To Shame and Project: Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu Continues to Politicize the Force by Defending the Mayor of Vancouver’s Lies and Spin

14

It just baffles me how Gregor Robertson has found such a willing dupe in Chief Constable Jim Chu.

‘The Great Chooo’ as we’ve nicknamed him here, is front and center every time the Mayor puts his foot in his mouth.

Case in point: While the Mayor has been busy (wrongly) firing at the provincial government over the background of the mentally ill man that sliced up a 3 year old boy’s face at the Ray-Cam Community Center earlier this week, no one, EXCEPT the Chief backed him up.

Health Minister and presumptive Premier-to-be hammered the Mayor by releasing the information that the man in question hadn’t been part of the mental health system for at least five years.

Embarrassingly, the Chief started in about how the VPD has a “relationship” with mental health authorities through their “partnership” with Coastal Health etc. Then he sounded as if he too was questioning how this guy ended up on the street. Not done there, he fell just short of offering to shine the Mayor’s shoes and iron his trousers.

Unbelievable. This is one day after the Mayor did an online Q & A for The Province, with citizens asking him questions and a staffer typing out answers as quickly as possible.

Here’s the evidence that Gregor Robertson really has not a clue what the hell he’s talking about on yet another issue, but insists that his insufferable bullshit is the real thing.

Behold:

“I’m calling on the provincial government to answer on the gaps in the mental health system that enabled this to happen. The suspect is known to have a history of mental illness and be involved in violent incidents. We need to understand how people like this are on the street and accessing community centres.” (Gregor Robertson, November 24th., 2010)

The problem, of course, is that the “gap” he’s talking about has NOTHING to do with the sicko that sushied that poor kid’s face.

Here are the FACTS, Mr. Mayor, maybe you can have one of your staff read them to you or spell them out phonetically to make it easier for you to comprehend (my youngest is going through the same thing in kindergarten, it works like a charm for her). I’m sorry to be flip (not really) but is there no limit to the lies and spin you will tell the public Gregor?

The man in question, the slasher from the other night, was arrested for ‘Assault With a Weapon’ and released on bail.  Arrested again for breaching his bail conditions and released again.  Not a mention of this from Robertson OR THE CHIEF OF POLICE, who must be aware of this, but then failing to understand an issue has never kept either of their mouths shut before.

And let’s not forget the povertarians and grief pimps that have turned feeding off the downtrodden and addicted on the DTES into a cottage industry–in no small part to the facilitation by people like Jim Green, one of the Mayor’s political mentors and co-founder of the Mayor’s party.

But Gregor Robertson and his pal Jimmy Chu still want answers…

It is a disgrace to have a Chief of police who is so deep in the political tank for the Mayor and his cohorts that he’s forgotten his first duty: To tell the truth. No wonder morale at the VPD is at an all-time low.

Not enough evidence that the VPD under Chu is simply an arm of Vision Vancouver’s dumbing down of law and order in Vancouver?

Well, if the insane cyclist that killed a man the other day isn’t enough for you (cyclists now OWN this town thanks to being emboldened to ride like maniacs thanks to Vision’s extremism–they’re feeling invincible), then perhaps another nugget from the Mayor from the same online Province interview will help:

Here it is:

When asked why cops weren’t doing anything about open marijuana use, this is what Robertson tossed up from his smoky cranium.

“The City’s priority has been on dealing with hard drugs and dealers and gangs. That’s where resources are focused. The cost to the police and justice system to enforce marijuana laws would be huge, as we’ve seen in the States.” (Gregor Robertson, November 24th., 2010)

Are you following the messaging here? We don’t want to be like the United States, because they actually jail people for breaking the law. In fact, in Marc Emery’s case, they’re doing our job for us. Think about the breathtaking stupidity of this man Robertson. He is surrounded by dope-smokers and legalizations idiots, so marijuana is a “soft drug”, almost like what leftist actress Whoopi Goldberg once described as simple “rape” and not “rape, rape” when advocating for the release of convicted rapist Roman Polanski, who drugged a teen-aged girl and sodomized her repeatedly. Ms. Goldberg considered this ‘simple’ rape and not “rape, rape” because the girl was intoxicated. Just like the Mayor, in this case, when he describes marijuana as a “soft drug” because it’s not really a “drug, drug”.

Boy, he sure seems to be a big advocate of giving people who smoke marijuana an easy ride…I wonder why that is…

Do you see how the doctrinaire left operate? Marijuana is extremely damaging to your health and is a gateway drug for so many. I’ve interviewed over 200 addicts, not one who started smoking grass didn’t climb down the ladder into hell.

But Chu and Robertson are as soft on crime as they are wrong on mental health issues.

That guy that held the boy hostage hadn’t been anywhere near the mental health authorities for YEARS. It’s obvious that if the legal system was playing a game of catch and release, then it was a COURT matter, not a provincial government issue. The court have all the power to order the man held in a facility.

And they didn’t.

But don’t tell Chu or Robertson, who are both soft on crime.

Particularly, in Chief Chu’s case, it’s not like he has a two-year old report, written by a bright, knowledgeable young officer, just sitting around somewhere at headquarters that he could easily reference.

Not one that contains a list of recommendations, the first of which suggests the opening of a mental health facility…

Nah…carry on Jimmy, carry on…

Frightening, considering the Mayor’s team wants to champion the cause of a child’s day care at the racetrack. It is very disturbing that Vision Van insult legitimate cases of mental illness and then heap further abuse on the traumatized 3 year old old in order to espouse leftist propaganda.

    Alex!

“Chu and Robertson are as soft on crime as they are wrong on mental health issues”

So true! That is one juicy line! I will be using that (and various derivatives of it) a lot!

It’s starting to scare me how much I’m agreeing with most of what you write : )
Don’t run for anything ok – because the system will probably mess you up – just do what you are doing and hold their feet to the fire.

Chief Chu really fulfilled the expectations of the people who called him a carpet cop. Policing is not always a nice warm fuzzy business. It bleeds money constantly and in unpredictable ways such as a bad year for homicides or increased gang activity that saps resources. It should answer to the people, not political agendas driven by sensational media crusades. The police boards are often staffed and chaired by Mayors or other politicos linked to politics or agendas. All cushy, warm appointees of some bent or other. I do not claim to have the perfect make up for such an entity, however, where is the representation of the average tax paying, gainfully employed citizen? Is this not who the department is serving and answerable to?

The BC Police Act prohibits Judges of the Provincial Court, Supreme Court or Court of Appeal. I find that amusing since the police actions at every turn are mired in legality, except the fund raising of course. In the case of the Vancouver Police Board, 3 business people ( all with ties to the city govt), a lawyer (defended the City against law suits), an economic development coordinator (read local native honcho), a director (ex politician) and of course the Mayor (nuff said there). Where is the ordinary taxpayer? check the “credentials ” of the chosen few: http://vancouver.ca/police/policeboard/profiles.htm

How do we let this happen? Apathy?

“…however, where is the representation of the average tax paying, gainfully employed citizen? Is this not who the department is serving and answerable to?”

No, apparently, in Vancouver, the police are answerable to Vision Vancouver hierarchs like Gregor Robertson and Penny Ballem.

And I have always said that I think the Police Board should be a mostly elected Board.

Alex, you didn’t post my most excellent comments that shot down Chu and Robertson? What gives?

    • AGT says:

      Can you resend them?

Often, you will post made-to-measure horse shit and expect it to pass, so when you do post something worthwhile, my spam filters pick it up and it gets deleted automatically.

Resend pls and if it’s up to snuff, I’ll happily post your comment.

      • Tim says:

Damn, okay, I’ll try to remember, usually I just hit submit and forget.

You would have enjoyed this though.

        • AGT says:

If you followed my advice to being with and didn’t write things thinking that you would annoy me and act like a child, I would automatically approve your comments.

But you wanted to play silly bugger more than half the time.

Look Tim, I will approve ANYONE’s comments, provided they make sense and are not defamatory or tasteless. It matters not if I enjoy the comment, this isn’t an echo-chamber.

Please rethink your comment, and I will happily post it. Again, if you went to SPAM it’d be gone most of the time without me even seeing it because that’s how I’m set up.

          Sorry about that. Good luck.

I’m interested to read your comments on most topics, then astounded at your level of ignorance about marijuana. The Emery case interested me because a Canadian citizen was extradited to the US, without breaking any laws in Canada. His treatment by our government is reprehensible and were it not a marijuana topic, I would guess you’d be offended by what happened.

As to marijuana being a gateway drug, that is nonsense, and cannot be taken seriously. John Walter, Bush43′s drug czar addressed the V board of trade with statements about marijuana being the number one addiction problem, with more marijuana addicts in jails than any other types of addictions. It is easier and stupid to ignore tobacco and alcohol. Health costs of marijuana won’t be visible on a chart including alcohol and tobacco addiction expenses. Many, many good citizens enjoy occasional marijuana use, a cold beer, glass of wine or scotch etc, without consequence. Criminalizing them is idiocy.

Please in future, consider limiting your comments to the many, many topics that you are conversant and eloquent discussing. On marijuana you come off as either very naive or inexplicably biased or very old.

I am enjoying the archives and blogs I’ve read since discovering your site and agree with more than less of your posts.

    Cheers

    James

My comments on marijuana stand. It’s not called DOPE for nothing. You have mixed and contorted many of them, with respect, so I cannot make heads of tails of where you arrived at some of the conclusions. But fair warning, I will be doing a whole series of the perils of marijuana and other drugs very soon.

In the meantime, Happy New Year to you and your family, and enjoy the rest of my offerings as you wish.

      Very best.
