place. You’d have already heard of me sitting in the can.

And the police would be contending with a crowd outside in the thousands.

It’s up to them. I’m doing absolutely nothing wrong.

  3. James says:

You are doing everything absolutely right as is your normal way Alex.
Thanks for all you do, can’t wait for your next installment.

we will be ok waiting until Monday, in the meantime, there is an amusing column on the TC blog:

    • nonconfidencevote says:

Another great article, the few critical voices in the media are starting to build…..
The previous idea of a countdown clock for Christy is also a great way to keep the publics attention on her and the loomnig election.
One wonders where she will travel as Preem in the coming months when it becomes apparent (even to her) that she’s done….Similar to Ujaal Dosangh’s tour to India when he was temporary Preem that was mockingly dubbed “Back to the Punjab Tour” by the media wags that were in tow
You know, the “trade/ information” trips that cost the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars and achieve nothing more than a “grandstand wave” to the cameras for the media circus maximus. But hey! The media dont complain….its a free trip to exotic locales.
Just keep an eye out for Christy and the entourage jetting off to foriegn lands over the next few months…..

tick, …..tick…. tick goes the countdown clock

      • Tim says:

I disagree with that interpretation of the article insofar as I think it’s just an admission that, up until now, the media were happy copy-pasting government press releases into articles without doing proper fact-checking or having the balls or the talent to put in the normal journalistic effort.

“When the government told us that CLBC execs’ bonuses were going to be eliminated completely, we believed them” says it all, does it not?

But we’re supposed to just believe that now that they’ve (finally) realised that the government treats them with just as much contempt as they do the general public, they’re suddenly angry? Come now.

  5. HB says:

Thanks Alex. Your courage and strength is truly admirable.

Dave, not so much. Even with your so called “due diligence” .

  6. HB says:

Sorry Alex. I scrolled up and saw the exchange between you and Dave. I misunderstood Dave’s last comment.

  7. Bruce W says:

Better safe than sorry Alex. Safe travels and have a great weekend.

  8. Smoking Halo-A-Go-Go says:

I’ve yet to put the top down because of all the RAIN…. however, it is a bit of a blessing in disguise in my industry…. the body shops call me with orders for insurance claims!

I know, not the best way to look at it…..

    • Derek says:

Wash your feet carefully….. we don’t want the damp to make your toes stick together, because you walk in very important shoes for the destiny of British Columbia.

  9. Not Mixed Up says:

Blame it on the rain… Milli Vanilli… an apt metaphor for the gong show playing in Vancouver-Point Grey and Victoria. Let’s see… Christy is Milli and Shirley Bond is Vanilli? Coming soon to the Green Timbers Rich Coleman Merlot Palace?

    • Brian Kieran's Diary says:

A lot of appropriate similarities here:

In the beginning, very popular…but when stuff started falling apart, nobody wanted anything to do with them.

A puppet master behind the scenes who wanted someone “who looked good” and didn’t care about what they actually sounded like or their intelligence.

Unfortunately for the music industry, people thought it was a great idea to get good looking “artists” with questionable talent and “tweak them” (i.e. auto tune). I hope BC politics goes the opposite way and starts demanding intelligence and moral substance from their MLA’s!

  10. Ron R says:

Sorry Alex, but had to bring this up: WorksafeBC managers also collecting big bonuses…
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/06/22/bc-video-worksafe-bc-bonuses.html

  11. BC Forever says:

another slightly off topic – two big stories in the Vanc Sun about energy policy and the “electricity shortage” (wink wink nudge nudge) – total fluff pieces accompanied by video ads by Hydro (paid for by all of our monthly ‘contributions’) promoting smart meters etc etc……WHERE IS THE JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY ????????

These arent stories – they are partisan PAID ADS by a crown supporting a flawed and failing government energy policy……

I am writing to the editor – and I encourage all of you to do the same.

This shameless propping up of a dying regime must end.

I guess the sheep at Hydro dont have a choice seeing that the LIEberals have installed all their own people there. Lots of executive and management jobs at Hydro after May 2013 -

  12. George says:

This is the one sentence that jump out of this article and spoke volumes..

“You’ve got a premier who is running around trying to buy her way back into popularity by making announcements and giving people false hope,

    • OK Guy says:

While New Democratic Party health critic Mike Farnworth’s comment is about as acerbic as one would expect from Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition – the more telling comment in Fowlie’s article was this: “Falcon sent the letter to all ministers on April 19, partly as a response to an announcement made the week before by Premier Christy Clark.”

Imagine – if you can – a mere minister giving a public smackdown to Premier Campbell… NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED, and if it did the offending MLA would have been instantly stripped of their rank and condemned to a lonely office in the bowels of the legislature for the remainder of their term with no hope of renomination.

Falcon is just showing his strength as he positions himself to lead the right after the next election.

Falcon knows that CC is against the wall, and she is not strong enough to fire him – he can openly abuse her all he wants and she has to take it.

      • AGT says:

Correct on all counts, except two.

Kevin will not be leading any coalition after the election.

And Mike’s comment was hardly acerbic–it was spot on!!!

  13. Disenfranchaised Voter says:

NDP in Kelowna? I grew up in the Okanagan, and I never thought I would see the day! Hell indeed must have frozen over! If Kelowna goes NDP then it’s all over for the liberals. That should be a very safe seat. Just another sign of how bad this government is and how much the people from all sides of the political spectrum want them gone.

  14. OK Guy says:

David Baines, in the Vancouver Sun, asks the $6-million question: Should corrupt aides pay tax for defence?

    http://www.vancouversun.com/news/million+question+Should+corrupt+aides+defence/6830426/story.html

“Due to confidentiality rules, Canada Revenue Agency isn’t saying, but case law strongly suggests that it is.

If it is, then Basi and Virk owe $2.6 million in taxes (assuming the benefit is taxable at the top marginal rate of 43.7 per cent). Of this amount, $880,000 would accrue to the province and the rest to the federal government.”

    • AGT says:

      No it’s not.

I can confirm that the agreement fully covers Basi and Virk in such a case.

      I’ve seen it.

If CCRA comes, you and I pay. Not Basi or Virk.

      • Hopeful Citizen says:

Although you’re probably right, AGT, I am still thrilled to see folks waking up, questioning, and challenging the status quo. With government and corporations being so creative, playing fast and loose with loopholes in the law and befriending those charged with upholding it, it is time for people to seek equally creative ways to seek justice. Even if this–like everything else you and others have tried–does not work, I applaud the effort. I can only hope that some bureaucrats and Liberal MLAs are looking over their shoulder and having sleepless nights for fear of some accountability. If only the next government would write some anti-corruption legislation so we can move beyond toothless inquiries.

  15. Jay Jones says:

I think I’ll blame it on the BC Liberal Party like I do 99% of BC’s problems.

  16. Luigi says:

So Falcon and Coleman give the direction and do the public speaking on behalf of the government, do they? Just to be clear, fellas, that makes YOU responsible. (for things like Liquor Distribution, Rich).

Those guys must have her doing the Exorcist head spin in her sleep! Christy you’d better have one big parachute because you are so being set up to be pushed out of the plane. And guess what…..there’s not a damned thing you can do to stop it.

  17. Len says:

It was well know by the MSM in October the bonuses were only held back wages. For Clark to say anything other than they lied; and for the MSM to say anything other than they are lazy is just another lie.

  18. Thomas Lee says:

Alex, did you know that Keith Baldrey and Vaughn Palmer (Liberal friendly media types) are keynote speakers at the upcoming CGA (Liberal friendly) convention in Kelowna? Just thought you might want to know.

  19. 212Degrees says:

It is quite amazing how much effort, legal consideration, time, energy, and thoroughness went into formulating the deal with Virk and Basi in order to cover all the bases, make it air tight, and protect their interests. But I guess when your own ass is also at stake you put in extra attention and have more passion. If only the same diligence was extended to other deals (telus naming rights at BC Place and the RCMP extension come to mind) that look after the interest of all British Columbians, and not just convicted criminals and members of a corrupt government, we would all be better off.

  20. Bob Turner says:

The truth would be old news if the NDP had done this evil deed but the lieberals are supposed to be the good guys and the lying and coruption will continue until the next election. I know you don’t like the NDP alex but I don’t think they put dirty stuff in too many cornflakes while they were in government.
