How Premier Christy Clark Treats Her Friends–and Enemies: She Must Have Once Been a Bus Driver…’Campaign Nasty’ About to Commence

244

In 1999, when the BC Liberals were looking for a key regional organizer, who would act as a general of all regional organizers, then BC Liberal boss Kelly Reichert (of BC Rail fame) had his eye on several of his own loyalists.

Those were the days Gordon Campbell’s entry with an iron fist was greeted with magnificent fanfare, after the confused, as much as he was confusing, wet noodle that was Gordon Wilson. Reichert, never far from his shoe-shine box, was busy polishing the leather for Campbell at every opportunity; it was like the second coming for him.

From a short list of loyalists, they were going to pick a new regional ‘super-boss’ whose organizational skill would become infectious and help build the party.

Everyone was ready! Everyone was excited! Everyone was thrilled!

Except Christy Clark.

Far from being content that a perceived Tory had become leader (Campbell is actually a classic Neo-Liberal), Clark’s design on becoming Premier herself would then have to be shelved. She would have to play second fiddle to a handsome, young man from Vancouver, who did an admirable job as mayor and that, if he played his cards right, would be premier for a very long time.

So, Clark, as the master manipulator convinced Campbell that she knew the provincial political landscape better than anyone. Clark would be the one to  make certain hires–that she was better qualified than anyone to pass such judgement.

Including Reichert.

But Reichert had been around a long time too, from as far back as the halcyon days of the Social Credit Party (I remember him all too well). And he wasn’t about to get pushed around by this impish, diminutive woman from Port Moody with big hair and a mouth and ego to match.

Guess who won? Of course, after lobbying Campbell and going toe-to-toe with Reichert, Clark got her way.

She hired someone she could trust. A close friend and confidant. Someone who she could use to advance her own agenda in as many constituencies as she would one day need to become premier herself.

She hired someone you may have heard of. His name is Bob Virk.

After almost four years as her legislative assistant, Clark hired the one man who did everything to advance her political career. Her relationship with Virk was never in question. She called in the reinforcements for any meeting, talk show or demonstration, and as underboss and first Capo to Dave Basi’s role as Godfather, Virk had it handled in a heartbeat. A call would go out from Virk to Basi and from the boss to ‘Basi’s Boys’ and the Clark demands, whatever they might’ve been, were immediately met.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

In 2011, while running for the leadership of the BC Liberal Party, Clark was on CKNW for the infamous interview where Mike Smyth, sitting in her old chair absolutely hammered her, mercilessly, over her role in the sale of BC Rail, and her various friendships with key players–particularly Erik Bornmann.

“Was he ever a friend of yours, a good friend? And is he now?” asked Iron Mike.

“No!” came the swift reply from Clark.

And again from Smyth: “Well how can you say that?! What about Alex Tsakumis, the blogger who’s released all these court documents showing you meeting with Bornmann all the time; and having lunch and dinner with Bornmann–at your house! How can you say he wasn’t a good friend?”

Clark: “Well, Mike you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. How do you know those documents are real? Alex has no credibility.”

As you know from seeing the dozens upon dozens of official court documents here that no one else has ever had–ones that almost landed me in jail as the special prosecutor’s office twice threatened me with contempt, Clark was not only close to Bornmann, they were very close friends and regularly spoke and consulted one another over the sale of BC Rail. His office even arranged for briefing notes to be drafted that she took into Cabinet. In turn, she leaked Cabinet level information to Bornmann and his associates, all while Team Bornmann were busy bribing public officials.

But did you see how quickly she threw Bornmann under the bus?

When Basi and Virk were charged she even made supportive calls to both. This was after years of being close friends and using them for their vast political network, inside and outside the Indo-Canadian Community. She wrote Basi and and his wife a beautiful note and provided a lavish gift at the “christening ceremony” (Sikh equivalent) for one of the Basi children. They posed for pictures together. She attended the reception. With Virk, Clark was equally generous and attended personal events as well. As for Bornmann, well, he was one of the first invited guests to the birthday toga party she threw for her then husband Mark Marrisen in July of 2003–where Basi was also in attendance.

And no sooner had her three pals hit a wall with the law (remember Basi and Virk were innocent until proven guilty and Bornmann turned state’s evidence), Clark tossed them under the tires like she was disposing of a used towelette.

This is how Christy Clark treats people who have gone to the wall for her.

And now I’m told you’re going to start seeing a “tougher” Clark.

A few of her handlers are apparently quite tired of some of us. And they are going to launch a campaign to discredit the Premier’s chief critics.

Including me–or so I was warned.

And she’s not going to put up with caucus insubordination either. The rumblings since the latest Angus Reid poll have a number of people thinking that sitting as independents is the way to go. But if last week was really any indication of anything, they’d all best get ready.

Abbotsford-Mission MLA and general great guy Randy Hawes was key in getting the improvements to Mission “Hospital’ (this govt has gutted its services–and that’s a pity because I had stitches there years ago after a horse back riding accident and the service was exemplary).  Hawes was instrumental in sealing the deal on a multi-million dollar improvement.

Do you remember seeing him at the announcement? Didn’t hear him at the podium as MLA responsible? No? That was because the Premier’s Office scheduled the announcement on the last day of Hawes’ annual vacation. He wasn’t there. Hawes was still airborne when Premier Photo-Op was mouthing away about how wonderful she is.

Why wasn’t Hawes invited? Well, it’s simple. Hawes isn’t stupid like a bunch of his other colleagues and he doesn’t like the Premier’s pathetic ways–she and her people know this well. And his principled outburst about the shameful record of his own government with respect to CLBC was NOT appreciated by the Premier’s minions.

So, in Hawes’ own constituency, she schedules an announcement while he’s still on vacation–the last day of vacation, for a project which he worked.

And that’s just the beginning. If you think she’s going to go softer and start talking real policy and do some honest work, think again.

This is the top graduating student (at least she graduated from somewhere!) of the Mark Marissen school of scorched earth and how to screw things up royally.

It’s going to start getting VERY nasty from the Premier’s end. She’s good at it. Just ask Dave Basi, Bob Virk and Erik Bornmann.

Get ready…apparently Christy’s mad.

Now, what did I do with that Kleenex box….?

I’ll be sure to send it over.

If Christy starts throwing stuff your way Alex, the term boomerang comes to mind.

    • AGT says:

The word ‘pain’ comes to mind…an it won’t be mine.

If they start to get personal, I will hit the nuclear button–twice, and she will have no political career left–ever. No holds barred, no limits–my kinda fight.

I’m here for the benefit of all of you. As the most read blogger in the province I have an obligation to the people of BC, greater than they could imagine. If she thinks I’m going to cower from a fight, she’s got another thing coming.

      And then another…

      • And you don’t fabricate stuff like the wacko GordonLara guy, so really, she has nowhere to go but down with the Titanic if you happen to surprise her with an iceberg, so to speak.

        • ROFLOL says:

Let’s see Qween Kristee’s Nerf air pistol verses a double barrel political shotgun.
On the bright side, having conquered London, a slime trail is forming from a visit by His Holy Highness himself on Friday. Must be giving a lecture on truth economics and how to handicap a province for your pals to profit from!

          • AGT says:

I cannot believe there is anyone that stupid to think Gordon Campbell deserves anything other than to be on the stand answering questions about BC Rail.

The second most despicable person ever to hold the Office of Premier.

she is pissing off mla*s she will disipline a mla he or she will sit as a indy or join a opposition party.

others will use this as an excuse to save their ass and join the bc conservative party.

alex i would pat you on the back for your great blog however i would have to remove a few knifes

    be careful my friend

  4. Steve says:

Oooooooo..Christy’s mad.Not half as mad as the people of BC that told her to get rid of the HST. Or the poor person stuck in a hospital hallway. Or the special needs people have been suffering under the Liberal’s rule. Or the islanders suffering 60 – 80% ferry fare increases. Or everyone suffering with all the fee increases, utility increases, and MSP increases. Or the injured person waiting for an ambulance from the next town over. Or the seniors who cannot afford all the increases to everything. Or the people of BC who are still waiting for the truth about BC Rail, and dammit, they deserve to know. Or the victims of crime who watch perps walk free due to court delays, after the Liberals closed courthouses all over BC. Or the people who had contracts torn up after being promised that wouldn’t happen. Or the people catching bugs in hospitals after the cleaning went to the lowest bidder. Or the people who believed the Liberals who said they would have the most open and accountable government ever. Or the businesses that have suffered under the HST. Or anyone that has to watch the Preem and her posse prance for the cameras, usually for something she had nothing to do with like the shipbuilding contracts from Ottawa. What is she gonna do? Take Alex out with a deftly wielded high heel? ( I would take a high heel for you Alex )

  5. Gordon Wilson and El Gordo mentioned in the same post.

    Sense some irony? :D

Gordon Wilson really had no chance to be the Preem… he didn’t have the charisma or the wits about him.

  6. George says:

I found this interesting. It appears that many are questioning Christy…

The wagons are circling, and I reckon it will be Christy tied to the stake..

Was it the last thing I wrote? That upset thee unelected One?

The definition of the word Crass, has many undesirable terms to describe it.

Without refinement, is the nice one. …………………Obtuse is another..Ha!

This will be fun, go get em’ Alex.

    Thanks Mr White.

  8. Lee says:

This is a good article Alex. You write well when threatened with attack (other times too but there is a certain clarity here). I look forward to seeing what the attacks by Christy and her BFFs will inspire.
I’ll have to remember not to piss you off.

  9. Martin says:

You’ve presented the elements of the BC Rail case quite well. You went through them with a fine tooth comb (unlike the rest of the dimbulbs in the mainstream media) and explained what the documents meant so even a 10 year old could understand it.

Summary: Christy Clark is guilty as hell of leaking Cabinet documents relating to the “sale” of BC Rail to CN.

Mike Smyth was willing to go to the bank while on CKNW with what you had posted, and he was doing a service to the people of BC skewering Crusty and making her absolutely have to lie her ass off to try and come off as halfway credible.

Our (unelected) Premier is an absolute sleaze, who stole the BC Liberal leadership and tries to this day to bury all the damning evidence from BC Rail.

You have assembled an army in the hundreds of thousands who have read the documents themselves and come to their own conclusion. Based on the comments of this site and other media sites, a majority of the people of the province of British Columbia are mad as hell, think our Premier is a fraud and can’t wait for an opportunity to throw her and her Government to the curb.

I think Friday is going to be a real tipping point, when Gordon Campbell comes galluping into town. After that, I think the beginning of the end of the BC Liberal party is near.

I can hardly wait for this armageddon. :)

    • AGT says:

It will be a day to remember, I’m sure.

    • Josef, obviously says:

Wonder who “Gyratin’ Gord” will take with him to London…

Wonder also if the BCLib’s most accomplished leader will tell his genuine understudy to save what can be salvaged or if one of his sons is going to insert themselves into this situation..

      • AGT says:

Okay Josef, off the farm again. Are you okay? Neither is their dad and neither has the jam or name. Their father made sure of that. Stop kidding yourself.

        • Josef says:

I had to ask the question, okay?

          • AGT says:

            Yeah, sure thing.

It was an incredibly daft question from an otherwise bright guy. So I had to point it out, okay?

            • AFAIK, neither of his sons are particularly interested in following in the old man’s footsteps. One has a career with some gaming software place, not sure about the other one.

            • Josef, obviously says:

Yes. I just know of many family businesses – including politics – where a child is groomed to fill the parent’s shoes. Seen it both in Washington State (Jennifer Dunn to Reagan Dunn) and in B.C. (WAC Bennett to Bill Bennett).

I just wish one of the Campbell boys would just tell Christina Joan ENOUGH ALREADY like they are her father or big brother. People see through the Marshmellow Cannon Mouth, the Cute Canute personality that makes fans and recovering fans duck n cover come a crisis, and the rest. This Premier lacks the gumption I thought she had… and has in spades the clique you KNEW she had.

Finally, to hear one of my heroes today on CKNW at the 10 AM hour cheerlead towards Christy was depressing. I know damn good and well this fella would NOT steal PINs for one in that she electronically kicked the organs out of me for a silly prank I pulled to spam a BCNDP petition and for two would have done more w/ CLBC than make us hold our breath. I was so upset I couldn’t even pick up the phone and talk back. I will stop there and save my anger for the good fight ahead.

              Josef

P.S. The last dozen or so tweets from https://twitter.com/#!/Garossino are rather interesting… the lady’s a former prosecutor.

              • AGT says:

Yes, Sandy is a friend of mine and asked me to join in the fight against the downtown casino, which I did, and we were successful.

Who was your “hero” that let you down?

                • Josef says:

                  Alise, OBVIOUSLY!

                  • AGT says:

Look, this is a temporary lovers spat.

My offer stands: if you can convince Alise Mills to marry you, I will be your best man and pay for the entire wedding to be held at the Four Seasons downtown.

One week prior, I’ll fly you and a dozen of your closest friends to Vegas–where I must chaperone of course. Exclusive suites at the Bellagio, limos door to door and…a few extras…

For the wedding, no expense spared, guests to maximum capacity (750) and unlimited Veuve Cliquot service to start; I’ll get ‘Loverboy’ to play all night. I’ll fly the flowers in from Belgium.

I’ll even have the ring made at Harry Winston in New York. I’ll design it so it looks like an ice rink.

All she needs to say is ‘Yes!’ now get on it.

                    • Josef says:

                      I cannot stop laughing!

                    • AGT says:

Why?! Get on it! Stop wasting time, my friend. Do you have her number? I’ll give it to you.

Go get your suit pressed pal. Haircut. Mani and pedi, I’ll even sprout for that. I want you to look super-handsome when you get down on one knee for Alise Mills. She won’t date just anybody.

If she turns our Joe down, she’s nuts…

  10. JamesP says:

Too bad Ms. Clark hasn’t the ability to nix the HST efficiently, settle the teachers, solve hospital wait times, say no to Enbridge, assist fish farms transition to closed containment, institute ICBC user dividends and… BC is actually poised to reap massive trade balance revenue from Asia and US as corporations begin to unleash their cash reserves to replace machinery, equipment, infrastructure and jobs BUT we are also poised to elect a socialist idealogue who wants to crush wealth creation and corporate investment…. oh how we will pay for Ms. Titty Titty Bang Bang and her vindictive vanity… We’ll get through this and I hope a new vibrant leader will emerge on the heels of Adrian’s foibles. Thanks Alex, always a good read.

    • AGT says:

      You’re most welcome.

      • Chris says:

I have the feeling that the HST will be her ace in the hole. Her ratings can’t possibly get any lower, but if they do……surprise announcement!!! Crispy Crotch comes out and tells her ‘people’ (us, in other words), that the HST will be abolished much sooner than reported because she slammed the hammer down and made it happen. I really don’t think it would matter if she does that, or anything else significant. No matter what she does, she’d be lucky to raise her approval level by a ‘c’* hair, and even that reeks of a compliment.
        * Guys with tape measures know what a ‘c’ hair is :)

        • AGT says:

She won’t be able to do anything with respect to the HST. People who were most vulnerable to its tyranny have lost millions (cumulatively)–BILLIONS, in fact.

All need be is for someone to point that out and she’s darker toast.

Oh, and, yes, I have several tape measures…

    • James P says:

We may be nearing a time when someone chooses to meet with an authority, armed with incontrovertible evidence on BC Rail participants, beyond what the courts have now, forcing an enquiry. None of these skeletons will remain buried. Who turns on who? The polling numbers combined with what you’ve unearthed and posted thus far has upped the ante. I’m hearing rumblings from some of those least likely. Keep it up sir.

  11. WHITEROCKJ says:

    ROFL!!!!!!

the premeir of the province of British Columbia has to “discredit” a blogger.

hey christy heres a few items that maybe you should look at first

    -get rid of the hst
-reverting to accounting practices accepted by the proffession (GAAP?) rather than hiding debt
-call the inquiry into BC RAIL (its happening after your thrown out of office anyway)
    - settle the teachers strike (and no, not with a legislated deal that we the people will get sued for costing us 10 years of lawyer fees)
-stop passing balanced budget legislation you have no intention of meeting and be honest (you can look up what honest means in the dictionary)
-throw kash heed out of the liberal party (the man cheated to get elected)
-strip gordon campbell of the order of bc and restore some dignity to the award (forget the hst, the man embarrassed our entire country by being arrested dui in a foreign country)
-stop the smart meters program (were not stupid, we know its about time of day billing)
    -fix CLBC
-fix our health care system so people are not being treated in a tim hortons
-raise the minimum wage to something people could actually survive on
-fix the legal system so cases are not being constantly thrown out due to the wait (and no putting cameras in courtrooms is not fixing them)
-apologize on behalf of the liberal party of bc for lieing to win the last election and call the election you said you would.

then move on to alex, until then

HE HAS MORE CREDIBILITY THAN YOU.

and we will continue to read his blog and tell others about it.

ps- maybe dont bother, alex will probably have more credibility than you even if you did fix all that.

  12. Bas says:

    Great intel, Alex.

A couple of things come to mind – I guess the truth hurts! The other is an old saying I have used for years, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”.

Have at her, Alex. She deserves everything coming her way!

  13. Doctor J says:

Maybe she’ll use taxpayer-paid lawyers to engage in some libel chill, as if the victim of criticisms against her is the Office rather than the person, and as you know she is very close to some high-paid government lawyers . . . .

It also may be interesting to see what the Vander Zalm – Hughes libel case pending decision will do to libel laws, maybe rolling back some of the liberalized treatment of libels that resulted from the case won by Rafe Mair.

But what do you think triggered this turnabout by Crispy? Was it the poll numbers? Was it something you wrote? Something someone else wrote? Perhaps she was annoyed that some analysis of her plunging poll numbers deduced that she was the author of her own downturn and that her decline was due to her inaction and not due mainly to baggage left by Campbell. It’s probably not a coincidence that in recent days Crispy has been putting out several announcements each day – more judges, a new jail, new energy strategy, etc etc – she IS trying hard to rescue her career.

When in doubt blame the messenger eh.

Meanwhile I’m intrigued how you twice mentioned you have TWO bombshells waiting to be released . . . . any hints?

    • AGT says:

      No.

The reason I get the readership I do, and draw fire from critics, is because I’m very careful. Stories like the ones you’ll see soon enough I run through a few lawyers and we’ll often talk about the nuances or details. Then I’ll sit on them for awhile.

You’ll notice you’ve seen the second interview with Brian Kieran in the investigative phase of Basi-Virk and not the fifty plus page mammoth. There is a reason for that.

Clark’s people are simply too stupid to understand that if they come after me, it’ll simply create more problems for them.

I disagree with you on the libel laws. I don’t believe VanderZalm libelled the judge. I’ve read the allegedly offensive passage that Bill wrote and I don’t think it’s anything but his opinion. Hughes is a bit of a blowhard and overly sensitive. I was there. He took relish in hammering a premier he clearly didn’t like.

The announcements you’re seeing from the premier are window dressing. The Kitimat announcement is something that’s been talked about since Glen Clark was premier. The jail was in the pipe well before she was Preem. The CLBC about face is nominal.

She’s still thinking that any inkling of an up and she’ll call a snap election. Her problem is the HST and her own image. Her messaging stinks and she’s often uneasy. Caucus support for her is at an all-time low. It’s bad out there for Christy.

So, naturally, when you’re a sociopath, it’s never your fault.

  14. Larry Bennett, Burnaby says:

Sorry Alex, but I can’t hate her and her people with the same passion and intensity as you (and many here) but then I don’t hang around in these echelons, nor do I let myself get so close to power (obviously!).
I see her, basically, as a typical egotistical politician, but one with the vanities and graces of any other woman who wishes to be seen as feminine and ever so slightly sexy and smart (cue Natalie Wood singing “I’m So Pretty”) and etc., and yet filled with dignity and gravitas! I do not see her leading us into those sunlit uplands, but rather down blind alleys of despair, or some similar Churchillian metaphor . However, government by Dixian dictat makes me physically ill and psychically phobic, and I will be casting (or throwing away) my ballot, the way of the B.C. Conservative Party. By the way, I think they’re bluffing like crazy on the threats.

  15. Seymour Forest says:

The leater shoe polished by Reichart fits.

Virk got overwhelmed by the opiate of power and while under the influence did some stupid things. A real manipulator. The proverbial Back Room Boy.

But let’s widen this out a little more to merge slightly before your
    excellent story.

But back then the BC Liberals were in a state of movement. The dominance of May Brown and her bloc was coming to a close. They figured they would build up from Gordon Wilson and his playing the Bedspring Symphony in a duet with Judi Tyabji with a new leader, but in 1996, they flamed out with said leader. Nauseating PR and disasterous policy, a forshadowing of the political ear shattering concussion explosion that would come years later.

So after that, there was a change over, and Christy decided as a newly minted MLA (won in ’96) to ensure the Liberals stayed Liberal.
Enter Virk and a few others.

It worked but only for awhile until Reichardt decided to exert his own influence. he hired his own, One in particular was a real dunce when it came politics. He/she was ga-ga over Campbell. Rose as per usual but went down in flames in spectacular fashion like a Japanese Zero going into the water after being hit, But that was well after Virk arrived at their office.

Consider back then that the BC Liberals were in bad shape. They had a president (origin Federal Liberal) who figured it was good to just let go of the membership free, and let anyone just take one off the table for free, this meant a loss of revenue. The BC Liberals hadn’t done much to attract new people and it showed.

That idea of free/gratis memberships was a disaster (they had hoped with every free membership would come a donation but didn’t happen as well as expected.

Closing in on 2000, to 2001, Virk was making his moves as any good boy Back Room Boy did, but he was making big errors in judgement.
Some oft he ridings that could have been won weren’t even strong enough to have 10 people show up for an AGM despite having an MLA who won in 2001.

So in short, the BC Liberals back then were still after Gordon Wilson heavily federal Liberal (complete with Women’s and Aboriginal People’s Section), a convulted constitution, and weak party leadership at the riding level.

it then morphed into something red/blue with our hero Kelly Reichardt at the wheel.

the rest as they say is history.

Which is exactly what Christy Clark and the BC Liberals will be if both the Party and the Government don’t smarten up RFQ.

  16. Bruce says:

Alex, great Article as always, enjoy reading your blog, along with the comments from your readers.
As I watched on TV with her announcing the new Jail in the interior,I was thinking maybe it will be finished in time to house Christy for two years less a day.It would be fitting.
But I will not worry about you if they do attack you. As I believe you have more brains and brawn than the whole crew of those who want to do you harm. Be safe and be well and keep writing the truth. Cheers

  17. Josef, obviously says:

Well I can tell you Alex that several key BCLib Caucus Communications staffers in recent months have left for Alberta – some private sector, one for the Alberta… Liberals. Not WildRose, but the has-been AB Liberals. I am also more than aware another public voice of the BCLibs is looking into a lifeboat as well – sorry I can’t say more in the public comment threads, don’t want to see this FUBAR’d… but when it happens Alex you’re getting an e-mail. And a Facebook DM. And a webmail.

That said, all these BCLib communicators realizing lifeboats are worth taking… says that they realize something is seriously wrong. Seriously. I can’t say I blame them because when the dishonour is drained, the positive contributions of the BCLiberal brand will be forgotten.

As to draining dishonour: I hope those BCLibPIN whistleblowers are able to talk. They have a duty to talk to all the people that paid to vote and volunteered to make this right, especially with the party about to vaporize. Unlike America, Canada has a rock-solid reputation for voter integrity and punishing those who wanted to change that is best.

    Off hot.

  18. Hopeful Citizen says:

    Hi Alex,
Many people in BC have nothing more to lose and everything to gain by supporting you in your clear call for justice and the restoration of some fairness and ethics in political life. As stated previously, I would empty my modest bank accounts to support you in the event of adversity and use every social media tool at my disposal to champion your right to be heard on matters of conscience that you have researched so extensively. Honestly, I don’t know what it will take to restore a very broken system. It is like the most tragic case of ‘innocence lost.’ While I don’t condone it, I sure understand the apathy of voters and the disillusion of citizens. While I don’t se the alternatives to the Liberals offering voice or vision, I know that we cannot continue to reward this regime with all it’s empty rhetoric. Thank you Alex for your willingness to take a stand. All those we commemorate today are those who stood up for the underprivileged or a cause greater than themselves. There are those who have fought to make new advances and those, like you, who are fighting to preserve and restore what we once took for granted. Kudos!

She could have won the HST referendum if she had dropped it to 10% right from the get go,but she is stupid and the government needed that cash cow until at least 2013 to pay for all that extravagance in 2010 and the gateway project and the new roof, and thas is the very reason it won`t be fixed until then.

    • AGT says:

Even that wouldn’t have been enough. She needed to look at the most needy and vulnerable in this province and had to have delivered exemptions for all sorts of goods and services.

  20. LC says:

B.C. Liberals announce blacktop upgrades as Chilliwack-Hope byelection approaches
    http://www.theprovince.com
A $6-million road upgrade in the Hope area is the first major move by the B.C. Liberals to woo voters ahead of the pending byelection in Barry Penner’s old riding of Chilliwack-Hope. A date for the byelection has not been announced The road project, announced by Minister of Advanced Education …

This was posted by a friend on Facebook tonight, when I followed the link…It seems the story was pulled from the Province’s web site.

This all seems a bit weird…

    • AGT says:

Nothing weird about any of it. IT’s a very cynical move that will backfire.

And they’re polling third in two of three polls I’ve seen and second in the other.

Not good. Frankly, I hope the NDP take both. Port Moody is a guarantee, but I hope Chilliwack goes to the NDP to wake the BC Conservatives up from their stupid, stubborn slumber. They will not broaden the base as long as they remain Reform Party 2.0

And it’ll be a pity too since Martin is a good candidate.

      • Seymour Forest says:

Nothting weird about it. The project is one typical of any government,
repaving major roads. The NDP did it (in fact they were the ones that put in the one direction only HOV lane on the Port Mann Bridge).

The newsrelease is there from the Ministry for all to see. The quotes are nauseating, but the overall project isn’t anything to get overly excited about.

News media change stories all the time, there’s no “convenient censorship” as some might perceive.

        NDP takes both by-elections.

Also, Watch for another session of needless overkill door to door calls to other ridings. Interestingly Chilliwack and Port Moody should have alot of members that can do that. Ian Black’s riding events were strongly attended as were those in ridings around him.

So why the needless call to MLAs to ship their own people to another riding when the Premier doesn’t even show effort and go out herself for at least a half neighbourhood to show some support for the sod
that’s running up there other than a “lookit meeee” media event.

Wonder who the more promient MLAs who didn’t show in Chillwack were? DeJong? Falcon?

        • AGT says:

Well, none of the surrounding ones–prominent ones inside and outside Cabinet.

deJong’s been lying low. He knows there is a major shift to the Conservatives in his riding and he is identified as a staunch Liberal. Plus, he’s rightly hated, so he is probably not running again.

          • Seymour Forest says:

Kinda says alot. In the optimum political world, the call would go out and people would assist to keep the awful evil socialists from even getting a grasp at a favoured riding.

If there were no surrounding MLAs (other than John Les who is next door, it stays quite a bit.

            Actually tells alot.

DeJong should go back to his law firm and continue on in Trial Law.
He has a talent for theatre for it.

This going to be interesting to see what happens next.

Tune in next week as The Legislature returns.

            or is that

            “As The Stomach Turns”

(with apologies to one of my favorite celebrites Carol Burnett)

      • Bob says:

        Alex,
Not that I would presume for a second to doubt your political acumen and perhaps its just to reinforce my wishful thinking but I’ll bet you a steak dinner at our favorite place that Martin takes it.

In front of all of these stalwart witnesses as well.

        • AGT says:

Yeah, I’m inclined to believe he will as well, but the BC Conservatives need a desperate wake-up call. I’ve heard from several inside sources that their conference calls sound like a Reform Party revival…beyond pathetic.

If they broadened their base, they’d have at least five or six BC Liberal MLAs cross over. And good ones too!

  21. Don F. says:

I don’t know. Ms clark certainly has things to think about, she has a problem in that she is above her head and knee deep in something so far above her capabilities. Ms. Clark relies on people and hopefully surrounds herself with people who she pays to insure her success and that is her mistake. She herself must posess the ability and authority it takes to be premier of this province, she doesn’t.
Is she going down??… it appears so.
It is a stretch however for those beating their chest’s that they had anything to do with this surmise to claim some sort of victory. it is far easier to step on a slug than to conquer a lion.
Ms. Clark will never face her true roll in the BC rail scandal and for that reason the chest beating is meaningless. The public is left snookered again.
    Don

    Alex

The reason that you have the readership that you have is because you tell the truth, not because you are careful.

Careful is not your strong suit.

This group of “sanctimonious ne’er do wells” need to be taken to task. Mark Marrisen, Erik Bornmann, Brian Kieran, Patrick Kinsella, Bruce Clark, David McLean et al.

We do not need these opportunistic leeches connected to the underbelly of our government.

All you need to do is keep telling the truth. (and bless you for doing it)

    Simple isn’t it?

  23. Shell says:

    Hi Alex!

    Great article!

I found your comments about Crusty manipulating Gordo, most enlightening about Gordo’s apparent lack street smarts and his inability in general to read peoples motives… how on earth did he get sucked in by her transparent bullsh*t? I thought he was smarter than that.

But, I guess when two sociopaths get together and start inserting butt plugs into each other, neither of them notices what’s happening to them… they’re both too busy admiring their own insertion techniques.

And speaking of insertion techniques, Crusty has chosen to insert idiots & pussies around her because she knows they can’t recognize bullsh*t – and even if they could, they don’t have the balls to call her on it!

Ah yes, Crusty – World-Crass… err, world-Class sociopath!

Crusty reminds me of a Slinky… not really good for anything, but it’s always fun to watch her fall down the stairs!

  25. James says:

A lot of the things people seem to be upset about are pretty much impossible to fix. The health care system for example can never be fixed because it’s a complete sham. It will continue to decline until it totally fails. It needs to be completely changed but even saying you would make the changes required would lead to being thrown out of office.

    • AGT says:

I see your point, and it’s a good one, but I’m thinking that the result would be the opposite.

Even the nurses and doctors see the waste and problems. If you read any of their information bulletins to their members, it’s like listening to someone yell about their neighbour, and then shuffle their feet back inside because they know they’re to blame as well.

Was John Slater, BC Liberal MLA for Boundary-Similkameen, at the big new jail announcement in Oliver?

Just want to know if your theory holds up.

    • AGT says:

You know, you’re an interesting commenter….

From your first set of comments I learned this:

      1) You’ve only seen damning evidence that Clark was involved in the BC Rail scandal but after I reveal over 82 specific documents, you demand a smoking gun.
      2) Mike Smyth, a major critic of the BC Libs, is a writer whose offers are akin to a drunk rambling at a bar.
      3) You listed Craig McInnes’ embarrassing column on the Stephen Smart conflict affair and only noted the line he uses about how conflicts abound and how it’s how they’re managed that counts–seemingly agreeing with such shameful excuse mongering.
      4) In a similar vein, you laud Andrew MacLeod of the Tyee, who wrote an article wherein he condemned the Smart affair excuse-mongers, but you again concentrated on the fact that Kirk LaPointe’s son and Stephen Smart work there–and it was MacLeod who revealed this, as if it makes a difference to Smart’s shameful position. and as if to say, ‘Ha, look! There are conflicts there too!’
      5) The one I liked the best, was when you had the temerity to pretend BC Liberal Peesident Sharon White received her QC because her bona fides were in line with Law Society work that the selection committee required as a criteria. Ignoring that the work she is being lauded for by you, largely stopped years ago, and it’s only now that she was co-campaign chair for the Clark leadership bid that Sharon received her reward, excuse me, award. Complete coincidence, I’m sure.

Listen, give my regards to all your pals with the PAB.

Are you sure that your first name isn’t Gordon or Rich?

That John Slater was there or not, is irrelevant. Her enemies she’s either hammering or keeping at bay. It’s crunch time.

      Now, go spin somewhere else.

someone please explain to me the whys of allowing these people to assume the titles of “honourable” when what they do is far from it? wrote to the mla for my region suggesting that the term “honourable” should be earned and not just assumed. we are sorely lacking as a society when these “honourable” leaders are handsomely rewarded for their dirty deeds and spouting off of mistruths and we sit in frustration watching the ruination of our province. still remember the day when my contract was ripped up and 15% taken from my wages, pension and superannuation. as a retiree with a small pension that extra would be very beneficial to me now. is it just me or has the purse strings been opened a tad for new judges, new prison and whatever new announcement is waiting in the wings for yet another photo op. love the title ms. titty titty bang bang!!!!

    • AGT says:

      Honour?

Let me tell you about honour.

The single mom whose kid is a high functioning autistic that is working two jobs because the govt has cut back on her subsidies; she’s got honour.

The veteran sitting in an old folks home that’s had it’s CLBC funding cut so Christy can featherbed for her pals, is a man of honour.

The longshoreman with asthma and diabetes who has to go home and care for a wife suffering from MS and three kids who are struggling through school; he’s got honour.

The middle aged woman on welfare who’s never had a break her whole life and is now off drugs but still struggling to keep her sanity in an increasingly tough life because Christy believes in the “justice” of giving people who are almost starving $650.00 to survive on; she’s got honour.

I’ve just provided you with the make up of four readers that have commented on this blog in the last 24 hours. All of them are heroes (and heroines) and they come here because they, like you Samantha, have honour.

But do not ask why. Do not ask why, my dear.

I’m a guy who won, failed, and won again. And this is considered bad. I’ve helped people my whole life–mostly to my detriment and have never taken anything that wasn’t mine. When I lost, I lost big, and when I won, I won big. This is bad, you see. For my critics, I’m a “trustfunder” or “a retired biker” or “a former stock marketier” ALL FALSE, ALL CONTRIVED…just so they can say I have no honour. Only NDP bloggers come up with BC Rail homeruns, I’ve done nothing. So that internet nutbars fromthe coast can launch feeble attacks based on lies. You see, you must have a certain membership to the inner select of every group to pull that off.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

It’s why I’m number one in the provincial blogosphere: You EARN your honour around here. I have the best and most honourable regulars because they are intelligent and decent–they earned their honour too.

      You’re a very intelligent gal…

In case I wasn’t emphatic enough, I really liked your comment;-)

CC has today combined the attorney generals office and solicitor generals office into one … now the justice ministry if i recall.

are the two office not seperated as one is in charge of the police forces of our province and the other the judiciary?

isnt this essentially handing the keys for the entire justice system to one individual? and is that not why the two had been seperate?

    • AGT says:

It’s an incredibly stupid decision, for a number of reasons, not limited to but certainly including the logistical nightmare it will create.

and those damb socialists wouldn’t be snacking’ up the provincial

It’s still on 3 because of that little stunt Campbell pulled with the damb HST .We hadn’t caught it in time, it will go to Defcon 1 any second. You know what that means in BC politics, Sparky?

Sparky: No. What does that mean?

        World War Three.

    Alex,
As a species we seem doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over. We all are taught history, there are excellent tomes out there about it yet we seem to learn nothing from what we read. Christy Clarke is no different, she had the chance to review Campells mistakes and conduct the business of governing better. Admitting to a few mistakes and rectifying them in short order would have gone far with the populace but no, she decided to dive into the barrel and go straight to the bottom and then wonder why she is where she is.

Interesting footnote: Christy got rid of Bob Virk from her political inner circle because he was always butting heads with Kimmy–she considered him “a choir boy.”

Oh and I am trying desperately to get my hero to realize “I want you safe, rich and appreciated. Or in charge of the BCLibs. One of the two.”

BC Premier Clark to replace throne speech with radio appearance.

“In place of a formal Throne Speech, the Premier will be appearing on CKNW’s Bill Good Show to outline the government’s agenda for the spring session,”

    http://thetyee.ca/Blogs/TheHook/BC-Politics/2012/02/09/RadioReturn/

Wow, she sure know how to reach the province. A little chat on a local radio station you can’t hear east of Abbotsford, not even that clear in the whole of the GVRD. Those with internet might get to hear her.

The lieutenant governor, currently Steven Point, usually delivers a speech on behalf of the government each February giving an overview of what it is planning to do.

So much for formal political procedure…

I guess Christy needs to be the the one on the grandstand. I hope Prince George, Kelowna, Cache Creek, Burns Lake, etc can get 980 on their AM dial.

    Stupid woman.

    • AGT says:

      I’m about to post.

I’ll show you in detail how stupid she and her whole crew are.

      • Splendor Sine Occasu says:

Talk about thumbing her nose at HM the Queen, as well as parliamentary tradition! There is a reason why the Lieutenant Governor (representing HM) opens the legislature and reads the Speech from the Throne.

As far as I know, the Bill Good Show is only heard in the GVRD, Kamloops, Kelowna, and parts of Fantasy Island that are in range of CKNW. Way to reach out to the Province!

Every day, she surprises me with her stupidity.

        • AGT says:

Just when you think she’s plumbed the depths of her own stupidity, she ceases to amaze…

          • Steve says:

You have got to be $#@%#@! kidding me! I would ask just who does she think she is but I think I know the answer. What arrogance. CKNW should have known better than to accept.

          • Seymour Forest says:

The House was not technically ending the Session. But before people honk loudly enough to replace the foghorn at Point Atkinson or Enterance Island:

This is the ending on Nov. 24 from Hansard:

Hon. R. Coleman: Wishing you all a merry Christmas, a happy new year and safe travels. We’ll see you in February to do this all again.

Hon. R. Coleman moved adjournment of the House.

            Motion approved.

Mr. Speaker: This House stands adjourned until further notice.

The House adjourned at 5:30 p.m.

So, the legislature did not close the Session. But Christy Crunch should have recalled the House, finished some business, and had Mr. Speaker end the Session.

The very next day, His Honour the Lt. Govenor would deliver his Speech from The Throne to start a new session.

She erred in not recalling The House spending a few days on closing off some business and ending the Session to start a new one.

Now everyone can honk as loud as the foghorn at Pt. Atkinson.

CKNW can’t be heard beyond Annis Rd in Chillwack. Many times I’ve driven the Trans-Canada and am able to barely start getting CKNW once I’ve passed under the power lines before coming onto the flatlands.

The keep saying Corus Network, but is a station such as CHNL in Kamloops part of that? What about the Okanagan and there’s also 100 Mile House and other places around the ‘Boo.

It’s also not all that good on The Island either.

            Dumb move by dumb people.

But VanderZalm had that Listen to The Premier spot on CKNW for awhile, but it ended up being an extension of a garden advice show.
People kept asking him gardening questions, which is I suppose a bit typical for him.

Much of his time was tilling the grassroots of the BC Social Credit Party.

and feeding them lots of fertilizer.

            • AGT says:

              You’re mixing matters.

Bill’s Premier’s spot had nothing to do with the legislature rising or being in darkness.

your point about the recess is well taken but tradition and protocol is to have a throne speech–plain and simple. That’s how it’s always worked in this province.

And, no, CHNL, that I’ve had the pleasure of working with, is not owned by Corus.

              • Seymour Forest says:

                Points well taken.

I would have said to Christy Crunch, have a week of business, end the Session and start a new Parliament with a Throne Speech, just like tradition has always been.

Throne Speeches in content aren’t all that much, but it is more of the tradition in Westminster parliaments to start off with a Throne Speech.

Even more so this year with HM Queen Elizabeth in her 60th year.

She made a bad move on that one.

The current Session begins next Tuesday a week after that the Budget.

and I looked at the news item from Global as linked from in here.

Geezus, what a mess that was.

She forgot one thing out of many.

Never fight the media on TV. You’ll lose every time.

as far as CHNL goes, might be a good thing.

The good folks up there in beautiful Kamloops aren’t missing anything.
