NPA Pub Night A Success!

13

Well, wonder never cease…

Almost fifty people in a quaint little pub on Main Street. Big smiles, happy people.

This is in no small part to Vision’s self-inflicted radicalism costing them their relationship with the media (and the public). But you have to give the NPA credit where credit is due.

NPA celebrities like Ian Robertson, Michael Geller, Ken Denike and Setty Pendakur. Emerging demi-lords like Gavin Dew, Bill McCreery and Dave Pasin were riding high. Even President Michael Davis (who’s actually a nice man and probably gets too rough a ride on this blog) was smiling from ear to ear.

Why?

I’ll tell you.

The room was mostly YOUNG (extraordinary), motivated organized and committed members and hierarchs–all with oars in the water, going in the same direction. No talk of Peter vs. Sam, no nonsense.

And (!!!) there were two major money players as well. This is an extremely good sign and exactly what I have said needs to happen. Vision’s spy was also present, but he’ll be neutralized soon.

So when I wrote this maybe I wasn’t off at all. Someone was listening…and reading.

Kudos to the NPA for keeping the flicker of light alive. It’s not quite a roaring fire yet, but I’m sure Vision will do more to help them.

Now, if the NPA really wants to impress me, go cancel your November (early) nomination meeting–NOW. You will only be providing a vicious and rabid Vision Vancouver war room and ENTIRE YEAR of prep time, to create lies and spin about any and all your candidates.

Go cancel that now==don’t wait–it’s a very stupid strategy. You have lots of time and Vision are rapidly imploding–AND IT WILL NOT COME BACK FOR THEM. Trust me.

Think…

    Surely not the Cobalt? ;-)

Seriously, it must be nice to at least be able to entertain the possibility of overthrowing the socialists at the next election. Those of us trapped in The People’s Happy Democratic Republic Of Burnaby can only listen to Chairman Corrigan crowing about being second only to Castro in longevity and dream ….

    • AGT says:

No! :-) As a former patron of the Cobalt (don’t ask) I can tell you that the NPAers there last night wouldn’t survive half a minute in the blue of the ‘balt!

They were at a pub next to Heritage Hall. Five Points, I believe.

Unfortunately, I and a few others were unable to make it out so thank you for the recap of last nights successful event.

Dare I dream the next event will have need for more space?

Alex, we are indeed reading, watching, listening and most importantly becoming more engaged and active.

    • AGT says:

Good. Glad to hear. No go kill off the early nomination meeting. Vision are desperate and they will throw everything at you. Lies will become their currency. Why provide them such an early start? Makes ZERO sense.

    “NPA celebrities like …Setty Pendakur”
    ———————————————-
Interesting. I understood that as a member of the 1972 TEAM council Setty Pendakur was from the centre-left side of the spectrum – from the Mike Harcourt/Darlene Marzari wing of TEAM.

I didn’t realize that he was now with the NPA or an NPA celebrity for that matter. Actually I would have figured that VV would be a more natural fit for Setty Pendakur.

BTW, Setty Pendakur was a New Democrat candidate for Vancouver Point Grey in the December, 1975 provincial election.

If the NPA wants to win in 2011, they need to become a “big tent” party and also attract centre-left candidates/voters. Good stuff!

    Alex,

Too bad you are or becoming such a big NPA supporter. As I’ve said before they are not much better than the guy’s in power today. We need a fresh new group of individuals to take back the city and do some good. Like creating an environment that attracts businesses paying good wages, creating a City wide plan that builds on neighbourhood communities (not destroying them) and working with other levels of government to find solutions to many of the cities problems (not forcing ideology and the costs on YVR tax payers)

    • AGT says:

Don–I’m not a big supporter of one party over another. I’m simply calling it the way I see it. I view the NPA as a battle-ready vehicle that could return some sanity to the city. Yes, they had some problems before, but this Vision lot is absolutely CRAZY. Now I’m hearing talk of a Commercial Drive bike lane.

  5. Larry Bennett says:

Wouldn’t have been the back parlour of the Vanport Hotel would it? Oh, you say it’s been demolished. It used to be one of my neighbourhood pubs, way back when; though I was always afraid to sit in the back room.
Guess you could say it was for Ladies and Escorts, Only!

Let us not forget the war between Sam and Peter and the fact that the NPA ( No Progress Association) did very little to make this city a better place. They are really no different than the Happy Planet Mayor and his gang of incompetents.
If you disagree tell me what the NPA under Sorry Sam accompished on crime, affordable housing, business taxes, drugs, street crime,
arts and culture funding, prostitution, growing and improving the police force and fire department, city hall environment and control of the budget, fair and complete community consultations.
Alex is far too smart to support this sad group, I hope.
I will say it one more time. We need to get rid of the parties and vote for candidates who are not developer or union supported, are independent thnikers and who have the public interest at heart and in action.
