Christy Clark Declares Asian Trip ‘MISSION ACCOMPLISHED’: Haven’t We Heard This Before???

71

Honestly, there are no words to describe the idiocy of not only Premier Clark but the dimwits who work for her.

If there was a phrase that was ridiculed more than any other during the Dubya years it was this one: ‘Mission Accomplished’. President Bush himself repudiated the usage of the banner as backdrop on the USS Abraham Lincoln. It was used for one of his more famous speeches and appearances.

But no, this is lost on the geniuses in the Premier’s Office. And for good reason. Read this first….

Behold.

Mission Accomplished
Premier's Jobs and Trade Mission strengthens Asian relations

VANCOUVER - Expanded relationships, business deals, agreements between
universities, and new office openings were highlighted today by Premier
Christy Clark as successes achieved during the BC Jobs and Trade Mission
to India and China.

"We set out on our jobs and trade mission to open doors, strengthen
existing relationships, and set the stage for future success in China
and India," said Premier Clark. "After being in Asia for nearly two
weeks with hundreds of representatives from business, education, and
cultural organizations, I can unequivocally state it was mission
accomplished."

During the BC Jobs and Trade Mission more than 60 business deals and
partnership agreements were signed or announced, while Premier Clark
Premier attended approximately 70 events and meetings with business and
political leaders.

One of these announcements was an agreement signed by Wavefront, the
Vancouver-based national wireless centre of excellence, with the
Cellular Operators Association of India to ease and speed up the flow of
wireless business between Canada.

"The Premier's mission has increased the awareness of B.C.'s thriving
wireless sector. Our announced agreement with COAI opens a great deal of
opportunity for the accelerated growth of Canadian wireless companies,"
commented James Maynard, Wavefront president and CEO. "India is the
second-largest wireless market in the world. Our agreement will enable
us to help Canadian companies effectively access and navigate this
complex and growing market."

Approximately 350 delegates, representing some 150 companies,
organizations, and community groups, participated on the BC Jobs and
Trade Mission, making it the largest international delegation in the
province's history.

"In Asia, developing relationships are keys to success - and this was
re-iterated while I was in China and India," added Premier Clark.
"Business does not happen between strangers, and in Asia it's vital to
demonstrate that companies and government are working together. This is
why our government is proud to work with organizations such as Wavefront
- to build these long-term and stable relationships that will lead to
jobs here at home in B.C."

Another agreement achieved during the mission was a Memorandum of
Understanding between Ballard Power Systems and Delta Power Solutions
(India) Pvt. Ltd. This MOU expands on the range of clean energy
applications under an existing fuel cell system collaboration agreement
by the companies, and builds on Ballard's recent sale of fuel cell
backup power systems with Delta.

"Our agreement with Delta, a market leader in India, provides a strong
beachhead for Ballard in that market," said John Sheridan, Ballad's
president and CEO. "Our clean fuel cell power solutions will deliver
strong value propositions to India customers in a variety of key
application areas."

As in years past, forestry delegates focused on selling more lumber to
China. During the BC Jobs and Trade Mission, forest companies sold
approximately 1.46 million cubic metres of lumber, 47 per cent more than
they did during a forestry-specific mission trade mission in November
2010.

"Although the specific portions vary by company, about a third of our
production is going to China, which means jobs in our mills, contractor
networks and in our communities," said Don Kayne, Canfor president and
CEO. "As Chinese uptake in wood frame construction occurs, the potential
for lumber demand is limitless."

Premier Clark left Vancouver for China on Nov. 4 and made stops in
Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. She arrived in India on Nov. 10 and
attended events in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Bangalore,
before returning to Vancouver on Nov. 18.

The BC Jobs and Trade Mission followed a commitment made in Canada
Starts Here: The BC Jobs Plan. The focus of the mission was to
strengthen existing relationships between B.C. and Asian markets,
opening doors for new relationships and setting the stage for future
opportunities in China and India.

A detailed list of the agreements reached and announcements will be
posted on the BC Jobs along with Premier Clark's Jobs and Trade Mission
itinerary by the end of November.

Notice anything, other than the poorly worded and non-proofread release? Who are the delegates? What SPECIFIC agreements were signed? What criteria were used to select (or qualify) companies or corporations for the trip? How is it that a ‘Memorandum of Agreement’ is now a “DEAL.”

When Gregor Robertson went to China, one of the companies that strangely ended up on the guest list was a company that Vision executive director Ian Baillie had a plum job with. When I called Baillie to inquire, he feel just short of putting down the phone and deflected the question seven times to Sunday. I released it to the media and not one of them followed up.

Well, here’s another–and this one you won’t read ANYWHERE else. Ballard Power Systems is a company, who employed Stephen Kukucha. Don’t remember him? He’s a long time federal Liberal from the same vintage–although not necessarily the same side as Christy Clark, Mark Marissen and Co, who is now the campaign chief for the next BC Liberal campaign. That’s right. Steve Kukucha, yet another prominent federal Liberal, wasn’t just one of Ballard’s top executives, he was their top GOVERNMENT RELATIONS contact. Does he still have anything to do with the company? Any outstanding shares? Did he intervene and encourage Ballard to be on the list? Did he encourage the government to scout and draft them for the trip? Why? What for? Well, I’ve left two messages for Steve, who I know very well, as we went to UBC together. No returned call as of yet but I’ll keep you posted.

And you can bet I’ll be going over this trip with a fine tooth comb because insiders are telling me that it was a “complete and total waste of time, where nothing of any substance or meaning was accomplished. She just traveled around smiling and wiggling and doing her thing that was it. de Jong shadowed her everywhere. And one of those agreements are even close to being hard but you can’t expect her to understand that. She was so out of her depth it was painful to watch.”

And I’d love to see the expense book.

Stay tuned.

Mission accomplished?!

Another David Berner moment of riotous laughter brought to you by, Premier Snooki, and the learning curve that won’t end.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, look, Christy’s got the power…..

“Premier attended approximately 70 events and meetings with business and political Leaders”

“approximately” They don’t know? No one knows?

Of course the entire statement is a bunch of rubbish.Do the math, 14 days, say 1 day off for rest, leaving SIX events and Meetings a day.

I’m calling them out. Perhaps Pamela Martin, Chris Olsen, or Alise Mills would like to Post the itinerary.

    Cheers

    • AGT says:

Exactly! I just can’t believe they expect us to believe this shite!

      • hawgwash says:

I’ll take Gary L’s observation one step further.
When you factor in a full days travel in each direction, the number of cities she “visited” (8) and the logistics of getting around them, I reckon those 70 “events” took place via hasty meals, Bhangra bumps and conference calls. But who cares, it’s more of the same, a waste of money and I am just using it as a lead-in to another piece of pork.

        BC Mary said:
“Stewart Muir, a former Vancouver Sun editor, was direct-awarded a $181,000 job as vice-president of communications and external relations for the (Van Isle) health authority.”
        And:
“Muir’s wife, Athana Mentzelopoulos, is Premier Christy Clark’s deputy minister for corporate priorities.”

Just what the hell is a deputy minister for corporate priorities anyway?

Clark is just continuing to run the Campbell Catering Cart by dishing up plums, all the while dangling carrots in front of media types. “Be nice to me and you will get a nice teat, er, treat.”

  2. Swampy says:

Ah, Premier Snooki returns to BC with mini-me after blowing taxpayers dollars. Mayor Moonbeam and Co are back for another three years. Commentators like Harvey and yourself have a very target rich environment. The rest of us are going to have a very interesting ride for the next few years.
I hope the NPA or who ever replaces it will allow a real leader to step forward and take on Gregor. Not some recycled political hack, but someone new. Same goes for Provincial Politics. We don’t need someone from the far left or the far right. We need someone with balance. Unless Watts or Taylor decide to run, there is nothing decent on the horizon.

  3. Burgess says:

Was Hamish in attendance? Now that would have made the trip worthwhile as he would have had a cultural/ geography lesson. I guess dad had a looky after. This trip was just a taxpayer funded junket to keep her out of the Legislature. Campbell was an ‘expert’ at that tactic. Sheesh! Attending to Provincial business in Victoria was the furthest thing from her ‘mind’.

  4. ∞² says:

At least Ballard is a huge success story for Vancouver, BC, and Canada … didn’t they burn up huge amounts of taxpayer funds to achieve nothing.

Good thing that Delta Power Solutions (India) Pvt. Ltd.doesn’t see BC as an easy touch.

Where can I buy one of those Ballard powered cars? I’ll take a used 2005 model.

  5. Tim says:

Here’s the best photo from the trip:

Seriously, you have GOT to be kidding me.

  6. Don F. says:

Interesting that in that release they had her return nov. 18th to vancouver yet on global at six the led me to beleive she tweeted her comments on occupy the courthouse while on her travels???
Guess mission is not quite accomplished as stated!
    Don

  7. Sam says:

This press release got me to wondering who is Wavefront, the first entity mentioned. This is interesting in terms of context, as someone reading the press release might think this was a private company that received a benefit, whereas it appears to be a pseudo-government agency.

From a Wavefront press release in 2007. “BC Provincial Government Provides wavefront with $5 million in Seed Funding Support. wavefront to Provide Services to Catalyze Wireless Developer Marketplace.
The government of the province of British Columbia has shown its strong support of the wireless industry in BC through its recent funding of wavefront. The Ministry of Advanced Education has provided $5 million in funding to help wavefront with startup and operational costs. wavefront will provide testing and commercialization services to the wireless developer community.”

  8. SB says:

1 meeting 10 shooter bars in 5 star hotels? maybe met 70 business men doing shooters?
    cant wait for full Global tv report with squire :}
sorry Alex cant take anything they do seriously anymore .

  9. Shell says:

    Maybe she meant “MISSING ACCOMPLICE”?

Poor “Crispy Crotch” is just lookng out for our best interests… and she’ll do anything to show us that “Chripy is on our side”! LOL!

  11. Glissando Remmy says:

    The Thought of The Night

“The moment I was about midway reading that letter, I was almost convinced that whoever wrote it, was a CSL – Cantonese as a Second Language! Imagine my surprise when I read… Chris Olsen. ”

What CC sold in India and China is the future of our kids. Period. Our jobs and for sure our kids jobs. As far as I know the number of teaching positions in our colleges and universities is not Limitless.

This is a business plan so hot stuff that you can’t sell it to criminals, so don’t say anything to OJ or Tiger Woods, ok Alex?

Christy Clark, I think she needs to get laid and soon, otherwise there is no reason why she would want to keep wearing those high heel pumps, and you don’t have to believe me, just try walking in one pair… excruciating… so I’ve heard.

As for her advisers, jeez, I bet they think they are sharper than Gillette.
    Not!

If she thinks she can beat her fate she’s delusional. NDP will wash the wood floors in Victoria with her caucus.
Maybe she believes too much in herself and in her ‘qualities’; hey what do I know… you know what Stevie Wonders says: “Seeing Is Believing!” sooo…
    :D

We live in Vancouver and this keeps us busy.

    • AGT says:

I stopped speaking to OJ right before his trial and Tiger and I don’t speak anymore either, as he stole thirteen of my girls in Vegas.

      Now I must start over….

      • Michelle says:

        Funny Glissando,
I read this quote earlier on Twitter and I saw your name but wasn’t clear where it came from. Glad I found the whole commentary.
By the time I found about this newest Clark’s Family “Thirst” thing, it was already over. Go figure. She is backing from this? Strange. As I know she has no shame.
Also I browesed by CityCaucus, Frances Bula… Glissando you are outting up quite a fight considering the Vision continuous bashing, even now after they got everything they went after, geez, pathetic arrogant gang/
BTW, I think on City Caucus one idiot called your blog the first and only Chicken Little blog.
        I rest my case.
Now that they have three years ahead of them to screw the city and the electorate, just wait for it…
What a disaster, what a disaster!

  12. Norm Farrell says:

Yikes. When Ballard Power gets involved in things, the taxpayers’ wallets get emptied. In the fourth decade since its beginning, Ballard is still getting millions from the public purse, the last grant in August, 2011: $4-million. Helping a worthy start-up is one thing but this company only exists because of corporate welfare.

    • AGT says:

Total agreement. They’ve been starting up for years! LOL!

    • Michelle says:

Isn’t Ballard Power the same company that produced NOTHING in the past 20 years other than sucking wind? Hundreds of highly paid “engineers, technologists” that study and study and freaking research those fuel cells, batteries whatever to the bone!
Aren’t they the same company that cca 1991 innaugurated the first and last to be seen electric BUS that was pushed literally down the incline to prove that the batteries are woprth investing in?
Everybody were so full of themselves proud their bus was SO QUIET… yes because it drove down on GRAVITY!
Thievs, Con artists, speculators to the left and to the right in this city, province…jeez!

  13. tf says:

    350 delegates! 150 organizations?
Why did I not hear those numbers before?
I thought it was just Ms. Clark and her entourage. Since when is an entourage the size of a small school?
Is the size of this thing unusual? Who paid those expenses? How did one become part of the delegation?
It sounds like we have similar questions Alex. I look forward to reading what you find out, thanks!

  14. LOLA says:

Morning Alex , i wonder if Pamela went along? I guess she would have to, shes Christys outreach person, isn’t she? By the way what does a outreach person do?

  15. Jack says:

BC business leaders have been told, over & over, that these dog & pony shows don’t cut it in Asia. Any agreements that are signed and sealed are the result of ongoing relationships with RESIDENT representatives who are immediately available to both government and industry for consultation.
The wiggle & jiggle tour is a waste of time and resources, purely a taxpayer funded getaway for these and other public trough-hogs.
Thompson Rivers University recently signed an education agreement with two university schools in China, AFTER having a residential/working relationship with these two schools for FIVE YEARS. That’s how it really works.
Oh yeah, Chrispy Crunch tried to take credit for that too, on her wiggle & jiggle tour of BC, LAST month.

  16. According to Christy ( my ego is bigger ) Clark, BC will see millions of dollars and who knows how many jobs because of her recent taxpayer funded holiday to Asia. Then maybe she can explain another government media release only a few days ago ” B.C.’s GDP growth will be 2.2% rather than the 2.7% forecast in January 2011, according to a revised BC Economic Forecast Council projection.
The council further forecast that B.C.’s economy will grow 2.3% in 2012 and then an average of 2.7% annually through 2016.”
So while Christy ( doesn’t have a clue ) Clark talks about millions & millions in investment… the so called experts are saying growth will be less. Am I the only one who may be confused ?

    Guy in Victoria

  17. Lew says:

I can hardly wait to see video of the “bleary-eyed lawyers” (her words) who she ordered to work through the night and be at the courthouse “as soon as it opens” to get an injunction against the protesters.

They’ll be in the background somewhere as the cameras focus on her standing on the steps with her new cowhide bullwhip. You know, the one Ms. Mentzelopoulos got for her in China…

    • AGT says:

Yeah, while I completely agreed with her rhetoric, I think it was just more fluff.

She clearly doesn’t understand how the law works. There wouldn’t be a necessity for lawyers to be up all night and bleary eyed. This isn’t a murder trial. She’s so shameless it’s unbelievable.

  18. Fonzo says:

This one is BEGGING to be the subject of a “write your own caption” contest http://www.flickr.com/photos/bcgovphotos/6344860997/in/set-72157628037722670/

It is also rumoured to be Bill Good’s new screensaver. :)

  19. Seymour Forest says:

Yes we have seen this before. Many times.

Starting with (for our NDP readers), the time when Mike Harcourt decided after his 1991 win to go on a trip to Japan in November to as he stated to “sell British Columbia”. That trip was more of a free self congratulatory trip than anything else.

These trade missions are not cost effective in this age of social media, and especially email. Business isn’t done by Telex and hasn’t since the late 1980s, and the telephone is fast disappearing as a tool for international trade. So enter email. Fast effective and efficient.

Want to research trade and business opportunities? Find out more about infrastructure projects in other countries that are being close to being started?

    Google is your friend.

  20. Bruce says:

Alex, I get kind of a kick when she said” that more jobs in BC, and just look at the increase in lumber we have sold China”.we may have sold more wood to China. and that might be true, but 90% raw logs.. Were I live we use to have a sawmill that employed 250 men and women. It is just a bare peace of ground now. So unless she plans to change the rules about raw logs going over seas. her jobs manta is just pure Bull shit as far as the forrest industry goes. Cheers

  21. Splendor Sine Occasu says:

Reminds me of Chretien’s and Martin’s “Team Canada” missions…coinkidink?
