More Trouble for the NPA: Paid Advertiser Will Cherry-Pick Which of Their Candidates to Endorse
You really have to hand it to City Caucus. Self-revealed as the launching pad for Mike Klassen’s political career (read: full-on, public disgrace) they used the media for three years to put a totally unqualified man within reach of a council spot.
This is after pointing out the lack of qualifications of the current lot.
During the lead up to the November elections and old shameless ploy was fair game for Daniel Fontaine and his sidekick Mike Klassen: Showing up to Surrey events just to get pictures with Dianne Watts. Supporting Christy Clark while taking Falcon advertising and then towing a soft line on both. Collecting on PR work for the BC Liberals while covering them.
And now the pinnacle of shamelessness: City Caucus is being paid by the NPA campaign to promote their brand in this election. not a huge stretch, since Fontaine and Klassen are all but kissing the hem of Suzanne Anton’s robes–a deference a kin to hero-worship. Embarrassing? Hardly. Not when you are without any shame or conscience.
So while collecting to promote the NPA BRAND, the NPA TEAM, they’ve now announced on (what else?!) TWITter that City Caucus WILL NOT be endorsing all NPA candidates.
Behold, the brazen stupidity and dishonesty…
@Boldtcom Lesli Boldt
I bet this tweet’ll be a bit upsetting for @SuzanneAnton: MT @CityCaucus: @MayorGregor is a slam dunk…

@Boldtcom they might also be surprised that CityCaucus.com likely won’t be endorsing a full slate of NPA candidates!

Gee…I can’t imagine why…
Could it have anything to do with the fact that Klassen is not polling as favorably as they claim and that strategic votes elsewhere would better his chances.
If you’re wondering what the first comment by mindless Vision Vancouver hand-maiden Lesli Boldt was about, she was referring to yet another tweet by the ‘Dynamic Duo of Duncity’. Fontaine and Klassen remarked that Gregor Robertson was a “slam dunk” for Mayor.
And Klassen is running on the same slate as Suzanne Anton????????
These guys are the two biggest fools in Vancouver civic politics to come along in a long, long time.
But there are some serious questions which arise from this:
The first to Suzanne Anton: How does it feel to have the guy you favour before any of your other candidates not at least jump in and straighten out his partner who admits to the world that you’re a sure loser in November? Aren’t you paying these clowns to provide support?
And the second to every single last NPA candidate currently working their buns off pounding the pavement, knocking on doors and raising money: How does it feel to know that while you guys are having a helluva time raising money and garnering support, that the Klassen show overshadows all of you? How does it feel to know this kind of outright betrayal? While his blog is collecting to advertise YOUR team, they announce that they won’t be endorsing all of you–just the ones that are bootlicking Mike’s loafers.
Manipulative, low-life scumbags at City Caucus? You be the judge.
Even though Vancouver politics have little effect on those of us who live elsewhere in the lower mainland, I’m still appalled at the stupicity of every single one of them. It’s amusing to watch the news each night to see what rediculous things are happening in Vancouver.
[Translate]
I don’t blame you!
And to those readers who are not Vancouverites, I know that many of you complain when I do pieces like this. My apologizes but Vancouver is my town, the place I was born and raised in and where I’ve lived the vast majority of my life.
Gotta cover my hometown–the one I love with all my heart.
[Translate]
Actually Vancouver does have effect on neighbouring areas, but very little if you live in Sasamat or Anmore or on Barnston Island or White Rock.
The stupidity of the NPA campaign is rising. Obviously can’t even do the easy to handle tasks. Too many paid people focusing on their being conceited and telling anyone who will stand next to them for 2 minutes how important they think they are.
So the real candidates are carrying the freight for Klassen and those who are too lazy to get out there and see those who will make the votes? Seen that before.
So Klassen gets his fees paid for, and this guy doesn’t go out and actually work to get votes? But some candidates are out there knocking on the doors? Says alot about him.

“But some candidates are out there knocking on the doors? Says alot about him.”
This statement is so true, I must admit I personally admire Bill McCreery for his tireless efforts to respond to voters on various blogs.. I found he takes the time to respond to every question put forth and if he doesn’t have the answers he always seems to get back to the poster when he has the answer.
I’ve also appreciated the fact that he will get togther with a voter for a face to face chat.
To me that says a great deal about a politician. If someone puts in that much of an effort to listen to my concerns, I think he will serve me well…
[Translate]
He is in the minority.Someone who makes the effort to win a seat politically rather than just sit back and think “the voters think I’m important, they’ll vote me in” earns support, while the other who just thinks he is entitled to it because of his “connections”, etc. etc. should just be bypassed.
I see alot of that in politics, at all levels.
Wanna know what George? The political hacks are far worse. Especially those who figure they are entitled to everything good despite not putting on the work gloves and moving lumber around for the signs, or getting busy with the letter folding into the envelopes.

Agreed Seymour Forest…
I support the minority of hard working politicians that put their constituents before themselves…those are the voices that need to be heard more often.
I actually wish Bill McCreery and a few others were running as an Independents, even though I realize that is very difficult…
Bill has my vote..I’m also waiting to have conversations with several other politicians that are running as Independents this term..
It is time to take politics in this city back to the process of “Public Servant” serving the best interests of me the taxpayer…not themselves at the expense of the public trough..

Vancouver a truly wonderful and beautiful city that will once again be under attack and systematically destroyed by total incompetents sitting as council and mayor. With taxes due to rise by a minimum of 25 – 30 % to cover the entire BS at City hall how can they pretend to be running on an affordability and sustainability platforms?

Right on the money! Literally too!!

Had a robo call town hall call from NPA tonight…I wanted to be put through without having to completely give my entire question to the operator before I was allowed to talk to candidate. so I told the operator I wanted to ask a question about Stanly Park…which I did..
If I was at an all candidates meeting I would not be so tightly screened , so I felt that if a political party is calling MY home at night without my permission I should be allowed to ask what I want without being so heavily screened..
So to the operator that played verbal ping pong with me tonight if you are reading this…yes NPA volunteer I feel you were censoring my call!!
[Translate]
You’re not alone. I had about a half dozen calls from readers with the same experience. Shameful.

Here’s how my city council dance card is shaping up right now:
Sean Bickerton, Joe Carangi, George Affleck (NPA: seem to be decent hard-working guys), maybe Ellen Woodworth, because she doesn’t seem evil, Tim Louis (both COPE), because he’s my protest vote and will piss off everyone, which is always fun. Sandy Garossino, independent, because she had the nads to take on the casino jerks and the province.
Vision, no, though Meggs seems to be the most pragmatic and smartest of a bad bunch. Too bad that he is assigned to be their pitbull. The rest of them have gigantic “we know better than you” chips on their shoulders. Buh-bye!
Vision School Board, must be rid of Patti Bacchus, one of the snarkiest people in the city. Sharon Gregson packs heat (I know that appeals to YOU…LOL) and Mike Lombardi has been pretty quiet. They may be screwed anyways, since the province and the BCTeachers Association seem to suddenly be dealing. I’ll put money on PAC mom Sandy Sharma, mental health worker Sophia Woo, stalwart Ken Denike (all NPA). You know, people with experience.
Will vote NPA slate for Park Board, because the current bunch of Vision people are a natural disaster. I wiill so miss Ian Robertson.
And speaking about Robertson…I got nuthin’ for Mayoral choice.

Sharon Gregson appeals to me more than just for her greats guns…

I’m getting into this blog thing and I can’t disagree with you more. The only person worth while is that Joe C who I’ve seen on TV the other two I’ve never heard of and have never seen them do anything. As well I just can’t vote for any person who is just relying on where their name falls on the voters ballot or on their dad’s name ie De Genova who I will also not support.
After a lot of talking to people I think only one person is likely to get on council from the NPA and it looks like park board is where I will focus my attention. I will support 4 NPA people John Coupar, Casey Crawford, Dave Pasin and John Upton.
This election is a write off and I might as well protect my community centers
[Translate]
I agree that its tempting to vote for Tim Louis, just to watch him get under Gregor’s skin. But Geoff Meggs – ack! Mister Anti-Viaducts shouldn’t be anywhere near a position he can use to waste our money on such useless schemes.
[Translate]
Meggs is the single most insidious politician in recent Vancouver history. He should not be in public life. A full-on Communist and by nature extremist.
[Translate]
When I go to vote on the 19th of November, should I vote for some decent folks (the few that there are) or should I just eat my ballot paper (after all, after all the lies I’ll have ingested, I just might need the ruffage!)?
And as for City Caca — the quote “With friends like these, who needs enemies?” is especially apt.

Other things of note on the NPA
Why a campaign office near the St. Regis on Dunsmuir? Hard to get to (unless you walk or bicycle) It would be better to have a storefront on a well used street in an area away from downtownsuch as Broadway or 41st or 49th. Is Stowe too lazy to use a bus to get to his client’s campaign office? A large camapign coffice where everyone can get to, and everything is done from there, from
media liason to sleeving signs and cutting lumber.
The “Suzanne Anton and the Common Sense Team”. Too leader-centric. are these signs being available for the candidate of choice such as Ken Denike or someone else? (as was done in the past, a campaign sign with your favourite candidate on it).
Goes back to that icky “Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberals” slogan.
[Translate]
The NPA campaign office is below The Shore Club. Rob owns the building. I believe he donated the space. I’m not sure. So you take what you can get but I agree, it would have been better at grade/storefront. For municipal campaigns in particular, it’s key.
[Translate]
It’s a few steps away from an escalator from the Expo Line and a block from the Canada Line. Politically correct transit-wise, but I didn’t see a bike rack.
[Translate]
Take what you can get, but there certainly had to be suitable places along Broadway, Granville, Oak, Cambie, 49th, etc.
In politics, donations at that level are done for a reason. It’s certainly not done for kindness in absolute terms. What is “accounts receivable” or “donation in kind” now will become “accounts payable” or “I gave you an office space” later.

Sean Bickerton supports tearing down the viaducts..does Mike Klassen?
how does the NPA feel about this, and i always knew klassen and city caucus were a hypocritical, biased joke
[Translate]
I don’t know how much Sean supports tearing down viaducts. I think he supports looking at possibly remitting the roadways downtown to make car travel more efficient.
