EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS: Vancouver Police Department ‘Porngate’…
The rumblings in the blue corridor on Cambie are getting progressively louder–and for good reason.
Remember, if you will, when some internal Stanley Cup riot documents were leaked to radio station CKNW. Specifically, the document(s) confirming the information which you read on this blog days earlier: the number of police on the ground, battalion preparedness, etc.
Well, an internal investigation (read: an effort to find the poor chap that exercised such principles) showed some rather revealing documents when a forensic review of a series of computers yielded thousands of files containing hardcore pornographic material.
VPD members voluntarily and formally sign off, guaranteeing that they will not surf the net inappropriately and commit to such activities–including the dissemination of porn between colleagues, so the shock was double, when it was discovered that there were also some senior officers involved.
There may be as many as a dozen to two dozen officers principally involved in the internal distribution of said material and many more recipients that forwarded the material to colleagues and some friends.
When the details are finally made public, this will be another black eye to a force loaded with good people, but led by a Chief who should have been fired for the lies he told the public, post-riots and through the review process.
Expect to hear more details soon. I will keep you posted on anything more I can reveal. I have not included the names of officers for legal reasons (although, you can bet their punishment will range from the expected demotions to docked pay).
Stay tuned…and expect the usual denials and/or spin from VPD spokesperson Jana McGuiness and others…as always, you’ll get the real story, right here!

NOTE: Tomorrow, we’ll talk about Justin Trudeau, the narcissistic idiot, who is a disgrace and doesn’t deserve to be a member of Canadian parliament.
Be well.

To Serve, Protect, and Fornicate?
Makes one wonder how many blows (no pun intended) this department can take?
Like you said AGT, will be interesting to see the spin machine in action.
I feel sorry for the officers that truly care and act accordingly; morale must be in the crapper……
[Translate]
And that’s precisely how I feel. There are so many great cops with the VPD, many of whom read and a few that comment, here.
They deserve our respect.
And then, there’s their Chief…and some of his minions…
[Translate]
alex, this is no surprise,
we need to get back to a system that if a police officer is convicted of a crimminal offence that they are fired
we also need vpd to have diciplinary action up to and including termination.
the problem is most unoinized collective agreements have time limits that negetive reports stay on file
we need to eliminate the automatic removal of negetive reports.
thus senior mangement can get rid of the very few bad apples.
the vast majority of police officers are ethical and hard working
they are as frustrated as we are
[Translate]
If we did this at work, we’d be fired.
[Translate]
Hi Alex,
I’ve seen collective agreements that specifically state that this sort of activity is strictly prohibited – “inappropriate use of internet technology.”
If it’s a firing offence, then it’s a firing offence.
If someone is stupid enough to view this stuff at work and they’re caught and fired then that’s it, unless the termination is automatically sent to arbtration or the person accused decides to bail and save himself and others the embarrassment.
Everyone, regardless of charge or accusation has the right to representation and the right to due process. A good union will insure this.
Contrary to some beliefs, that’s not a bad thing.
John
[Translate]
Gee,
You mean the Police are idiotic about surfing the net ?Like the rest of the world…..?( ya cant control what people send you in an email but…..)
The fact that senior officers were stupid enough to participate in forwarding on porn just speaks volumes about the 1970′s mentality at Main and Powell( or is that Cambie and 4th?)
Either way, time for some changes
[Translate]
Correct. The infraction is hardly newsworthy. It’s the players and how the cops, whose signatures are supposed to mean something, ended up in such a mess that’s noteworthy.
[Translate]
Big deal Alex!
[Translate]
Perhaps to you. But it’s news worthy.
[Translate]
It goes to show the general decline in morals in the country as a whole. This pollutes the general pool from which our police, lawyers, doctors, etc. etc, are chosen. Basic moral values have fallen and people who attempt to live by those values, once the norm, are ridiculed as being old fashioned, pious and intolerant of other lifestyles – and we’re all paying for that attitude.
[Translate]
Oh, geezus, be serious.
The infraction is that it was at work. I don’t have a problem with them exchanging those types of images from home computers. If it doesn’t involve kids or barnyard animals, do whatever floats your boat…
You need to loosen up a little–A LOT!
[Translate]
I wish you hadn’t mentioned barnyard animals, it made me think of Constance Barnes blubbering about the Stanley Park goats and it’s too early for a stiff drink – at least for me!
[Translate]
Hilarious. Yes, my old pal Connie really looked perturbed on that one. Too funny. What did they expect?
[Translate]
What did they expect?
Why “Animal Heaven” of course!
Just like on the AWAKE religious brochures. You know, people, deer, wolves, birds, all happy and smiling in “heaven” .
No violence or fear or carnivorous lust, just endless eternity with happy smiling people and sheep and goats………..
[Translate]
LOL! I shouldn’t laugh, but that’s too funny.
[Translate]
After I wrote to the members of the Park Board flopposition, castigating them for their change of stance and predicting exactly this result, the saintly Loretta Woodcock wrote back telling me the priority was now to keep the family groups together after disposal. I guess you could say they succeeded, in the sense they all ended up on the same shelf in the discount dogfood department!
[Translate]
Hi david hadaway,
Nice to see you blogging I’ve missed you
I’m very disappointed with what happened to the animals from the petting zoo..very sad.
This is what happens when things are rushed, and not enough due diligence.
[Translate]
Vision are dopes. They should have kept it open, if not for any other reason, but for the kids with challenges that relied on that experience as part of their therapy.
For shame. Otherwise, I have a great recipe for grilled lamb…just kidding, JOKE! JOKE!
[Translate]
Couldn’t agree more Alex – “Vision are dopes. They should have kept it open, if not for any other reason, but for the kids with challenges that relied on that experience as part of their therapy.”
[Translate]
Yeah, it always impressed me as something that mattered. Oh well, thanks to Suzanne and one of the worst run NPA campaigns ever, Vision will reign supreme for another three years.
George and Elizabeth are sounding off much and the NPA morons that incredibly continue to allow Mike Klassen any role at all, are simply burying any hope the NPA can recover. Sad but true. Good candidates like you didn’t make it. Those are the results of bad planning and the petting zoo was just a very small part of what could have been an issue where the good guys could have stepped in. Instead, Vision destroyed an otherwise great attraction.
[Translate]
Thank you, I’ve been very busy and hardly had time to read blogs never mind comment. Disappointed isn’t a strong enough word for this event, disgust would be better. It is a bit off topic, perhaps, except in the sense of being yet another example of failure to live up to appropriate standards by those entrusted with responsibility, and evasion as their first tactic when exposed.
You mention due diligence. On this I note Aaron Jasper’s claims and those of the humble employees who looked after the animals are entirely contradictory, in other words one or other must be lying. Only one, however, has an evident motive.
We can’t expect everyone in public service to be perfect but I don’t think things have been so bad in my lifetime.
[Translate]
This kinda reminds me of the fire dept’s “Kitty” lines from what, fifteen years ago now?
Anyways, people think they can get away with this because they think nobody is watching…. but they forget that you leave an electronic trail when you’re doing stupid shit on the Interwebs….. or even if you’re just wasting time on Facebook.
[Translate]
If you’re at home, do what you want, provided it doesn’t involve a child or barn yard animal. But at work? That’s just stupidity.
[Translate]
neither does Vic Toews … who has championed a bill to give the government the power to collect information about the digital services Canadians use without first obtaining a warrant from a judge.
[Translate]
I find that most upsetting. It’s an awful piece of legislation. And against the backdrop of the gun registry. Just stupid.
[Translate]
That Bill is all about making Canadians too afraid to blow a whistle on the government/corporations in cyberspace. They’ve got the MainStream Media all sewed up, but unfortunately for them too many people realize that the MSM today is a pathetic, hollow joke — for the truth, you go to (certain!) blogs. So, make people afraid to post anti-government comments on their blogs.
[Translate]
So true…
[Translate]
Or else, instead of panicking we can all just wait to see what occurs during parliamentary debate on the matter. Ezra Levant had a very interesting interview with Vic Toews on SunMedia, and we get the impression that it may not be as frightening as was first thought. The fact that present gun legislation gives police the right to enter your domicile and seize anything they want, and all without warrant is far, far more worrisome. Where were all you nervous Nellies then? O I see, as long as your own ox ain’t getting gored …?
[Translate]
That’s bullshit. I saw the interview to which you refer. Vic Toews should have been canned from Cabinet for his comments. And the initiative he was pushing was absolutely foolish. On the gun matter, it’s quite different. If someone, for example, is charged with domestic violence, he SHOULD have his home entered and his guns seized until the matter can be sorted out.
[Translate]
cod-swaddle, I say! The police may enter your domicile at any time and for any reason w/o warrant and seize anything, pertinent or no. Everyone was swooning when Trudeau said the government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation; well, that’s where I keep my guns. Anyone found on my property at night, will be found there in the morning! And why is it you just naturally say, “..HE should have HIS home entered and HIS guns seized …”? As I said earlier any or no reason to enter your premises.
[Translate]
1) The police cannot enter your home and confiscate anything without reasonable grounds for search and seizure. And then, there must be a subpoena.
2) You’re taking my comments out of context. If the person was a known nutter; had hammered his wife into the wall or reduced his child to thin paste, yes, the cops should be able to enter his premises and remove his guns. In that case, they should be able to search his home for any guns.
3) In the scenario you describe above, you’d be charged with murder. You cannot shoot someone unless he’s armed, has forced his way into “an entry” of your home and have warned him/called out prior to firing.
[Translate]
What a bunch of “pigs”!
[Translate]
Eh! I doubt very much it’ll gather much steam in the press (actually that’s kind of funny; steam, press). Porn surfing seems so de rigueur these days. It’s better known amongst the boys as ‘undercover work’! Get it? Haha! And no, that isn’t spackle on the squad room ceiling.
Anyway Alex, lay off ol’ Jana, she’s the messenger, not the writer. I’m just saying…..
[Translate]
Oh, I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Wait for the details.
As for Cst. McGuiness, I’m quite tired of breaking news on the VPD and having her deny my stories, only to need confirm them five days later. She’s an apologist for a useless Chief.
[Translate]
http://www.theprovince.com/news/Cops+watched+porn+skipped+work+instead+investigating+missing+women+Galliford/5752470/story.html
[Translate]
Yes, clearly it’s an issue in the RCMP as well.
Galliford should be given the key to the city, the Order of BC and Sainted. The souls of those murdered girls are a little lighter because Galliford honoured them with her testimony.
[Translate]
That said, I am getting tired of indignant women (most of them unemployed) who go marching through the streets demanding justice. There are more missing men than women, and no one seems to give a damn. These women might want to teach their daughters that whoring themselves on the streets is extremely dangerous and stupid and immoral. That hitch-hiking alone on highways at night is the same, and that the use of illegal substances can only lead to an early and sad demise. Also, as SunMedia has exposed, when the state broadcaster uses tax dollars to show pornography on the internet, what are we telling our youngsters?
[Translate]
Oh, for Christ’s sake Larry, get out of the 17 Century…
1) It’s offensive to suggest women asking for justice and protection from predators are being indignant. They’re being real.
2) The vast majority of girls who take to the streets don;t have a life long dream of being whores. They are downtrodden and exceedingly disadvantaged, so the easy road is afforded them and some take it. It’s a tough life. When I counseled on the DTES, I met many of them. It’s too sad to even think about. But we need to change our attitudes as civilized people and recognize there’s a problem.
3) Hitch-hiking and doing drugs is akin to prostitution? Um, okay…scotch in the corn flakes this morning?!
4) Pornography isn’t the issue here for me, not anywhere as much as the fact the VPD hid this from the public for months. Not good. Everybody I know watches some sort of porn. You should try it some time. It might loosen you up a little.
Sounds like you need a good bottle and a nice, long, meaningful, four-hour relationship….
[Translate]
I stand by my contentions, cheese-cake is one thing, but when I worked in autobody we were forbidden to hang those kind of calenders, lest we insult the feminist mindset. But it is okay to have/sell beefcake shots of firefighters, so long as it didn’t hurt the feelings of these little darlings!
Spare me your gauche appraisals of what you consider to be fine; if they were pictures of your 19 year old daughter you might look at the whole business differently. I trust you and your wife would bring her up to have some old-fashioned morals in this context.
[Translate]
Firstly, good parenting doesn’t produce girls like that. In the case of the girls you were castigating, they had NO parenting.
Secondly, since when are level-headedness and decency old-fashioned virtues? There are lots of people with great daughters that give them reasonable advice without pushing them to wear a habit.
Lastly, I cannot believe that you weren’t allowed to hang nudies in an autobody! Every single last one I’ve ever been to all had such stellar artwork!
[Translate]
The guys at my shop are allowed to hang nudies all they want, provided the customers don’t see it. I don’t care. I grew up in the automotive industry and don’t even notice the nudies anymore, haven’t for years.
The boys rewarded my thick skin by getting me a man-ass calendar for the back counter (again, where customers can’t see it). Every auto shop has the nudie girls, and if someone gets offended they either (a) shouldn’t be working in the industry in the first place or (b) wandered somewhere where they shouldn’t be, saw nudies and whined.
[Translate]
OH, Larry you are wrong on this one.
I can imagine there are a few indignant fathers who lost daughters to the street and to men who have no regard for women. The women they spend a few minutes in the back of their cars (moving the car seat to make room) and their children’s mothers.
These people have good reason to be indignant.
[Translate]
The timing of this is most upsetting, considering what is being exposed at the missing women inquiry…most inappropriate.
[Translate]
GREAT point. I couldn’t agree more.
I think there is a systemic problem with the cops though: we put unreasonable pressure on them–without enough resources or support (ahem, Dr. Ballem) and give them Chiefs like Chu (ahem, Sam Sullivan and Gregor Robertson) and when they screw up we wonder ‘why’. It’s quite ridiculous.
[Translate]
True enough, but in this case I have to disagree.
They take that oath, put that uniform on, and therefore should and are held to a higher standard than Joe Q Public.
No one said being a Cop was/is easy, but to say they are under pressure in this case and therefore it is an excuse for screw ups they commit is wrong IMHO (esp. in this case, the watching of porn at work, etc.).
Yes they are human like the rest of us, but they must accept they will be judged to a higer standard.
Otherwise, we would just have another gang in our fair city, albeit, the biggest one with the most guns.
[Translate]
Off topic, but I miss the side bar….where is it?
[Translate]
Oh for God’s sake…
[Translate]
I snorted coffee when I read this one. Thanks for ditching the sidebar. I can read the page on my iPhone again.
[Translate]
Yes, I just figure that if people want to tweet and facebook my stories, they can do so and I don’t need to know what is out there. This is public forum, after all. And in the news sidebar it catalogued how many people liked it etc. I think that’s like shoving your trophy case at readers. I was never comfortable with it, but tried it for awhile.
I lost ONE reader because of it.
[Translate]
What unreasonable pressure are you talking about Alex??
Please don’t watch porn on your computers while at work??
If we have reached a point where we make excuses for this and someone of your intelligence looks for excuses for them, we are indeed past the point of hope.
Don
[Translate]
Don, be serious please. Images of people having sex are exchanged by folks all the time. Get a life.
The issue is it was done at work and on taxpayer time–that’s different.
And they are usually under TREMENDOUS pressure. The VPD are a good force–but led by an idiot.
[Translate]
So this is what those so called ” 10,000 searches a day ” of the gun registry really were. Clever way to disguise them. Sickening to say the least.
[Translate]
LMAO! Too funny! Good one!
[Translate]
Hilarious Gary, because, despite what Alex may contend on his 11:42 comment, I am not some tight-ass moralist, but my reply to his, is only that it is absolutely predictable, and is becoming more and more tiresome! Lighten up Alex, does everyone have to agree with absolutely everything you conjecture; are we not here to toss it back and forth in search of the truth?
[Translate]
Larry, it’s you that needs to lighten up. Your previous comment sounded like it came from the conduct book in a convent. I couldn’t care less whether people agree with my opinion or don’t–I’ve proved that. Just because I jabbed you for sounding like a Catholic priest. Gimme a break.
[Translate]
So Alex you think it is just me and Catholic priests who think this way. If you had any idea about religion, you’d know that it is the Protestant faiths that are the sexual prudes, far more so than Catholicism which is pretty aware of man’s sinful nature and the certainty of constant relapse. It is pretty primary knowledge really! Truth is Alex that you are in the minority if you believe that there is not a serious diminution of morality in all facets of humanity, including a capacity to lie that is an era unmatched in history. There is more violence in the name of religious difference than ever before in history, most done by atheists against various and all religious. On the matter of concupiscence and its effect on the media, and not just the internet, which apparently is rife with same, you might want to check out SunMedia on the CBC’s association with pornographic sites paid for by the taxpayer in their annual $1.1 billion subsidy.
Also, on the matter of Catholic clergy and women religious, I suppose you wouldn’t be aware (or likely care) that between 1936 and 1939, 6,832 Spanish clerics were murdered by the so-called republicans. I don’t think they feel the need for your understanding of what morality is all about or whether or not you feel them fit to comment on it. No doubt you enjoyed the filthy assault on the Catholic faith at he recent Grammy Awards. I would go on but this whole subject depresses and bores me to tears.
[Translate]
The Protestant faith isn’t all up in their flock’s arses about birth control so that gets you a big ol’ FAIL, Larry.
[Translate]
The greatest threat to chastity, is the weakness of the mind. – Tacitus
[Translate]
Chastity?
How ’bout just the titties part?
[Translate]
Now we know you don’t like dictionary definitions Alex, but a woman with 10 children can be chaste. ‘Look it up’ I always say. How ’bout just the Chas part, like Cher’s onetime daughter?
But seriously, the matter of “contraception”, I mean the artificial kind, you should know that it is the single most destructive phenomenon to the “Christian” concept of family. Firstly, it prevents families from forming at all, in many cases. Secondly, families that aren’t child-centered are doomed to failure (in most cases) – High divorce rates due to unfaithfulness, sexual licence, etc. which leads to learning and social failure in the children that do survive. And goodness Alex, do you not read Mark Steyn? The west, yes, what was once known as Christendom, is not replacing itself, and is going the way of the dodo! While other faiths, mostly in Asia, are reproducing at an alarming rate (well, alarming for Europe and North America.)
[Translate]
Right, which is all the more reason to be more liberal with titties…
[Translate]
Hopefully others will learn from this and know that their employer most likely logs all internet activity etc. Of course they wouldn’t access it though without a valid reason.

[Translate]
And the RCMP?with it’s new leader?
[Translate]
What about them?
[Translate]
Every week, we seem to be treated to police “antics” RCMP, VPD or otherwise. It really makes one wonder about giving these porn crazy police more power to snoop through our personal information contained in our internets and servers.
[Translate]
What else is new?!?! When the pool of applicants are nothing more than jobless and poorly educated morons who watch too much tv and are pampered and sheltered spoiled brats of former hippie parents what you expect from the employed in blue. Jokingly and scaramingly trying to find out if blue means police or blue means the dirty films. Heh Eh heh.
[Translate]
Dear Mr. Dhesi:
In the future, please do not ever use the name of a VPD officer like you did.
I have discovered that the officer you identified is an HONOURABLE member of the force.
I don’t know how it slipped through without my notice, but it did and it was wrong. I apologize to the officer you identified.
I’ve checked with a few friends who are members and they have all identified him as a first rate cop.
Your opinions are most welcome. Unsubstantiated rumors and innuendo are not.
Thank you.
[Translate]
I apologize to the person involved. I take back the words
[Translate]
Thank you. You’re a gentleman.
[Translate]
Another non-story. So a bunch of guys shared some porn at work. Big deal.
[Translate]
Complete nonsense. You mean it’s okay for the police to be doing this while the taxpayer’s dollar is paying for them to do police work?
Sure thing, Ian.
[Translate]
There are lots of things they do in their spare (paid) time that don’t involve traditional police work (drinking coffee and eating donuts come to mind). The only thing that makes this issue different and interesting, to those that seem to care, is the fact there are penises and vaginas involved. Yes, it’s ok. Not optimal but ok. Cops are under an incredible amount of scrutiny. They are not perfect. What Alex? Never looked at porn on the company dime in your life?
I want it to be ok for them to do things that, in the overall scheme of things, don’t really matter. Using the company email for personal messages and images don’t really matter. Next….
[Translate]
This must rank as one of the stupidest arguments I’ve ever heard.
1) No, I’ve never looked at porn at work–ever. Period.
2) These are cops, who are supposed to held to a higher standard.
3) This wasn’t your buddy sending you a ‘Happy Nipple’ calendar or a blowjob powerpoint a few times per month. We’re talking thousands and thousands of files. That’s a problem for me and it’s a problem for many people.
4) Against the backdrop of the missing women’s inquiry and accusations of pervasive sexism, it’s hugely significant. I guess you don’t care about them? Nice.
5) You seem awfully worked up about this whole matter considering you believe it’s a non-issue.
So why are you bothering to come here? Most of us get that it’s an ethical issue–an exceedingly serious ethical lapse. You have a lesser standard, clearly. Good for you.
[Translate]
LOL Alex: After the last trashing I got from you regarding pot smoking, I wonder myself why I come here. However my dirty little secret is I’m entertained by you and occasionally I agree with you… that’s why.
I’m sorry you’ve never smoked dope and that you’re so worked up over the work porn issue. You should try them sometime, they may help calm you down.
[Translate]
That you have misrepresented my concerns–valid as they remain, isn’t terribly surprising.
This isn’t a porn-at-work issue. It’s about taking the people with whom we place our most solemn trust and demanding only that they respect that trust with a modicum of decorum and dignity.
I’ve viewed lots of porn thanks. But I’m not a cop and have never done so at the workplace of an employer. Ever.
On the other hand your arguments are proof that you inhale–and further, why I’m proud never to have been stupid enough to smoke or do drugs.
But you’re so far along, no point in stopping now.
