The Evil Men Do Lives After Them: Is Justin Trudeau to Blame for Wanting to Destroy Canada?
On the far wall of my impossibly cluttered office, next to a signed picture of Marlon Brando and above a personally dedicated helmet of football’s most prolific passer, Dan Marino, is a framed column written by the National Post’s incomparable George Jonas.
It’s the only news clipping I’ve ever had blown up and framed and ranks along with my degrees, diplomas, and memorabilia I’ve earned and collected over the years–to steal from an increasingly senile and illogical Tony Bennett, with “some of my favorite things.”
It is also the only column I’ve ever read which so truly and magnificently captures the most destructive force in Canadian history: the tenure of Pierre Elliot Trudeau as public servant.
Mr. Jonas, one of Canada’s unquestionably outstanding writers, provides such a letter perfect case for declaring Pierre Elliot Trudeau’s public life the treason it was, that I couldn’t help myself: I framed it and it stands as perhaps the most accurate piece of journalism ever written on these blessed shores.
In the penultimate paragraph, Mr. Jonas uses a rather brilliant and utterly appropriate quote from the Bard himself to describe Mr. Trudeau’s passing.
The infamous line William Shakespeare provided Mark Antony to speak was occasioned by the death of Caesar. Indeed, in the second scene of the third act of Julius Caesar, Mark Antony speaks:
“The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones…”
As context, Mr. Jonas expertly asserted how Mr. Trudeau was a lover of everything that ultimately hurt Canada: command economics, big government, punishing success–as well, explaining that while he might have achieved in keeping the country together, this was more the inspirational will of the country, than Mr. Trudeau’s efforts at leadership.
In the dozen years since Mr. Trudeau’s passing, gallons of ink have been spilled, usually by uneducated or ill-considered members of the mainstream press, advancing–with the feeblest of logic, how it was Mr. Trudeau that kept the country together.
This is complete, unadulterated rubbish; such total horse manure. Not only was Mr. Trudeau fortunate (weren’t we all?!) that the proponents of Quebec nationalism were so incompetent–and their narrative lacking fluidity, but his was the brinksmanship that could have very well ended what we currently enjoy as the majesty of this land; the spirit that essentially binds us–our Canadiana intact.
Again, years after his long walk in the snow, I recall how Mr. Trudeau played the statesman (or attempted it, anyway) when he disliked Brian Mulroney’s efforts to bring Quebec into the constitution. Perhaps more a result of hubristic envy than principled stance, he got his way and, once more, shamed la belle petulant blackmailer, destroying any process of ending what has plagued Canada since time immemorial: a perpetually flawed, separate–but not separated, Quebec was thwarted, so long as the bastard contingent reigned supreme. You can’t bring into the family someone who will only accept by eating first and only.
It wasn’t an altogether imperfect argument, though the method was unreservedly typical of the Trudeau way: if I can’t deliver it, then Mr. Mulroney shouldn’t be able to either.
In essence, it’s my way or the highway. Although, his efforts, strength of mind and delivery, while not completely helpful, didn’t question the integrity of our unity–instead praying to enhance it.
Last week, when one of Mr. Trudeau’s remaining progenies reminded us of the Trudeau way, I was not really appalled, but quite happy that it didn’t take his now impossible election as Liberal leader, for the country to recognize that the apple truly didn’t fall far from the tree–but much smaller in stature, less luminous, more bitter and infested by maggots.
Pierre Elliot, he is not.
Justin Trudeau, other than carrying his father’s name, hasn’t done a thing to be considered a member of the ‘Honourble’ in parliament. His life reads like what it is: he’s a charter member of the lucky sperm club. Beyond that, nothing.
His comments some days ago (loaded with fiction about Conservatives tearing into abortion and dissolving gay marriage); that the Prime Minister’s Canada is not representative of young Trudeau’s Canada, is something Mr. Harper should wear as a badge of honour.
To which Canada was young Mr. Trudeau referring? The one where parliamentary decorum and decency is absent? The ink isn’t even dry on the Hansard paper, recollecting Mr. Trudeau’s recent description of a sitting Minister as “a piece of shit” because the government of this day refuses to be held hostage by the manifest fraud of global warming doomsterism.
Or perhaps the one that had Mr. Trudeau exceeding anything he could have done to disgrace himself in parliament, by this week contending he would lead a separatist Quebec rather than accept a ‘Harper Canada’.
Wrong on so many levels, if not for the brinksmanship his own father would have considered instantly unnecessary, resolutely indelicate and dangerously amateurish, I must wonder aloud, if young Justin is suffering from an undiagnosed mental disorder.
When the late Jack Layton replaced Gilles Duceppe as favorite son in Quebec–albeit adopted, by promising anything and everything including the moon, stars and Paris Hilton on weekends, it was viewed, by anyone who truly loves this place, that while Mr. Layton was the leader of a decidedly socialist party, his usurping of Mr. Duceppe’s square of political real estate, was a good thing.
Anyone who believes in a united Canada is better than someone who does not. I thought we were all on the same page of the national songbook. Perhaps not.
To young Justin, this is a song he will not sing–he won’t even entertain the tune. It’s the Trudeau method, but a rather perverse and nihilistic, new version. Not only was the insult unfair to Mr. Harper–as the premise of young Justin’s statement is based on phantoms and fantasies, but the notion that either his understanding (that remains painfully undefined) of the country must reign or the current Canada must be torn asunder, ranks as the single most idiotic, narcissistic, convoluted, inane and hurtful statement made about Canadian unity since the days of the infernal Rene Levesque–a sworn enemy of young Justin’s father.
He owes every man, woman and child in this country a real apology–by resigning his seat.
This is how the apple that we thought fell not far from the tree, has rolled so far down the hill and into the deepest darkest gutter, where, apparently, young Justin is quite comfortably at home.
He is so obviously out of his depth as an MP, that I am continually amazed at the number of idiots in the Liberal party, who maintain that with him as leader, the party–and country, would be saved.
From what? Better days? Peace and understanding?
I wonder what they’re thinking now.
The depth of insanity young Mr. Trudeau’s comments delivered will be felt for the entirety of his political career. He has confirmed his lack of qualifications, ethical paucity and mental infirmity.
And that Pierre Elliot’s son, young Justin, is a Trudeau in name only.
Because it’s plain to see: he’s not only inherited his mother’s looks, but her brains too.
Oh Pierre, if only you knew of the real evil you left behind.

Wow, Alex, I thought I was alone when I said many times that Pierre did more to divide canada than all the others put together and it is still ongoing in my opinion? I’m glad you wrote this as I now know I am not out to lunch totally on this as I have been told on many occasions when this subject comes up. Thankk you.
[Translate]
The name Trudeau and cancer should be synonymous.
[Translate]
Does anyone out there know whether Pierre also had a daughter named Lena Trudeau? Who became a top bureaucrat in first Ottawa and then Washington??
[Translate]
Oh for Heaven’s sake…you posted this earlier and I was loathe to get into it with you.
Links like that are the reason people do not always take the otherwise good work done by me, Harv and Norm seriously.
Pierre Trudeau had three sons with Margaret Trudeau (nee Sinclair). Justin, Alexandre (Sasha) and Michel (who most unfortunately died in an avalanche, I believe in 1998 or 1999). I dated one of the Sinclair cousins for years, in fact, I was still dating her when Pierre Trudeau’s one and only daughter Sarah Elisabeth Coyne was born in 1991. Her mother is a law professor and scholar Deborah Coyne, cousin of award-winning journalist Andrew Coyne. It was absolutely no secret that Sarah was Pierre’s daughter, in fact, it was recognized as a joy that Trudeau would satisfy a secret wish–to have a daughter. I believe Sarah Elisabeth was a student at the prestigious Wharton School of Business and must by now have graduated with her economics degree.
The woman to whom you refer is NOT Pierre Trudeau’s daughter and your suggestion previously that she looks like him, is patently absurd to me–as she looks like anyone but him. This is simply a cheap attempt by some internet quack (that’s what the chap who owns the website you posted earlier certainly is) to tie Pierre Trudeau (read: smear him) to a 9/11 truther, which Lena Trudeau appears to be.

Hi Alex:
Great article… great, great, great, great, great!
“Because it’s plain to see: he’s not only inherited his mother’s looks, but her brains too.”
LMFAO!
I peed a little when I read that… very funny!

Let me know where you purchase your panties and I’ll…oh, never mind…

I had an interesting situation with Justin years ago when he was still teaching in Vancouver.
An elderly Japanese gentleman fell on the sidewalk, I was the only one around so I rushed to assist..but I couldn’t communicate.
The only other person walking down the street was Justin, I frantically asked Justin if he spoke Japanese, he responded no, and kept walking, leaving me alone to tend to the senior, that was now unconsciousness.
It was odd that he wouldn’t offer to help..but then again maybe he was showing his true colors that day. That memory has never left me, I was very surprised by the lack of compassion..
All turned out well, an ambulance was called…but I was left scratching my head in disbelief….who walks by a helpless senior?
[Translate]
You would be amazed at the number of sotires like that I’ve heard from people who ha dealings with Trudeau when he was here teaching at West Point Grey Academy.
[Translate]
I’m really not into the “Holier than thou” routine. But I suspect that all the readers here would offer aid to Justin (even if they knew who he was), if he needed it.
THAT is the Canadian way.
[Translate]
Yes, absolutely! I would, as would you.
But would he?
I won’t hold me breath…
[Translate]
Congrads on another great blog. The “shinny pony” as Ezra likes to call him is a product of a ideological group of “higher intelligence” LOL that have lost any credibility and representation of the norm. ie) the people of this country paying way to many taxes and fees while trying to raise their families and survive while the self entitled/righteous and wealth distributiours ply their trade.
Don’t agree with all of Harper’s current agenda but sure as hell don’t agree with taking the ball and going home because I’m losing. But then again is that not what the liberals/ Justin have been trying to instill?
[Translate]
Yes, quite right.
[Translate]
OK Mr. Healthy time for a cigar and Martini after one of my workout routines if you are even close to being ready.
[Translate]
You’re on! But we need to being another reader named David Hadaway. I was suppose to meet him some time ago and couldn’t cause I was dealing with a family matter.
[Translate]
WOW ALEX THANK YOU
when a man calls another member in the house a piece of shit is not doing anything but describing himself.
his pimping his name out to the sepratist movement hoping for any recognition for the liberals is just plain stupid/
the interim leader should censure justin trudeau
is the liberal party like a school fraternity and have to keep him because he is a legacy student,
a united canada is not pefect a fractured canada is even worst
if any body else bahaved as justin trudeau has would the liberals censure?
i think so
silver spoon , a spoiled brat ?
alex tou are right the apple does not fall far from the tree
this apple is just as rotten as his father
[Translate]
More so!

We elected a liberal academic lawyer with no track record than a brief stint as a legislator and let him mess around with our basic institutions to the sycophantic braying of the mainstream media. We didn’t really check out his questionable past.
No other country would ever do that, would they?
Oh, wait !!
Should we tell the Americans?
[Translate]
NOTE TO READERS: SUPERB COMMENT–REQUIRED READING.
[Translate]
I couldn’t agree more, a very astute observation particularly as it relates to the news media. Beyond whatever vetting the candidate’s party does the only other line of defense we have is a free press which failed Canada so badly with Trudeau and the United States with Obama.
Great article Alex, and the line about mom’s brains was priceless.
[Translate]
Thanks pal. I used that one on national television when he first ran in Papineau.
It stuck with so many people.
[Translate]
If we take away academic and lawyer, and focus on BC Premiers … the unelected type … change his to her …
I have an ache in my head …
[Translate]
Your last comment may be even more true than you realize – if it is true what David Hawkins alleges about one Lena Trudeau being Pierre’s illegitimate daughter. She looks a lot like him, is from Quebec, has his name and is about the right age. She worked in Ottawa for a while and now is a very senior bureaucrat in Washington.

Fer chrissake Alex, write something I disagree with at least a little so I can write something witty and vent some frustration on you.
You’ve recently been spot-on with everything, leaving me nothing but enjoyable reading and waiting, with hopeful anticipation, that we’ll have something to clash on with your next piece…
[Translate]
LMAO!
Um, I’ll steal a page from the Premier’s book and try to fail you! LOL!
[Translate]
There are 2 things I liked about Trudeau, his stance against Quebec separatists and his bringing in of the War Measures Act. There are a hundred things I didn’t like about him.
There is only one thing I admired about Rene Levesque – Could he smoke a cigarette, or what? And the fact that he didn’t care if you were standing next to him.
[Translate]
I must have written this before that Trudeau was an arrogant idiot who had thrown Canada into a national debt precipice, damaged Alberta, made a bozo of himself “cutting” pirouettes in front of the Queen (BTW, Canada doesn’t need her either) together with his at that time Minister of Finance Jean Chretien who will probably be distinguished as one of the most corrupt and arrogant politicians in Canadian history. As Prime Minister of Canada he acted as a watchmaker fixing the clock he had earlier happened to screw up beyond any repair. Thank you, Sir Alex, for refreshing memories of those of us who care.
[Translate]
You’re most welcome. And thank you, for your exceptionally astute comment.
One favour, though: please don’t refer to me as ‘Sir Alex’, as last week, another regular reader insisted on beginning a campaign to nominate me for both an Order of BC and writing the Prime Minister to make me Senator.
If this should happen, I will retire from writing and buy a farm somewhere where such insults cannot reach me!
LOL!
[Translate]
Done deal, Sir Alex!
[Translate]
Geezus…
[Translate]
What have you two got against the aristocracy anyway? I’ll take Her Majesty any day, even if she does look like an old hausfrau!
Sir Lawrence.
[Translate]
LMAO!
[Translate]
Alex, if I were you I’d take that Order of BC as long as it was the same one they’d just taken away from ‘someone else’. Now that would be a prize worth keeping.
[Translate]
That’s funny…

Complete agreement. Justin needs some fundamentals.
Amazing the Pierre Elliott Trudeau bees have been stirred. Remember
that time all too well. He damn near economically ruined the country with his reckless spending (the Mother Network had a great documentary about finance spending in Canada, and there were times in the Trudeau era that the budget could have been brought under control but McEearn or who ever it was (could even be Chretien)
that was Finance Minister just kept on spending.
Then there was Six and Five, and the nauseating “Just Society”,
That narrative about the incident with the senior was astonishing. To me, how would I have handeled it? I would have helped the poor Japanese senior and rapid finger playin’ on the cellphone and a terse request would have the BC Ambulance and/or the fire department on its way in minutes.
A “Trudeau Salute” to Justin!
Fuddle-Duddle!
[Translate]
Just sharing a few of my thoughts on everything Trudeau.
Pierre Elliott was the absolutely worst type of socialist there can be. You know, a wealthy socialist that inherited every penny.
Let us never forget how much Pierre Elliott admired Fidel Castro.
In many ways, Pierre Elliott turned Canada into a basket case. Basically Canada became a little dumber with Pierre Elliott at the helm.
Justin, let’s get serious. Justin is just another mental midget that sees himself as an intellectual giant.
It just amazes me how many in the Liberal party see Justin as the type of leader that will bring the Liberals back to their status as Canada’s “natural governing party”. I suppose they are hoping that Justin will bring some of Pierre Elliott’s political magic back to the Liberal party. Kind of ironic given that many Liberals see themselves as a progressive choice. Very progressive of the Liberals to reach back 45 years. Actually now that I think of it, didn’t the Liberals also try to brand Iggy as the new Trudeau at one time.
[Translate]
Precisely. Just what were they branding?
And what was really the brand?
Trudeau rode around Westmount on his motorcycle–wearing a Nazi helmet.
He was insane.
Justin wore the Occupy look while all the unwashed were whining. Same kind of exploits. Same kind of offensive drivel.
The Trudeaus should be ashamed.
[Translate]
the liberals may be hopihg to ride another wave of trudeaumania
thank god the canadian people are more politically astute. than to hop on that band wagon again.
the trudeau years did more damage eto this country then good
jf the liberals think justin is the second comming,
then they deserve to be a have not party ,
[Translate]
I thik the federal Liberals should be ashamed.
Why they seem to go ga-ga over Justin Trudeau as if he is some political equivalent to Justin Bieber(or much much earlier, Rene Simard from Quebec) is beyond comprehension.
They’ll never get past Outremont if they go that route, and for the sake of Canada, that would be good.
But I never went for that “Canada’s natural governing party” crap. It’s a statement of aloofness aristrocracy and arrogance.
[Translate]
Correct, correct and correct again.
[Translate]
I thought I was the only one that thought Justin’s beard/goatee and eyebrows had that familiar Occupy look…. LOL.
[Translate]
No, I’m told by one of his friends that he did it intentionally. That’s the kind of ass he is.
[Translate]
I think when the end neared, that he regretted a lot of what he had said and done, I think we all will, but the fact that he let that murderer dandle his children and put his arm around his young wife’s waist, must have given him some anguish. At least, I hope that’s the way he felt.
[Translate]
Actually I think this look gives him a Three Musketeers look.
Funny that he is trying to position himself with the Occupy movement. Wouldn’t he be part of the 1% given all the money his grandfather earned?
[Translate]
I know, he’s just an ass. His wedding was the kind of opulence that you would expect from a royal fete.
Go no further than this: He wore a GOLD tuxedo! And he’s a supporter of Occupy! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
[Translate]
Strange legacies, indeed…
Though, say what you will about Pierre, OldChap…
No one else on the national ‘stage’ would either have dared or could probably, at the time, have pulled off, “Just watch me…”
More than likely an accident of historical contingency (i.e. he was there and in a position to act)… but I sometimes wonder.
“”Vive le Québec libre !”" – Charles de Gaulle, Montreal 1967.07.24
[Translate]
True enough.
Even Satan started on the right side….
[Translate]
Granted, Pierre Elliott Trudeau was arguably one of the most destructive leaders Canada has known.
Jean Cretien was a close second.
Herr Steven Harper will make the two above look like armatures when it comes to screwing over Canada as per his newly introduced bill C30 re internet surveillance.
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said in Parliament that those Canadians who did not agree with this invasion of our personal rights were “child pornographers”, this, after which he admitted that he had not read and fully understood the damn thing.
Idiots like Justin Trudeau are the least of our worries in Canada.
CGHZD
[Translate]
It helps to get the story straight.
The bill is being amended to reflect reality. Toews is up for a demotion next shiffle–unquestionably.
And how do you compare Harper with the others when Trudeau had a tenure that spanned three decades and Chretien ruled over the single greatest corruption scandal in Canadian history?
It helps to think these things through before we write…
[Translate]
Harper, Bill C-30 notwithstanding, is trying to make another gravely mistake; build a crude oil pipeline to either Texas of Prince Rupert. It’s known without any doubt that any, even the “sweetest” crude is highly corrosive and such a pipeline would be an ecological time-bomb. Another fallout would be killing of a huge part of the Canadian oil refining industry adding value to our oil and creating well-paid jobs for Canadians. The US is the world-largest exporter of gasoline and other petroleum-based products. Final products can be easily shipped by rail. Why shouldn’t Canada walk in its southern neighbour’s footsteps?
[Translate]
I love it when you wax rhetorical! LOL!
[Translate]
And why won’t MSM do this?
[Translate]
I know MSM and he’s been around for awhile. He’s most appreciative of my work.
It’s not his style, let’s just leave it at that.
[Translate]
Well recalll that PET was elected 4 times with 3 majorities so in the name of balance let’s briefly consider why a few sane people might have respected him enough to cast the odd Liberal ballot. I think for many there was an authenticity and originality to the guy that we just do not see anymore with politicians. For example, immediately before the ‘Just watch me’ quote Trudeau had been debating that reporter one-on-one for a good 5 or 6 minutes in a totally unscripted situation….the one quote got the attention but do we have many politicians even capable of doing that anymore ? And even if they were, how many spinmasters are they surrounded by to prevent something like that from happening ? I think people do yearn for leaders who say what they mean and mean what they say, whether you agree with them or not. I know Trudeau was hated by many of you, then and now, and partly that’s because you got his message and disagreed with it. That’s your right and that’s democracy. At least you had some clarity.
I tend to agree that on the economy unfortunately he never did much to challenge the status quo there but let’s recall what that was. Many members of the generations that grew up in the Depression and WWII came to believe strongly in the use of the government, as well as international organizations, to address our problems.of economic inequality and war. They were well-intentioned people, who in many cases had suffered greatly and sacrificed much. Their creations however eventually seem to have taken on a life of their own, and subsequent generations have really failed to understand, among other things, that government programs were were always intended to be funded on a sustainable, manageable basis. Of course it’s easy with the benefit of hindsight to say that these folks were just stupid and/or naive.
In terms of Justin, it does all just seem insincere and contrived. I agree with you that he is not his old man and was probably unwise to try to be.
[Translate]
You should never judge majorities or consecutive numbers of electoral wins in the modern era, because those happened absolutely as a result of a decimated opposition–and it wasn’t because of anything a stronger govt did.
When Trudeau won those victories the Tories were led by a Bob Stanfield that was really not much of a leader. And Joe Clark was a wet noodle too.
In fairness… LOL!
[Translate]
Also don’t forget much of those majority wins were the result of the huge seat counts in Quebec and Ontario. Trudeau other than Lloyd The Axe and afew others, received very low support west of Thunder Bay and east of Gaspe. Trudeau’s wins were hardly nationwide in scope compared to the Conservatives of lately and the NDP.
In fact Trudeau was ignorant to Western Canada and to a lesser but still pronounced ignorance to The Maritimes.
His idiotic National Energy Program and the publicly owned PetroCanada was legendary and still is. As was Six And Five.
plus Stanfield was better at making Tighty Whities than he was writing White Papers.
As for “Mr. Joe McTeer” he was a wet noodle. Complete agreement there.
[Translate]
Correct. In the 1980, election where Trudeau came back from the ’79 defeat, he didn’t elect a single MP west of Manitoba.
[Translate]
You said “And Joe Clark was a wet noodle too”
—————————————–
Joe who? you mean Joe McTeer don’t you….
[Translate]
LOL!
[Translate]
Seconded! Well, Mr. Underwear really didn’t get much of a chance, and the kick-off picture killed him. As for Clark (and I voted for him) he had probably the best headline ever “Joe Clark, That’s Who!”, but he should have been running for the Liberals. Who Knew?
[Translate]
BZ, Alex! Full agreement about Spawn of Truedope!

Alex. I’m just wondering if you could scan the George Jonas article that you have framed and post it? I’m curious…………..

Sure.

Alex,
Years ago John Turner referred to “question period” in the house as “Bullshit Theatre”.
After Mr. Trudeau’s performance last week, it appears that it’s been moved out into the hallway….
John
[Translate]
No kidding! Total agreement!
[Translate]
The good news about this idiot spouting off like this is that he probably will never be considered as leadership material and any party who would be nuts enough to elect him as leader would be decimated.

Then There Is The Mr, White Way,
Thanks Alex, YOU ARE the Real Deal.
I Am Not Funny. All The Time.
[Translate]
This could be one of your best big guy. It’s too bad most of us couldn’t get anything like this to our editors. Why don’t you start doing pieces for different papers like your idol hitch did? Your voice is definitely missed in newsprint Alex.
[Translate]
That’s very kind but budgets are tighter now than they were in the fall 2009 when I left 24 hours. As you can see, that paper has slid into oblivion and other papers aren’t even covering pertinent topics, instead concentrating on fluff.
I like my perch and my BC readership. frankly, has grown beyond that of many mainstream venues online. So, I lead, where I used to be off the radar. And all in a few years. Not bad I say…but I’m open to suggestions.
[Translate]
Yes, Justin is dumb, narcissistic, histrionic and spiteful — but aside from that I suspect he truly has a couple of screws loose. He didn’t just inherit his mother’s intelligence; he appears to have inherited her mental instability as well. We’re likely watching a train wreck with many more cars to derail.
[Translate]
Then there is Sasha. If you saw the documentary he did on the fall of Bagdad you would be proud to be Canadian. He was embedded with an Iraqi family for the whole thing. Wandered around getting footage of the blown up hospitals and other government buildings and then filmed one building with US soldiers surrounding it, guarding their prize. Guess what building… the ministry of oil. It was then the Americans were shown for the real reason Iraq was invaded. Great work by Sasha. So at least one of his sons is doing the world some good. Exposing the truth for all to see.
[Translate]
Actually, I did see it but in the context of this post I did, I felt it would be adding insult to injury to show what a first class guy Sasha appears to be as opposed to his left wingnut brother.
Justin Trudeau is a drama queen with a penis.
[Translate]
I’m no more of a fan of the son than I was of the father.
Having said that, the mininster involved was being called a piece of shit because he denied the opposition environment critic accreditation at a conference on the environment (which are normally attended by the minister and the opposition critic), then upon his return answered a question with a statement along the lines of:
“had the honorable member attended that conference, she would know that…”
Totally deserves to be called that, in my opinion.
The conservatives seem to be suffering from “we have fundamentally changed the face of Canadian politics”, a delusion akin to the liberal “we are the natural governing party” we endured for decades…
[Translate]
There is no excuse for that kind of language in the House of Commons. Not now, not ever.
I do not disagree that the Conservatives seem to want to have their leader sitting in Stornoway–the way they’re going about things lately, but the language young Ttudeau used was absolutely unacceptable in the people’s house.
Would you let him speak like that in your home?
[Translate]
As a matter of fact – yes, I would… but I recognize that not everyone sees it that way.
Yes, a certain amount of decorum is necessary if the whole thing is not to degenerate into a shouting match, but there is also a need for forceful expression of the outrage that is an accurate representation of the mood of much of the electorate. Unfortunately, the whole point is probably moot, since question period has become little more than bad performance art, anyway…
The people’s house? Nah… “the people” aren’t really welcome there!
[Translate]
Fair enough, I can’t argue with your latter points, as I completely agree with you there.
[Translate]
The Trudeau phenomena is an interesting one and implicit in your political analysis is the overriding question: “why did so many people drink the kool aid when Trudeau clearly didn’t have the best interests of the country at heart?” But I sometimes wonder if the average voter is able to grasp the issues the way you do, or George Jonas. On Election Day, when that preverbial camera swings from the political pundits to the average Joe on the street, there is often this sense of banality to the way he responds to questions regarding his choice of candidate. It’s more than not about the persona; the character. And, Trudeau was a character. In a country where so many people defer to authority, there was this vicarious relishing of Trudeau’s perceived disdain for protocol and pomposity and his often subversive behavior, which you reflect on in your post. He was perceived by many as a statesman who wasn’t going to roll over and spout vacuous hot air the way Joe Clarke did. But I would argue that, in the end, those voters who loved, and still love, Trudeaumania, were celebrating a leader who had personality. I agree, Justin pales in comparison to his father, but it may be that he is trying to capitalize on playing up those characteristics that defined Trudeaumania. Is Justin wet behind the ears and completely lacking in political experience. Absolutely. Will it matter to many of those “Trudeaumania” followers. Probably not.

Reading this reminds me of others who say they believe or do not believe in global warming, while I am not a scientist I am from Northern B.C. and when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s the winters used to be dam cold and now they are quite warm so why is this? I work in the tar sands and whether you believe in global warming or not you cannot comment on the pollution until you have actually experienced it and then you will be a believer.
All the industry and media rhetoric is simply that or if you will a bunch of lies, I have seen pollution, spent the last 38 years working in pulp mills refineries and gas plants, anyone who hasn’t worked in these places has no right to an opinion as they are clueless to what is really going on unless they happen to be in the same air or watershed and feeling the effects directly, so how do the arm chair critics who are not scientists really know if global warming is real or not?
If you have spent your life in Vancouver how do you really know if we are affecting our planet and threatening the lives of future generations? If you were to live in Northern B.C. as long as my family has then you would know how significantly the weather changes really are but again it is something you really have to experience, I have read the rhetoric on the oil sponsored web sites like levants and frankly none of them are experts at anything but spin and industry bullshit but the people who are concerned about global warming are usually scientists and experts, go figure. I am beginning to suspect that most of the people opposed to global warming are more concerned about their pocket books then the well being of our children and future generations.
If you really want to know the effects of the tar sands on our environment spend a year working in one of the plants and see how it affects your health, how many different gases you inhale in a single day, how well your body handles H2S, CO, SO2 and the many rogue gases that you might inhale in a single day, go to Suncor after 11pm and see for yourself the burnoff at night, you can see and hear it for miles when they crank up the flare stacks, I know this because I have worked there many many times and almost every time I go there I get sick and I have been hospitalized on more then one occasion by being gassed! Syncrude is no better and I will never go back to CNRL!

This is complete drivel.
(1) Your experience is YOUR experience. Therefore, it doesn’t negate the FACT we are experiencing a natural cycle. The winters will become cold again as they were in the 50s and 60s.
(2) So, unless the scientists who argue that global warming alarmism is hooey experience the pollution, their objections to doomsterism are bunk? What logic and reasoning class did you take?
(3) So, unless you work in mill refineries you have no right to an opinion? Um, you’re not from Russia or Iran, are you?
(4) Actually, those of us who are climate change skeptics are so, precisely BECAUSE of the high cost of greening everything and pretending we are in peril. Where are the dire results predicted ten years ago? Or even five years ago? Or one year ago? Nowhere. They never materialized. In fact, we’re in a cooling phase the last decade or so.
It sounds to me as if you might still be suffering from rogue gas…
