Gregor Robertson Hiding From a Summer of Bad Press; The NPA in Full Attack and the Media Have Fully Turned on Vision Vancouver
Fresh from the CKNW Newsroom:
AUG252010
NPA COUNCILLOR SUZANNE ANTON SAYS THE MAYOR’S ALREADY ISOLATED. IN FACT SHE SAYS COUNCILLORS DON’T EVEN HAVE THE ABILITY TO WALK FREELY INTO HIS OFFICE….
“He (the Mayor) has a closed door in his own offices so you can’t just walk in and just chat and that’s very unusual and that’s certainly wasn’t true for the last three mayors which I know of so he’s already been an extremely isolated political figure.” (NPA Councillor Suzanne Anton)
ANTON SAYS ROBERTSON’S BIGGEST PLATFORM DURING THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN WAS TAKING PETTY POLITICS OUT OF CITY HALL AND IN FACT SHE SAYS HE’S NOW DOING JUST THE OPPOSITE.
And then…from the CKNW News at Noon…
AUG252010
A VANCOUVER PARK BOARD COMMISSIONER SAYS HE DOESN’T BUY THE ARGUMENT THE MAYOR NEEDS AN EXPANDED OFFICE FOR MORE PRIVACY. IAN ROBERTSON SAYS THE MAYOR’S CURRENT OFFICE IS ALREADY BEHIND SEVERAL SETS OF DOORS…..
“I’ve had the opportunity of being in the Mayor’s Office over a number of years and it’s a pretty spacious and swanky office and the mayor’s office is behind two or three sets of closed doors, so there’s not a privacy issue this is just Vision Vancouver running for cover on this one.” (NPA Park Commissioner Ian Robertson)
IAN ROBERTSON SAYS THE RENOS COME AT A TIME WHEN THE PARK BOARD HAS HAD TO CUT VALUABLE SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR KIDS ACROSS THE CITY.
Here is the absolutely best piece written on the Raymond Louie’s lies about how the renos are Sam Sullivan’s “fault.” It’s written by Daniel Fontaine of citycaucus.com and provides excellent perspective.
Now…
If this isn’t full and complete evidence that the media have turned on the ridiculous platform that has sprung from Vision Vancouver’s well-head of stupidity, then I don’t know what is…
ITEM: Global TV has run no less than SIX major pieces in three months exposing Vision for everything from no-bid/no-tender contracts for friends and insiders to highly questionable numbers on the bike lanes.
ITEM: CKNW’s newsroom routinely features stories about Vision Vancouver and their radical ways–even breaking several stories in the process. Top reporter Janet Brown leads the way.
ITEM: The Province, currently the best newspaper in town, has clearly given up on Vision Vancouver. Their exceptional editorial yesterday says it all. But notice the phrase “radical green agenda.” This is the kind of political dynamite stick that has landed at the Mayor’s door, lit, with fuse rapidly dwindling. This is precisely what I predicted in 2009 would happen by the time the next municipal election would roll around. The Mayor’s crew scoffed, their propaganda twit fumed, Ian Baillie, their Executive Director, told me I was “way, way off, we’re going to sail to re-election.” Really? What ‘dya say now fellas?
ITEM: CBC News Vancouver, the second most watched dinner hour news show behind Global, routinely features Vision Vancouver hijinks and mindlessness, with a major story on Monday night about the empty offices at City Hall and a follow-up.
ITEM: 24 Hours Vancouver, despite employing Vision communications committee adviser Bill Tieleman (to his great credit he mostly stays away from local issues), and having a terribly left-wing newsroom, unleashed their top-reporter, Bob Mackin, who produced this beauty just the other day. It seems that Mike Magee, the most hated and doctrinaire of any Chief of Staff in history, feels that it’s none of your business as to whom he was munching with in New York while away on your dime.
ITEM: With the excellence of Mike Howell, Sandra Thomas and Mark Hasiuk all hammering Vision Vancouver, the Courier can no longer be considered a left-wing paper. Garr’s sad descent into partisan oblivion notwithstanding.
ITEM: Jeff Lee’s excellent exposé on the empty Silly Hall floors is reverberating throughout Vancouver and people are HOPPING MAD about the waste.
ITEM: Harvey Oberfeld, Mike Klassen, David in North Burnaby, Pelalusa, Michael Geller, and moi, have all given you ample perspective on why Vision are wrong for Vancouver. Where Vision owned the blogosphere in the last election (with Kevin Quinlan, writing as Vancouver Kid, leading the parade), they are BEHIND in the number of perspectives and clear-eyed opinions on their rubbish this time.
I could go on…
I guess Vision thinks they can go into the next election with CTV, Linda Solomon’s ‘Vancouver Observer’ and the Vision-connected Allen Garr and über-biased Frances Bula?
Good luck with that.
This summer has been a DISASTER for Vision Vancouver. All they keep saying to themselves is that, “It’s summer…everyone’s away…no one is paying attention…”
Really?! Well, I’ve got NEWS for them…and you.
Fall is just around the corner…and I’m still standing….
I promise you TWO huge breaking news pieces in the next two weeks that will show you EXACTLY how much the Mayor and his party DON’T care about your tax dollar.
In the end, this next municipal election will not be about right vs. left. It’ll be about right vs. wrong. And the great part about that is that Vision, through their foolish and extremist actions, have set the table for all opponents–particularly the NPA.
With even a moderately good Mayoral candidate, the NPA can win this and return us to the sanity of Philip Owen’s first two terms (without the harm seduction nonsense, thank you)–but such an effort has to include candidates that WILL NOT support bike lanes and the rest of the extremist green agenda. Meaning Suzanne has some serious splain’ to do. Vancouver MUST return to an even keel. We cannot afford another term of Vision Vancouver.
And the city is now humming with the same observation.
Let’s see what happens…

Oh Visionistas, bring out the smelling salts. Better yet, time for the Vancouver Sun to allow Miro Cernetig another prominently displayed brass cheque on how Gregor is simply experiencing “growing pains” en route to his inevitable re-coranation by grateful electors. (Think the Sun should put one of its Advertising Feature labels atop any of Cernetig’s musings on Vancouver politics.)

Thankfully Miro’s gone and we don’t have to endure embarrassing columns like the ones he had the temerity to write. But the Sun still sees running ridiculous opinion pieces by Vision fluffers as “balance”. Frankly, it’s just bad journalism. These people are paid to do things like that and the Sun gives them platform and profile. Shameful.

Coming to a street near you! Tonight on Global news an item about a demonstration from “long boarders” in White Rock, wherein a group of what looked to be non-taxpaying citizens want to have the right to travel the streets the same as cyclers, though there is a bylaw forbidding them on the byways. Is there anything as ridiculous as a indignant spotty looking young man demanding his rights? Funny, they remind me of the Mayor of Vancouver, though he’s out grown the spots.

Larry! Where the hell have you been? Long stretch there between comments. I was going to call!
Yes, the boarders are now another activist group. Ridiculous. They should grow up and get jobs.

Every time I saw you covering a story others looked at before you I always thought you were behind but now I see your thinking.
You really do have opinions that others do not. This is one of your best posts on Vision. I’m a citycaucus reader, but this site gives the kind of information that I haven’t found anywhere else.
Well done Tsakumis. I don’t agree with your more conservative stuff but on city issues you’re untouchable.

Everyone is touchable. But I appreciate your kind words. Thx!

As much as Jim Green (wow! a 70% approval rating for the Mayor!?? Not in your wildest dreams, guy) and Mike Macgee try to spin it (they sure do talk alot about their money supporters and their so-called organizational skills, don’t they?) , there is blood in the Vision waters.
Are they mortally wounded? Maybe not yet.
But there may be death by a thousand cuts.
I think we are up to 917…

928 to be exact…

The Thought of The Day
“Jung, Junk, Jang. What’s in a name? It is agreed upon that Psychology is a racket. What about Psychiatry? Leather couch, Hard Drugs prescription pad, Billing by the hour… every 50 minutes. “
VISION STENCH IN VANCOUVER
Kerry, the stench does not come from the food cart. Your poor explanation is as pathetic as your reflection in the mirror. You better do a psycho analysis session or two with the Meeyor and find out where it’s coming from.
ASK PENNY CATEGORY
I heard that the Meeyor wants you up on Six but he also strictly wants the elevator to go up to Five. Is that true? And if it is, could you please sing ‘Over the rainbow’ for me?
MOA
Raymond, The Museum of Anthropology has one Gallery dedicated to the evolution of the’ Balls, Ballocks, Balkans, Boys, Cohones, Nuts…’ throughout the ages. Sadly the ‘Louie’ is not represented. Gone missing or somethin’
VANCOUVER’S GREENEST
Green has traditionally been the color of the deadly Sin of Envy and that of Money. With this Furniture move though, a trendy upstart is showing its libidinous face to the unexpected Vancouver Taxpayer. Is Vancouver becoming the Green Capital? My accountant says Yes!
ASK SOLOMON CATEGORY
Hey, Joel how is that 500+ Flea years plan, working out for you? My middle name is Zapper.
MY PET PIG
My pet Pig asked me for a new trough. I said ‘No, I’ll have to close Bloedel Conservatory and the Petting Zoo in Stanley Park for that.’ My pet Pig asked me for a new Pigsty. I said ‘No, Eleven Schools will have to be shut down if I’ll do that.’ My pet Pig asked me for a new Diet and a non invasive Liposuction. I said ‘No, I can’t do that. How are you going to blend in?’ My pet Pig left me. He’s now working for Gregor. Blending in is not a problem.
We live in Vancouver and this keeps us busy.

Man, I don’t know where you come up with this stuff, but I’ve got to tell you, it’s magic!

Why doesn’t Phillip Owen make a comeback?
[Translate]
Instead of giving you the long list, I’ll knock off the first one on the short list.
He’s 77 years old.

Is it just me, or has Vision made unprecedented use of the City Manager to publicly stand front and center to take the heat for Vision mismanagement ? I don’t ever recall any previous administration using a City Manager to fight PR battles like the juice boy and his cohorts have. A bit pathetic that Penny has to defend the juice boy’s shameless exploitation of tax dollars solely so he can have a fancy new office when the old one was apparently good enough for every previous mayor, even a disabled one.
It seems all of the Vision cowards are too afraid to defend this sham publicly so in they send Penny, apparently now the highest paid city communications manager as well.
