(UPDATED–Contract Rescinded!) Christy Clark’s Bridesmaid Now In a Double Government Income Home: Athana’s Hubby Gets It’s Greek-style

113

You have to hand it to Premier Clark. She really knows how to take care of her friends.

Fleece the taxpayer.

It’s as if she and her posse of dimwitted hangers on, resume advancement tramps and outright profiteers have never heard of the proud little country of Greece. You see, the Greeks sank their economy largely on what’s referred to colloquially in every ‘cafenio’ (Greek for ‘cafe bar’) by every lazy, handout-demanding lout, as the ‘Koubaro’ system. This is the process by which you become and then remain employed by the government, either through friendship or direct relation, for as long as that friend or relation is “in power.” In return, all you have to do is offer steadfast, deferential support whenever necessary–often on demand, as said relation “in charge” acts like a complete jackass.

Your employment is guaranteed–and if you’re really nice, they’ll hire your husband to an untendered contract.

This is beyond belief…

Athana Mentzelopoulos, Ms. Clark’s favorite and most effective operative, now lives in a double government income household. Her husband, Stewart Muir, a former Erik Bornmann mega-dinner companion, pal and the former editor of the Vancouver Sun business pages, is the lucky beneficiary of a whopping, honking, ginormous, UNTENDERED, $181,000 contract, with a one year guarantee.

Let’s note again for those in class who are still reeling by the open windows from such a shameless patronage stink bomb, that this is an UNTENDERED contract to the husband of one of the Premier’s top aides! No bid, no tender, nothing.

The government are using the excuse that the”immediate necessity” clause, which the powers that be relied on to get this plan hatched, allowed for the singular, incredible, tall building-leaping talents of Mr. Muir.

Pathetic. No conflict of interest with his wife in the Preem’s bailiwick, nope, nothing here folks, please move along….

And look who’s entered the fray! Mike de Jong, the man the Premier privately refers to as her “real” Deputy Premier. He’s the Minister of Health, whose ministry is Mr. Muir’s new employer. Are you seated? de Jong, who just spent every day for TWO WEEKS with the Premier, claims that he knows nothing about it and when the details are delivered to him; when he’s informed of any possible impropriety, he will want to know “why.”

That’s it meathead?! All you want to know is why?????

Isn’t that lovely? de Jong, who likes to play like he’s G.I Joe with the Kung Fu grip–but is really about as tough as a milk-soaked biscuit, didn’t say he’d do what he should do, which is IMMEDIATELY FIRE Stewart Muir. de Jong didn’t even say he’d go to the Premier and ask how this could have possibly happened. No method acting this time. He didn’t offer any of that. Though, just as he did on the ‘Basi-Virk’ settlement, he deflected by claiming he knew nothing about anything and it was bureaucrats that sealed any deal(s).

Well then why the hell is this guy a Minister? Why is this ignoramus in Cabinet at all? He’s a joke! In any Ministry de Jong’s run, he apparently knows nothing of the most controversial of deals and when informed of them, does nothing to either protect or, frankly, tell the truth to the unsuspecting taxpayer.

What a sham artist de Jong is!

The real joke here is that we are expected to believe that this wasn’t at all discussed between one of the Premier’s top aides and the Premier, and that she didn’t mention a word to de Jong.

Let’s see if the mainstream press will do their job and APPROPRIATELY SKEWER the government for this shameful hiring. I don’t care if Mr. Muir is qualified or not. The hiring was offside and he should be fired immediately.

Stewart Muir joins the long line of ‘BC Rail major and minor players to be brought back into government by Premier Clark. Coincidence? You be the judge.

________________________________

Three things:

• Remember some weeks back when I noted that a prominent member of the Premier’s staff wanted to sue me but was talked down off the ledge? I’m told that was the Divine Ms. Mentzelopoulos, who, according to certain members of caucus, still maintains the comportment of a cactus. She’s royally upset at this post. Well, make my day, Athana. Because I’ve got more from the BC Rail/’Basi-Virk’ file that I’ll happily dump onto this blog and then into open court.

Go ahead, make my day…

• HUGE JEERS to Deputy Premier (in title only) Kevin Falcon. His IDIOTIC comments in the legislature about the HST taking longer to remove than expected, were not only disgusting, but ASININE. Instead of giving us specifics, he acts like a first class JERK. Democracy dictates that he get his ass in gear and remove this undemocratic tax that hurts the most vulnerable in BC or tells us what’s taking so long. We’ve earned that right Kevin. Ill-considered comments like Falcon’s contributed to his leadership loss. He still doesn’t get it. Pity. Whining children don’t make good premiers.

• You’ll notice there’s a new sheriff in town. Premier Clark has shown up with her (empty) six shooter–although I’d give up about a month’s income to play ‘Pin the Badge On the Sheriff’, Hey varmints, shee’s a gonna git aftr dem smelly protestin types, ya heur? Never mind Caribou Barbie, she’s Dubya in a skirt! Problem being, that she made the same tough-talking, talk show honed quip about the riot louts and we’re still waiting for some justice after the first scumbag got off with not even a slap on the wrist.

I can’t believe the low budget people we’ve elected as government in this province over the last ten years.

C’mon Christy, do what you like doing best–I’ll give you another hundred for three more songs, but the heels stay on….

FROM THE FRESH SHEET! CONTRACT RESCINDED!

Vancouver Island Health Authority President Howard Waldner tells the incomparable Times-Colonist that Mr. Muir is now unemployed again.

He also tells us that there was no interference from Ms. Mentzelopoulos, the high-powered Clark staffer–but what about anyone else at VIHA? So Ms. M wasn’t involved (she’s too sharp for that, trust me) then what about anybody else acting on the Premier’s order? Here apparatichiks? These are fair questions.

Mr. Waldner also tells us that Mr. Muir is a super-qualified chap–but we know that already, for Christ’s sake. His resume speaks for itself. So why then didn’t Mr. Waldner not notice that Mr. Muir was married to the Preem’s numero uno mandarin? This NEVER came up? Stewart Muir is immensely qualified for such a post but what does it say about his understanding of ethics that he got a untendered plum editing the riot whitewash and then receives yet another untendered plum with VIHA???

Just good fortune, I’m sure. My bad.

Ah, c’mon fellas, somebody fess up.

And Stewart, you should go by some 6/49 tix, pal. You’re one lucky guy….

What an absurd mess. For shame.

  1. Seymour Forest says:

Not anymore. The job order has been rescinded. Shortest term of a job I’ve seen. Does he qualify for EI after working for the health authority?

  2. Lance says:

    Family First….. Her family!

There are not even words at this point that can truly convey the disgust and utter sense of hopelessness as I watch our Province looted at the hands of these parasites.

  3. bewlay says:

    The deal is cancelled…

  4. Lew says:

The Vancouver Island Health Authority has now cancelled the contract “upon reflection”. Those involved should look in the mirror and see if they’re proud of that reflection.

It’s telling that the government pays more for spin doctors than medical doctors.

  5. froth says:

The “gifted” contract may have been cancelled, but the way this contract came about is still fair game for the Media to rake de Jong and the preemie premier over the coals.

  6. harry lawson says:

the only excuses for using the immediate necessity clause with christy clak is

    1/ will not win election
2/ the hand cuffs are comming

every day i think she cannot get any lower and she does

  7. Martin says:

It’s odd how the “outside noise” on this one actually did something positive. Five bucks says Mr. Muir still ends up getting the job, only this time after the sham tendering process that should have happened the first time.

F*ck the Liberals…the next Provincial election can’t happen soon enough!!!

  8. What’s really shocking here is that this is not the first time someone with connections has been given a high paid position that created an uproar. Problem is that we still have some highly paid so called professionals making really stupid mistakes. It also amazes me how people complain about union worker salaries and yet no one complains (much) with a VP of communications at $160,000 a year. And finally, Mr. Waldner is quoted as saying they tried to hire locally but ” it’s a small town”. Then maybe we should start paying wages accordingly.

  9. Bruce says:

Alex I was reading just now that our moronic premier is going to announce a Auditor for the Municipal Goverments at SFU. If that is true I would find it astonishing that she would have the gall to show her face up there, after cheating in a election for the Student council, and getting caught, then rerunning and getting trounced. I often wonder if she was a twin because she is too F$#king stupid for one person. I also read that she is planning a snap election in the spring. After basking in the glow of her Asian trip. Cheers Bruce

  10. gasp says:

Isn’t this just par for the course with this liberal government? This Premier certainly learned from the master, Jean Chretien, how to keep all the skeletons in the closet through the taxpayer-funded reward system of government contracts and employment.

On another issue, twice I’ve heard people comment on the radio that Christy Clark’s senior people were working on the Robertson/Vision election campaign. Do you know if this was the case?

      • gasp says:

Why would they support Robertson? I thought they were in NPA/Suzanne Anton camp, not the NDP camp!.

And if both the Liberals and NDP support Robertson, are all three in bed together?

        • AGT says:

The Clark Liberals are the left wing Liberals for the most part.

The believe in the myth of anthropogenic global warming alarmism. They believe the sky is falling.

          • Fonzo says:

“They believe the sky is falling.”

They believe we are *making* the sky fall with our evil vehicles, lol.

Alex – what do you think that this latest fiasco says about Crusty’s current impotence as leader? Forgive me if my cynicism is showing, but I can’t help but think that a stronger, more feared and respected leader would have pulled this larceny off without making a ripple; let alone getting stuffed at the rim with extreme prejudice on national TV. I think she’s beyond over; ready for freddy…

  11. Jack says:

ALL government branches have Standard Operating Procedures. They are, in fact, written in stone. I wonder if it’s possible the “tendering process” S.O.P.s have been rewritten and the new ones say: “Award contracts to Premier’s friends UNLESS you get caught, then sanctimoniously claim a do-over, “in the interests of transparency.”

Funny how Chrispy’s “new rules” are so damn much like Gordo’s “Old Rules” !

I say again: “Corruption breeds best in the dark.”

    The Thought of The Day

“Vladimir Ilych Lenin must be turning in his grave (finally). He must be asking himself “Where did I go wrong, where, where? This was supposed to be happening in … my Society, not in Christy’s!”

    Chilly out there today.
It turns out that the only honest people in Vancouver are the VAG Occupiers. At least they don’t steal, rob, or rip you off. Not on purpose, that is, they might be hungry, cold, disoriented, jobless, it’s hard down there at the bottom.
    I respect that.

Of course, now that Mayor Gregor and his Vision gang are safely back at the trough they wanted them removed as they don’t fit into their agenda of good deeds and compassion, not anymore, maybe in three years.

Christy takes care of family. Now Alex, to her defense, i have to say, she, Christy really promised that at the beginning of her tenure, she promised she will take care of the Family!
    That’s what she’s doing now.

I even heard she wants to bring back the Commoner’s Five O’clock Tea…

Lay back, take five, close your eyes and imagine Christy Clark dusting around your study, and singing this to you…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0zc7x434Aw

    “Tea For Two,
    And Two For Tea,
    Job For You,
    You Vote For Me!

You would forgive her for a spill or two now, wouldn’t you?

    “A Boy for Youuu…
    And A Girl for Meee…”

Dunno about you Alex. If she looks me in the eye… I’m buying it! :\

We live in Vancouver and this is not happening!

  14. ROFLOL says:

I cannot understand what happens when these fools get in power. And not just the present idiots – Dave Zirnhelt -” We can do anything we want. We’re the government” Line up my friends! Bestest buddies to the front , but don’t worry there’s lots of slop in the trough.
Falcon’s sneer is nothing I didn’t expect ( see last weeks post to JosK), pompous, arrogant and lacking any kind of grace in defeat, it shows what a small man he us.What an asshole. But tossing a big bone to the Stepford Sisters unemployed hubby is so stunning, I just want to retch in disgust. They canceled it, but what other filth are they sweeping under the rug?
It defies logic that they continue to ram it up the citizens wazoo – look at he smart meters (and whose on the money end of that stinking pile of horse emissions. What freaking part of UNWANTED and UNNEEDED is hard to understand? Profits to pals….
I wouldn’t use the word corrupt lightly, but ……

  15. chuckstraight says:

I saw our “Premier” on CTV news- she claims she had nothing to do with it.

  16. Bob says:

Another sad example of how the Vancouver news media have become just as thoroughly corrupt as the provincial government. The two have conspired for years to keep the lid on the BC Rail scandal. In this case, the Sun runs a couple of benign stories about the appointment followed by the rescinding of it without any serious questioning. I doubt we’ll even see an editorial condemning the obvious.

  17. Joe S says:

I don’t think it’s such a small town as Mr.Waldner states,it’s that Christie is running out of Liberal Hacks to hire.

  18. Jack says:

Chrispy Crunch as seen on Global tonight: “I had no involvement.”

Hmmmmm. Why on earth does THAT sound so familiar ? Relax gang, no prompting, it’ll come to me.
    j

  19. SB says:

VIHA has been an absolute mess from day 1 of Liberals taking power , Campbell set out to get unions who supported NDP and pay his friends resulting in dirty unhealthy hospitals lack of services overcrowding lawsuits he lost and then we need a PR hack to spew PAB spin no doubt it was a cancelled contract just like Liberals will be cancelled as soon as we get to vote which cant come soon enough.

    • AGT says:

Yeah, I think if she goes sooner as opposed to later, she’s done–but then if she waits, she’s finished anyway as she’ll be pushed out.

    • Smoking Halo says:

Y’know, I totally get the hate-on for unions. Some of them really serve no purpose and have too much power. That’s my main beef with the NDP… they have a “go union or go home” mentality.

      • AGT says:

I agree, that’s a big problem. What over-the-top union promo.

        • Smoking Halo says:

Last NDP gathering I was at, I was actually shocked at the number of people wearing shirts representing their unions. CAW, BCGEU etc.

One of the guys at my table was horrified I was working at a non-union dealer. Buddy, I got news for ya…. I worked at a place that was Teamsters. It SUCKED. Big time. And the Teamsters sure let me down right after WorkSafe bent me over and gave me a good one over a car addicent on company time.

  20. stan35 says:

if you go to the Van Sun or Province online papers, you won’t find this story anywhere right now; at least I couldn’t find it. Other less significant stories that were on earlier today are there, but this was quickly buried, replaced with stuff like “exotic animals”, a “grizzly story” that sort of thing. I think the comments about Clark and the government were too much.

    • AGT says:

I know, I noticed the same thing. It seems you must complain bitterly. When dozens upon dozens of my readers had complained to me that the posts I’d done about the Basi-Virk deal were being deleted from columns by various writers of the Sun and Province, I called both newsrooms to complain. It stopped for awhile and then started again. Remarkable that they have any readers left.

  21. TrueNorthist says:

A little off topic here Alex… But it will be interesting to see if “Premier” Clark will have a change of heart on the global warming front now that there is ample proof of the fraud?

    http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/11/22/climategate-2-0/

The other shoe just dropped. This will be the end of the fraud of anthropogenic global warming.

  22. Norm Farrell says:

de Jong didn’t know. Why wasn’t he told? He didn’t ask. Because he didn’t need to know…. and once you know, you can’t say you didn’t know…

This little skit from BBC’s Now Show could have been written for the Gordon Campbell/Christy Clark government:

    http://northerninsights.blogspot.com/2011/11/yes-minister-bc-edition.html

    • AGT says:

      CLASSIC! I LOVE IT!!!!!

    • Glissando Remmy says:

Glissando Remmy said… Thanks Norm, that was lovely. This is the comment I left, and I also bookmarked the blog for reference. Will go back as often as possible, cheers!

      The Thought of The Night

“I’m really glad I came across this little skit, as a matter of fact I’m pretty sure, subconsciously I don’t want to know I know about it, there being a possibility for me to say something inappropriate to one unnamed Premier, that doesn’t really need to know, that I know that this little skit exists…”

Thanks, that “Yes, Minister” was a lovely piece of comedy/ satire.

We live in Vancouver and this keeps us busy.

  23. Josef says:

Sure explains a lot Alex. I know a guy who just magically went from the CC for BC campaign to be one of de Jong’s aides. Just like… magic.

Gotta tell ya too the fact Alise Mills – of all people – is sitting on the outside sure is now explained. It’s also becoming pretty damn odious how Kevin the Falcon’s great policy ideas like helping the disabled & merit pay to are going nowhere fast or slow.. Him and I both share the same poli-crush and apparently the same temperment.

BTW, a nice fella reached out to me on Twitter. Really means a lot that people appreciate what I’m trying to do, especially when I felt flat & deflated after last Sunday.

    • AGT says:

You shouldn’t I didn’t hear it to be honest, but I’m not surprised. Just be a little more patient. Just a little more…

You’ll be hearing a lot more of me…and then we’ll see what the MSM will do.

  24. LOLA says:

I agree with you about Falcon, what a disgusting pr#ck, i think its impossible for this piece of garbage to talk without being rude and sarcastic. Shirley Bond is just as disgusting, a real bitch, i watched them on question period today, its no wonder people hate the liberals

    • AGT says:

I’ve known Kevin a long time. A SUPER nice guy who has clearly changed. I don’t know what;s possessed him. His comments about the reimplementation of the GST and PST, were absolutely offside–particularly for the Minister responsible. Shameful. I campaigned and voted against the HST. Am I stupid too Kevin?

The only people who are STUPID are those that cannot understand that the HST SCREWED the people in this province who need government the most. If that’s what government is about–screwing over our most vulnerable then it should be burned to the ground.

      • Jack says:

This government soooooo reminds me of the “old saying” about one rotten apple in a whole barrel of apples. The more we see, the more revelations are made regarding this government, the more I am startled, distressed and angry, that people who I KNEW, respected and trusted, have become “tainted” and over time have been shown to be “rotten and self-serving to the core”.
I thank you for your diligence and tenacity, traits that I have admired, mirrored in my own life and successfully taught to my children, HOWEVER, it is very tough to “thank you” for this ever-growing feeling of a loss of respect for people I counted as “friends”. :(

Oh hell! I’ll get over it by being a “crankier” old man !! :) Life is too short to cry over a-holes who can’t resist temptation !
        Thanks again, Alex.

  25. Mike Boileau says:

I have been the recipient of the “Contract Tendering Scam” that is legendary in BC. It goes like this:
“Wink, wink, nudge, nudge , hey buddy, dear friend and fellow Liberal. We are putting out a contract for tender and this is how you cash in”.
The contract will require certain provisions that are to be met. It will also have an “Optional Rate for hourly work not anticipated”. “You put your bid in low on all things but the “estimated 10 hours of extra hourly work”. Once you get the low bid, I will see to it that you receive 5,000 hours of unanticipated extras. Your hourly rate can be extremely high becuase the original bid only anticipated 10 hours of work”
Follow that logic and you will soon see how I, a welding contractor, was screwed out of a bid which the low bidder received at $98,000.00 but ended up being paid a pure profit of $500,000.00.
Watch for this contract to come up in the next little while and the only person with the qualifications will be you know who.

  26. Brian says:

I’m shocked CTV actually showed footage of Clark answering questions about the VIHA job:
    http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20111122/bc_stewart_muir_contract_cancelled_111122/20111122?hub=BritishColumbia

She seemed to get shiftly and then she shrugs and looks down to her left. I guess she has learned to avoid saying “Right…..right…right..right” when telling lies.

    • AGT says:

Frankly, CTV’s coverage on the issue is a joke. Yes, they went through the motions and pointed out the embarrassing mistakes, but where is Beatty’s legendary (oh, it is to laugh) hardnosed reporting on Clark. When he went with the wrong story before the leadership vote and “exonerated” her he’d flipping well lit his hair on fire!

What’s the matter Jimmy boy? Lost your mojo?

  30. Shell says:

In yesterdays’ comments section of your post entitled: “Christy Clark Declares Asian Trip ‘MISSION ACCOMPLISHED’: Haven’t We Heard This Before???” – I suggested perhaps there was confusion on what she meant by “mission accomplished” – maybe she was trying to report a “MISSING ACCOMPLICE”!

Well, I think you’ve found one of those missing rats for her today.

Just wait “Crispy Crotch”, in short order Alex will bag several dozen more MIA government & media rats for you, and there will be no more “MISSING ACCOMPLICES”!

  31. Zoltan says:

Why Why Why , does nobody in the Goverment know what is going on.

  32. Seymour Forest says:

Bpassing the usual entertraining tripe and gruel, there had to be emails going back and forth to set this coveted deal. It obviously was done in the dark (!), so one has to wonder.

Did hubby really really need a job? If so, at that level of pay this guy obviously knows more than how to correctly fold a pamphlet to go into an envelope. How exactly did he know about this particular posting?

    • AGT says:

Another great question I’ll be asking today.

      • Wayne in Victoria says:

Without a doubt Athana had to know about her husbands new job.

If she withheld this information from her close friend and boss Crispy, then she failed to disclose and should be fired.

More likely she had to have told Crispy, who is lying her face off again about knowing.

They really do think we are stupid.

        • AGT says:

Yes, which I find extraordinary. I don’t know you, but know you comment here and appear lucid and intelligent. But does it require a brain surgeon or rocket scientist to figure out what you’ve just provided????

Apparently, Vaughn Keith, Gary and Mike need a tutorial from you! None of the big four have banged down the government doors to get these answers. Not one of them.

          • Wayne in Victoria says:

            Thank-you

Kind words, just an average Joe who spends too much time on the internet. ;-)

Funny thing is, living in Victoria I cross paths with some of these characters on a regular basis. In a perverse kind of way I find it interesting standing next to Keith at the Fairfield Thrifty’s wondering if he cares about his reputation.

Bond and Falcon used to go to the same gym as me, close to the legislative. I stopped going, and no doubt they would need a police escort these days.

I saw Vaughn stumbling down the street last week downtown. As Waldner said, it is a small town!

  33. gini says:

Could you also look into why Global, on its 11 0′clock news last night, decided to run a clip of the NDP arguing Falcon’s HST ‘feet-dragging’ from 2 days ago, obviously trying to make it look like the NDP weren’t the least concerned about that untendered contract.

I intend to watch Question Period again today. It should be a good one!

    • AGT says:

No, I think you’re stretching there.

If they don’t cover a story, it means they don’t care about it. The NDP have nothing to do with it. Global has a MAJOR responsibility to cover this, but as I said, as long as Keith Baldrey is their Victoria Bureau Chief, strong, pertinent stories on the BC Liberals will simply fall away.

Nothing to report here folks, let’s just move along….

  34. Lew says:

If I hired my best friend to be my Deputy Minister of Corporate priorities and she didn’t tell me that her husband had been hired to a $181K untendered public contract I would be very miffed at both the professional and personal discourtesy shown by that person; allowing me to be cold-cocked publicly with the news.

    That’s if she didn’t tell me…..

  35. Len says:

I wonder why this govt’ continues with this horseshit,…could it be that their hero got away with it for a long time and got a real nice job from mr.Harper …high commissioner…scary…. the whole works should be in jail, instead they are laughing at us and rubbing our noses in it

  36. Martin says:

Michael Smyth gave Crusty a good skewering in this morning’s Province. I have a feeling he reached his word maximum for the column, because he’s clearly mad as hell, but doesn’t quite get to where he wants to be.

Maybe he wanted to include CLBC or maybe even BC Rail?

  37. Mark says:

    Alex,

Please read Sam Cooper’s article in the Province today re: VIHA’S arrogance once again rears it’s ugly head with Mike De Jong at the head once again. Abuse of seniors not having to be reported, are you F;d#$%^ing kidding me!!
    Election cannot come soon enough.
