EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS: BC Liberal Caucus Musings: ‘We’re In Trouble and Won’t Win the Next Election’

183

If you thought that Premier Christy Clark didn’t have enough problems, well, think again.

At the most recent caucus gathering, with the Premier present, up shot  MLA Pat Pimm. Apparently, Mr. Pimm has done an analysis of the BC Liberal fortunes in the next election. He reported that he confirms the BC Conservatives are really gaining and are certainly at 18%-20% and very much growing.

After a carefully read analysis, he declared that in the next provincial election, if it were held sooner than later (an obvious message to the Premier, who once again, wants to go early in the Spring of 2012–she’ll never learn–and is stoking increasing potential for a caucus revolt) that the government would surely lose and not exceed 35 seats.

Which caused well-known Surrey MLA and all-round nice guy Dave Hayer to leap from his seat and say that anyone who thought the BC Liberals would get 35 seats in the next election was dreaming.

With the Premier present for all of this, stone-faced and fresh from several bhangra twirls with Health Minister Mike de Jong, who also sat silently.

It’s coming apart my darlings…and she’s doing it all on her own.

  1. Sparky says:

:) “It’s coming apart like a Fred Asher suit.”

  2. Fonzo says:

Lets start a pool on which time-slot she soon gets at CKNW, lmao.

  3. donkeyhotey says:

I will never forget the image of deJong in the hallway of the leadership convention venue getting caught by Ted Field as he was heading into Christy’s bailiwack. He looked so guilty, I knew something was up. This was after he had just lost the first round. What is up with those two? Glad to see the rats scrambling.

Had to say, though, that I was sure that Gregor was toast, and look what happened. I live in fear that the same thing will happen with the Preme.

  4. Martin says:

I hope that sweet, sweet karma and the voters of BC elect the Lieberals to 2 seats or less, much like what happened to the BC NDP and the Progressive Conservatives.

Time to stand up, get your ass to the voting booth and say enough is enough!!!

  5. Ian Fromme-Nelson says:

Crunch time for Christy Crunch. Looks good on ‘em.

    Thanks, AGT!

  6. Splendor Sine Occasu says:

If Mr. Pimm conducted an analysis, it would be his first. The man is a blowhard, plain and simple. Fire! Ready! Aim!

If the Tories have any chance of winning seats, it would be the two Peace River seats. Mr. Pimm must be getting an earful from his constituents.

    • AGT says:

Both of those seats will go BC Conservative but they must do the legwork first.

      • arf says:

More likely independent, as Peace River North almost went last time. Folks up here remember that the Cons were in favor of the HST and come with a few ideas that are a bit too far right for a capture of the riding. A stronger independent would have seen Pimm at home shoveling snow instead of offering his “analysis” on anything. Lekstrom falling back into the fold soured much of his support and it is lost no matter how hard it has been courted back via flood money spending in that riding. And they still have no Eastbound rail service even though CN and the liberals promised it with the giveaway of BC Rail.

  7. Mira says:

What’s the alternative Alex? Provincially… NDixP ? After Vision in Vancouver what am I going to wish for myself? Death?
    Unbelievable.
BC Liberals have no chance in Hell.

  8. Mike Boileau says:

The more I see of the “Christy Clark Band Wagon” and Christy Clark herself, the more I love my dog. She trys to take credit for the accomplishments of others and has that fake smile across her face all the while. I don’t know when to believe her. On the nepotism file with Heir Muir, I must tell you, any “Bureaucrat” that has been around longer then 6 months will tell you there is no way anybody gets contracts that are not tendered. Further, when Government uses catch phrazes like “Immediate necessity” or “Public Safety” you can bet there is something nefarious about what is going on. There is no such thing as “Immenint Danger or Safety Concerns” when it comes to Government Procurement. One day, if asked, I shall explain that.

  9. Bruce says:

In reference to your last statement ( its coming apart…and she doing it all on her own) so it should. Call the election. And don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

  10. Jay says:

    The plot certainly thickens….

  11. Robbie says:

Holy bhangra twirls, Batman. Are those nasty Caucus divisions created solely by Ms Clark’s growing political inertia? Is a Port Moody by-election NDP candidate Mr Trasolini’s to lose? And, to think, he was once a supporter of Ms Clark. Mr Cummins’ growing support at 18% will be put to the test on the streets of Port Moody.

  12. Lance says:

I think this illustrates Christy in the next election.
    Hint…… Slim Pickens is Christy.

  13. DonGar says:

    Alex,

You and others have pondered why the NDP and Conservatives are not jumping all over the screw-ups at liberal central. I would suggest why waste the effort when the liberals will do it to themselves and by saying nothing now it just adds more fodder at election time. And in the meantime we all get to see how pathetic and biased the MSM have become.

    • Joe Public says:

It’s pretty standard practice for a government in waiting not to comment on a failing governement. The next election will be the NDP’s to lose and anything that they say now will just give the Liberals a wedge issue to exploit.

    • Wake Up BC! says:

When the government begins to fall, it is the duty of the opposition to get out of the way.

  14. arf says:

When I talked to Pimm in early October, he was right behind her and gave me the brush off when I said I thought that she wouldn’t make spring. How things change. Only the independents will have a chance next go. He had a perfect chance to remain independent after his “incident” but ran right back.

  15. Joe S says:

I wonder if she kept her parking space at CKNW. Hmmm

  16. r says:

if they have to elect a new leader will they use PIN system again?

  17. froth says:

The best hope for a BC RAIL inquiry is DIX and the NDP.
One must vote NDP for the sake of a small semblance of democracy to return to Victoria.

ps “It’s coming apart my darlings…and she’s doing it all on her own”

She has a deDong-Jong appendage helping their fortunes along ;-)

pps ‘It’s coming apart like a Fred Asher suit” … an oldie but goodie from Red Robinson days.

off to have some happy drinks after his news!

  18. P Lehry says:

lol. Pimm and Hayer running scared. How do you think Surrey will go next election Alex?

    • AGT says:

Mostly NDP. Depends who the BC Conservatives run.

    • The High Commisioner of the Office of the Smoking Halo says:

I gotta say, hearing about Dave Hayer leaping up out of his seat and saying what he did was pretty impressive. He’s a rather quiet guy most of the time.

      • Common Tater says:

Hayer is a quiet guy because he listens and studies. He is close to the people in his riding and serves them well. He is no one’s fool.

Maybe becuase he was a backer of Kevin Falcon, Christy demoted him.

        • Smoking Halo says:

He’s never had a cabinet portfolio as far as I can remember. But he does a bang up job of listening to what his constituents have to say. He’s the only MLA I know of who has a monthly gathering with them for coffee. He even smuggled me into a supposedly private meeting with El Gordo beginning of the year. Not that I learned any secrets out of it, His Excremency was too busy staring at my chest.

You know what they say…. still waters run deep.

      • SB says:

I have Met Dave Hayer he is a decent honest guy , also very intelligent if he stood up and said that no doubts the wheels are falling off now.

        • Smoking Halo says:

Yep. He listens and observes. I know Raj Hundal as well, but I really think it would be a shame if Surrey-Tynehead lost Dave Hayer. I don’t think Raj Hundal would be so kind to the people in his riding.

  19. hawgwash says:

I laugh every time I think of the caucus getting together and looking at each other, suspiciously wondering which of them has you on speed dial. Truth is, they probably all do.

Except of course, Cee Cee and Mike je Dong,

  20. Josef says:

The only hopes the BCLibs have are:

    a) People remember the BCNDP are socialists and always will be so while the BC Con leader voted BCNDP so shut up & vote BCLiberal. Post-HST probably unlikely. After all, some ginger dipper MLA said she was only 12 the last time the socialist hordes ran BC in QP today.

    b) Premier Alise Mills. Without going on about how I think Alise Mills is superheroic and someone who makes even Gordon Campbell come up short… when Premier Alise Mills happens, I will believe a human being can make a rose bloom on command. Enuf said.

    c) Premier Kevin Falcon and gutting out a win by gutting out BCLib HQ. Get rid of Chaz, replace w/ Alise Mills and eke out a win. Just quite possible.

    d) Finally the vote falls in such a way BCLibs can form a minority w/ independent support. Highly likely.

Plz remember the imagery of a nuclear bomb ( http://youtu.be/joupmq4e2eM ) is still ringing in my Aspergian mind!!!

    Josef

P.S. Don’t you wish this also happened to some other idiot in a suit we know of…

    • chuckstraight says:

What a pile of bull- Josef. The BC Liberal party has ripped off he BC citizens big time. And deserve to be put out with the garbage.

      • Josef says:

        chuckstraight;.

        The BCNDP are garbage.

        The BC CONs are garbage.

The BC Libs fundamental ideas are sound. But sadly they have been strayed from. Today, Premier Cute decided to make fighting DUIs all abourt her: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bcgovphotos/6391838195/in/contacts/

        • AGT says:

Okay, I knew at some point you’d go too far and I’d have to step in:

          1) There is no party in the history of this province that is more corrupt and unethical than the BC Liberal Party–period.
          2) The BC Liberals DO NOT have sound fundamentals, Josef. They don’t have ANY goddamned fundamentals, except how to make themselves and their friends rich off the poor, needy, elderly, sick and generally disadvantaged.
          3) You are NOT permitted to refer to any parties on this site as garbage, who are offering legitimate alternatives to the corruption and dishonesty of the party you claim is good for BC.

Lastly….CAN YOU PLEASE STOP THE ENDLESS, MINDLESS NONSENSE ABOUT ALISE MILLS!!!!! She isn’t qualified to run a lemonade stand never mind be Premier. Stop the insanity. Nice lady. Mediocre commentator at best. Get over it.

          • The High Commisioner of the Office of the Smoking Halo says:

I’m more qualified than Alise Mills and quite frankly, that ain’t saying much ;-)

          • Josef says:

            Okay Alex.

I am out about calling the other paties garbage. I apologize.

BCLibs want to protect social liberalism while growing the free enterprise economy. Sadly Premier Christy Canute forgot that part in her insane need to help her clique. I’m sure the kids in CLBC care are sick of it.

Oh and Alise Mills “isn’t qualified to run a lemonade stand never mind be Premier”? Oh the Alise Mills who was CEO of a gambling firm, who wins elections for guys like Coquitlam’s Mayor Stewart, who works 20-hour days to fight Occupy and keep BC strong? That one. Look, I’ll stop the trying to bloom roses on command dance but I couldn’t resist. G*d bless.

            • AGT says:

Running a company whose profit is a attached to the second most lucrative vice and managing the campaign of a shoo-in don’t strike me as particularly challenging tasks…certainly not ones I could live with.

              20 hour days? Um, sure…

          • tf says:

Your reply is why I read your blog Alex.
            Thank you.

              • chuckstraight says:

                Thank you as well.

              • "I'm as mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore...." says:

Me-thinks Josef LUSTS in his heart after Ms Mills…… Posters on the ceiling of his bedroom, yuk.

              • ROFLOL says:

Oh God- Josef and the technicolor dream coat. Just when I thought the meds were finally starting to work………
Josef – you really need to
                a) Find a dominant (American) woman that will fulfill your needs.
                b) Ask your doc to see if there are other things you can try. The presently used pharmaceuticals are throwing you eight back into a delusional state.
                c) Stop the stalking. It’s beyond creepy.
Kevin Falcon? Really? With the arrogance he oozes,(much like a festered hemorrhoid) NO.
Personally, I’m very impressed that you’ve fixed all the ills in your country and now offer your infinite expertise to ours. We are , to a citizen, truly humbled. Speaking on behalf of all British Columbians, we thank you for the roses blooming in November.

Isn’t it time to go do your paper route?

                • Smoking Halo says:

Kevin was never this arrogant. He used to be a really nice guy.

                  • darin says:

So disappointed with Kevin…. I was a solid backer of his for many years. However, with the HST BS he has peddled etc,, he has become the politician I dislike. Too bad…I thought he would have made a good Premier, but I cannot trust what he says anymore…too mcuh spin from him has made me too dizzy with disgust.

                  • ROFLOL says:

Somebody must be pissing on his cornflakes before breakfast because he’s coming off as a cross between an arrogant prick and a child whining about the chocolate bars at the checkout stand with those idiotic HST comments. I guess seeing that giant iceberg looming large in front of the bow makes one a little testy.

          • Gary says:

Damn, thank you Alex. This constant shilling for this Alise Mills by this guy wore thin on me long ago, shortly after he tried to convince us the HST was good for us – cause Alise said so on NW. Josef, please sober up before you venture into what must be uncharted territory for you – common sense.

            • AGT says:

Joe’s a good guy, he just doesn’t compute the BC Libs corruption very well. A lot of people are like that. It’s okay, but the uncontainable drivel about Alise Mills is PAINFUL. She’s not ever going to be Premier, she’s not ever going to do more than what she’s doing now. A very fine woman, bright enough and certainly articulate enough, but her excuse making for a completely corrupt government is unbelievable nonsense. she’s only a moderately good commentator. Memorizing party speaking notes puts her about only three notches above the insufferable Leslie Boldt. Where do they find these people?! AGH!

  21. Lee says:

Maybe Christy and her band of fools are just keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that the BC Con’s will be raptured before the next election.

    • Gary says:

Nah, it’s common knowledge. The world will end on Dec 21, 2012. BC Barbie is counting on that. Look, a gal can make a mistake…A gal can make two mistakes…A gal can make three…87 mistakes. OK time for a lesson for all you non – believers. Christy calls England .. And the winner is …

      • Smoking Halo says:

Christy’s phone call to England went unanswered. They kept her on hold for two hours with the message “Please stay on the line, your call is very important to us!”

  22. P Lehry says:

    Hi Alex,

What do you think of Surrey Fleetwood? Surrey-Tynehead? Any chance the NDP will win these or BC Conservatives. I think for the most part NDP will hold onto Fleetwood where NDP won last time by about 2000 votes, and in Tynehead Liberals won by just over a 1000 votes or so over NDP.

    What do you think Alex?

  23. Observer says:

Don’t like repeating myself and want Christy gone, preferably straight to the slammer, but I don’t see any party or politician reclaiming this province and returning it to its rightful owners. It’s been run so far by arrogant and corrupt bureaucracy and, at the political level, incompetent and even more corrupt cleptocracy.

    • AGT says:

Give me your address and I’ll send you some glasses.

I see her and the BC Libs gone, gone, gone….and it will happen.

Her before the party most likely. I know you’re a good guy and want justice. These things tale a little time. Trust me.

      • Observer says:

I meant next election. Neither the Conservatives not the NDP seems to be able to do the cleaning job properly if elected (IMHO).

        • AGT says:

Oh, I’ll readily agree with that.

No provincial alternative seems ready for prime time. Neither the Tories or NDP appear capable at the moment.

That could change. And I could grow a single horn in the middle of my forehead and turn into a unicorn….

          • The High Commisioner of the Office of the Smoking Halo says:

Now do you think if Kevin Falcon or George Abbott had won the Liberal leadership race, the party would be in this much trouble? Both of them have more brain cells in their hypothalamus than the Prom Queen has in her whole brain.

            • Gary says:

Kevin Falcon should be kept on a short lease and medicated at all times. His petulance at losing the leadership is the single most driving factor for the HST remaining his preferred method of assuring this government will fall. He’d see the taxpayers drown before he would permit any but his vision to succeed . George Abbott was most likely the best hope we had for a steady hand at the wheel. That slow, measured approach he favors could have saved this province from a lot of the grief we see today

              • Smoking Halo says:

Yeah, I agree. I worked on Kevin’s campaign and was quite shocked at his reaction to not winning.

However, at least he had open bar at his afterparty. Snooki had the nerve to charge $6 for an MGD! People remember that kind of small stuff, you know.

  24. harry lawson says:

the question that comes to my mind is who is going to be the first to leave caucus and sit with the bc consevatves?

she is also in no position to impose discpline.

she is now a lame duck leader as well as an unelected dictator

    • The High Commisioner of the Office of the Smoking Halo says:

I would have thought Bill Bennett buuuuuut……

I’m going to go with Moira Stilwell or Margaret McDiarmid.

      • Robbie says:

BC Conservatives should refuse any and all attempts at a floor cross, be they cross dressers or BC Rail crossing guards. While the BC Conservatives may not be quite ready for prime time at this point, why on earth would they sully themselves with BC Liberal toxic waste? It is best to turn the page, and start anew. Certainly BC must have at least 85 eminently qualified individuals who do not carry the lingering scent of sulphur upon their garments that can run for office. Surely they can recruit fiscally responsible candidates who can read a balance sheet and put the province’s needs before their own.

  25. Shell says:

Alex, “Chrispy Crotch” isn’t worried about any of these polls predicting “Lieberal” armagedon.

She’s done her own research, she has her own polling methods, she has her own math, she’s convinced she’ll win.

Have a look at her calculation methods in the links below… not too far from the truth.

  26. Alexander says:

Christy Clark , broke down in tears today, while in a press conference announcing drinking driving stats ???, sweet Jesus save us all !!!, Alex you gota comment on this one !!!!, this is unbelievable, she is running this province like she is back in grade 10 drama @ Burnaby South Secondary.

      • Bob says:

Alexander, good catch. My thoughts exactly!

        • rdk says:

Christy wept…. that line’s already been used.
Maybe anticipating a crucifixion (but no resurrection?)

        • Anonymister says:

Add me to the list of those who heard this disgusting drivel. It’s one thing to take credit for someone else’s achievements as Christy Clark is fond of doing, but to use a small child’s death to advance your political standing is morally repugnant in the extreme. Are we a third-world country run by a tinpot dictator? Why would the media cover this?

          • AGT says:

Dianne Watts was the first and only politician to get behind Alexa’s Bus from the beginning.

My family was one of the first donors to such a worthy cause.

            • Smoking Halo says:

              YAY Dianne Watts!

Now as for Alexa’s mother…. I know everyone handles grief differently. But it almost seems as if she’s using this incident to garner attention for herself. I bumped into her not two months after Alexa’s death at an emergency opthamologist appointment and you never would have guesses she just lost her kid. She was perkier than Snooki’s push up bra that day.

              • AGT says:

Okay settle down. People deal with grief differently. She’s a first class person who deeply misses her daughter.

                • Smoking Halo says:

It just didn’t make any sense to me. Here’s this woman being a Chatty Cathy to me in the waiting room and it dawned on me who she was.

Having worked for BC Coroners dealing with distressed people coming to identify their loved ones, it was just…..odd, I guess. I’ve heard so many people say they wouldn’t be able to go on with life if they lost a child. Something that I can’t relate to, being childless, but I can see where they’re coming from.

I will give her this, she had far more class and composure on the news than Snooki did.

            • james says:

I also notice that Diane Watts has stayed out of provincial politics at this time. I wonder why that would be? Talk about a smart cookie.

  27. Ron Churchill says:

Alex, there is far too much glee about CC’s misadventures and the BCLP poor showing. The alternatives are either the NDP or perhaps the BC Conservative party. I remember the decade of Mike Harcourt and Glen Clark. I don’t want to go back there either.

This blog site is filled with spite and animus that does not look very far ahead. Let’s agree that the Liberals blew it on bringing in the HST. Let’s agree that there are very scary possibilities surrounding the Basi-Virk guilty plea and the BC Rail deal. Maybe we will have to go through a period of NDP rule, but I hope to hell that all the gleeful posters to this site have their mortgages paid off, good jobs and money in the bank because they will need it. Vanderzalm can sit back and smile about what he has done. Is that the gleeful tent where the rest of you really want to be?

All over the world we are seeing a complete failure of the political class to just do their job. Greece and Italy are being run by technocrats because those who were elected have been so gutless and self serving. Vancouver and Burnaby have hard NDP councils running the show for the next three years – in the case of Burnaby elected by a mere 23% of the eligible voters.

    Hard times coming.

    • Gary says:

Tee hee hee. Now you’re making me giggle. I suspect there’s a few more like me. Folks that would prefer my government make honest mistakes and learns from them as opposed to a government that steals not only from me, but from my children – hell why stop there – let’s screw those disadvantaged out of a decent life, after all seniors had all those good years , right ? Your comment offends me, as do you. NDP rule you say, OK I’ll let you in on a secret, shhhh, don’t tell anybody, Even the local media pundits are leaning this way. Enough is exactly that…..

      • Gary says:

Misadventures, are you kidding me. Do you have the sense to pull your hand from the flame ? You cite Mike Harcourt and Glen Clark as examples of NDP rule. C’mon man, the NDP left a budget surplus that your CC – and predecessor misadventures used as a down payment for outright criminal behavior, and it continues. Don’t try and use foreign circumstances to justify the stance that this mob ‘ ain’t all that bad ‘. Collect your marbles and go back to the blogs that welcome that thinking.

    • Glenn says:

      “Hard times coming.

Especially when the people of this province have to start paying for the
mismanagement of this province over the last ten years.

    • Ian Fromme-Nelson says:

      “Hard times coming.”

      Yeah, for the BC Lieberals….

    • Splendor Sine Occasu says:

The BC Liberals are neither conservative or pro free-enterprise. They are neo-liberal corporatists, selling the state to their friends.

    • james says:

The dippers still have to deal with public opinion here. It’s pretty evident that there’s no appetite for tax increases in this province so I’d say we’re safe from that. I doubt we’d see a return to the corporate capital tax regime or other such silliness.

Personally I don’t think a dipper government will last too long before a new party rises from the Liberal ashes. I tell you right now I’ll be there to help out that new party.

      • AGT says:

I agree. Lots of people will and all the idiots who ruined this one won’t be welcome, I assure you.

The NDP will be too big a risk if they don’t start making some overtures to business, particularly small business–who will get hurt first if they roll back the last three tax breaks. One, I can understand, three, will cripple thousands and grind the economy to a halt.

      • Norm Farrell says:

Apparently Liberals have an appetite for levy increases if not tax increases. (Is there a difference?). Of course we have the obvious ones like carbon taxes, which schools pay, but the latest is imposition of fees under the “Small appliance recycling program.”

So now we pay an extra recycling tax when we buy such things as hair dryers, clocks, vacuum cleaners, toasters, bathroom scales, etc. etc.

My favourite is the 25 cents on “very small items”, like air fresheners. That’s unfair because, with this government stinking out the province, we need air fresheners urgently.

Hard times coming… out of touch! Hard times have been here since 2008, not going to see much of a turn around until 2017 and it will not be until 2025 before the economy is back to 2006 levels. And for British Colombia most likely not going to happen.

Looting ever crown corporation, and government program, so as to be able to, waste over 10 billion dollars on a public AD campaign, a 17 day party for the scum of humanity, all in an effort to simply sell BC as the worlds number one Funk Hole for criminals has made things that much harder.

Also, the NDP should RUN away from Joe Trasolini. After all, as a TransLink director, he voted to give his own construction company a maintenance contract to rebuild the Coquitlam bus loop. He quickly resigned as director once his hand was caught in the cookie jar. Plus, he seems to have assembled a nice package of properties along the Evergreen Line. There’s more rot there if you know where to look…

We busy ourselves with the daily cacaphony of our lives……and the under funded municipal, provincial, federal govt employee pension plan deficits keep growing while the taxpayer sleeps……
NDP to the rescue? Think again. For all the govt employees out there that think their pensions are iron clad, garunteed and safe….
Atlanta Georgia has declaired “Chapter 11″ to protect themsleves from their creditors.
#1 creditor on the list….? Govt employee pensioners.
It only the beginning. The “silver Tsunami” of retiring boomers is going to crush budgets everywhere. For example, Ontario Teachers pension plan is $1.7 Billion in the red last year…. and its getting worse.

Sorry for the “off topic” segway here Alex but the vision of a “White Knight” of the NDP riding to our rescue makes me shudder almost as much as the corruption currently in public office.

I think Ron Churchill has a point or two buried in the above post. Vitriol on blog sites is a decent way of getting our frustrations out, but will not solve the problems we face. I agree that the failure of politicians to look past the next tree leads us into a dark forest. That applies worldwide when it comes to the various economies and the wide-ranging social fabric which sustains us.

Left, right or indifferent, we need to be engaged. We need to hold Government and opposition accountable. We need to hold Media accountable. (Am I being falsely nostlgic when I recall the phrase “Ministerial Accountability”. I no longer see it at the Provincial OR the Federal level.)

Creative solutions come only through reasonable compromise.

None if the parties appear prepared to deliver in that. Talk is truly cheap–very.

So, people are frustrated and express themselves in raw, unrestrained terms. That’s not exclusive to blogs. You do that when your spouse has been on tear; when you stub your toe; when you forgot to put out the water bottles for pick up; when you find out your job may be up for elimination.

Human beings, healthy ones, were made to express their emotions.

Burnaby was listed just recently as one of the top three best run cities in B.C. and also with a good contingency fund. How is that bad? It seems Derek Corrigan and his crew are doing a good job. I voted for them again because of this info. and because of some of the positions he has taken. I dread the day when he retires or loses.

Yet again another example of a NDP/or/ndp leaning group can and do great things.

I am not betting against Dix and the NDP in the next election. And any independent and objective look at the NDP record since Barrett’s reign shows that it stands up to any of the BC liberals reigns.

TIME TO WIPE THE BC LIEBERASL OUT. Give Dix a chance.

  34. Hopeful Citizen says:

I couldn’t agree more! Professionalism too often means being so polite and politically correct that people end up checking their passion, purpose, and humanity at the door. Nothing is ever accomplished in this way in a workplace, organization, politics, or society. I’m not suggesting being adversarial all the time but watching university-educated or other accomplished professionals going in circles rather than speaking or writing truth in a culture of compliance and fear is so dispiriting. After a decade’s wait, to read a windy Palmer article that almost alludes to the truth Alex documented months ago is such an insult or the ultimate statement on how strapped and slapped journalists must be by their emoyer. How sad that corporate editorial guidelines and pro-government bias trump journalistic talent and integrity. (I know of a former local reporter whose stories had to be re-written if they weren’t pro-govt/Olympics and anti-union; I’m sure this is the tip of the iceberg with layers of other vested interests that I’m not aware of).

  35. Parzone says:

    Hi Alex,

With the musings of the BC liberal caucus directed at CC and their seemingly impossible plight in the next election, I read this in the Nanaimo News Bulletin today (nov.24, 2011),

    Teen voter registration targeted

    Snip

Archer said current BC election laws does not allow anything other than paper-based voting at the Provincial level.

Bond said on line voting was a commitment of Premier Christy Clark’s leadership campaign, and she intends to appoint an expert panel shortly to make recommendations.

“We have to make sure that it’s safe and secure, and people have been worried about that,” bond said.
    ——

Is this only option left to the corrupt BC liberals?

We know by their actions Archer, Clark, Bond, Heed and probably the rest of the BC liberal caucus find that cheating in an election is OK even when you get caught.

Otherwise they would have spoken out and done something!!

Speaking of elections, what ever happened to the long delayed breakdown of CC’s bi-election results?

First there was an odd three-month delay in the release of the information until sept. of this year and now it’s almost Dec., still nothing.

    Why?

    • WHITEROCKJ says:

      “Teen voter registration targeted”

you need to read between the lines here. this is an end run around the recall and initiative act. this is how the liberals plan on making it completely impossible for there to ever be a succesful recall or initiative again.

the plan is to sign up thousands of high scholl students… and hey as a high school student if your offered a half hour to skip class and go hang out with your friends in a line to sign up for something …. why not.

the problem is that once these thousands of voters in every riding are registered… elections bc DOES NOT REMOVE THEM OR UPDATE THE LIST… unless the person voluntarily updates their information.this will put hundreds if not thousands of people on the voting list that most likely want nothing to do with elections, and many who just wont care.

as the recall and initiative act is all based on percentages of registered voters in a riding, this means that what is allready an almost impossible task now becomes completely unworkable.

its amazing to me that no one has said anything about this yet.

Good on him for resigning. Atleast his new gig will be at a very well respected company.

  38. nonconfidencevote says:

    Who’s next ?

  39. Steve says:

The title of your post seems to imply that this group of political geniuses just figured out that they are in trouble and won’t win the next election. If Christy Clark see’s the knives coming, what’s to stop her from calling a snap election and making them go into an election with her as leader anyways? I can’t imagine she would want to go down in history as the first party leader crowned and then dumped before being able to lead their party into an election. ( or at least the first I can recall )

    • AGT says:

In the likely outcome that she loses, she will need a job. She can’t go back to NW considering the nasty manner with which she’s treated them (they’re very upset at her), so she’ll need to find a job in the private sector.

There isn’t a single business in this province that would forgive her for dumping the NDP into their lap in a snap election. If she’s got enough tucked away and can wait for Joyce Murray to be pushed out, then she’ll need their money–and again, she will refrain from calling a snap election. Besides, her ego is far too fragile to take the hit of such a huge loss, that’s clearly on the way.

And the title doesn’t actually imply that the looming Liberal loss is a sudden revelation. It simply states how two MLA’s see losses for their party, but one who claims to have analyzed it in detail (Pimm) doesn’t understand how low the BC Libs are and yet the other (Hayer) who hasn’t done any review gets it: the BC Libs will be decimated with Christy Clark.

  40. Paul Barriscale says:

    Alex,

With 18 percent support for the Conservatives, people might be saying following the next provincial election: “Christy has died, Christy has not risen, Christy will not come again.”

    • AGT says:

      It certainly seems that way.

      • gregory says:

I am still not impressed by Cummins. I heard his comments this morning about the two ridings that are up for re-election being too “out of the way” for him to run in them. Huh? I can understand Chilliwack but Port Moody?

If he was a true political animal (and that is what the Conservatives need) you would think the guy would smell blood, pounce on it and try to get into the leg as a Conservative before the next election.

From the way he is acting I get the feeling he is running on a half tank full of gas and wants to stay close to his Lazy-boy. What the Conservatives need as a leader is a Conservative Gordon Wilson and I don’t see John Cummins being anywhere near that and as a matter of fact he strikes me as the opposite.

        • AGT says:

Very bad messaging on John’s part. He spoke so well last night at Rafe’s roast and was a hit with the populist crowd, but his comments on this other stuff is bollocks.

Christy made Voice of BC: http://vimeo.com/32672848

    Your review please…

    • AGT says:

Further evidence that there is a problem with the mainstream press when the obvious questions about John Doyle’s investigation of the Basi-Virk settlement are glossed over….when the question came up over Cummins running in her by-election Vaughn of all bloody people couldn’t bring himself to state the obvious: had Cummins or anyone of the BC Conservatives run, David Eby would currently hold the goddamned seat!

Soft balls abounded throughout the interview and he let her go on no shortage of deflections. How many times can she say, “Well, I don’t have an answer for you on that today…” or “We’re working on it…” before a responsible member of the press corps would have taken her to task.

      Palmer: 4/10
      Clark: 1/10

      • Josef says:

Yeah, CC’s in trouble. So much she finally does Voice of BC.

The thought of MLA David Eby is enough to make me cringe. He seems to get his joy out of the suffering of others and causing hassles to the pol-ice.

Cummins should run in one of these byelections and if he is serious, get a seat in The House. If he’s not, then for BC’s sake the BCLibs really, truly need to renew – and that means dealing w/ the BCLibPIN scandal, considering an inquiry into BCRail, funding CLBC completely and stop resting on past laurels with a leader who has demonstrated leadership skills & business acumen under fire.

Finally, on the subject and not naming names a Falcon organizer reached out to me the other day to see if I’d support Falcon if he put his hand up very soon. I said I felt I was morally obliged after the crap that happened last time…

  42. motorcycleguy says:

soft balls, not softballs…..you got that right

  43. SO says:

Bit late but I’m hearing murmurs about Cummins having gotten Strahl to run for Penner’s old seat. If true hes pretty much a shoe in, and will help shore up support amongst federal conservative voters
