The Tamil Refugees: The REAL Story

14

When I wrote, this, other than the usual raft of hate mail from bleeding hearted liberals, who clearly think we should be the world’s trash bin, I was pleasantly surprised with the response from several Tamils–now Canadian citizens, who are AGAINST the illegal boats coming from their embattled homeland. They came here legally, like my parents and millions upon millions of others.

As one put it, “You are helping my people and for this I appreciate your words. I came here a young woman and worked hard. I arrived through legal means….but I do not dare openly criticize these smugglers since I have family still in Sri Lanka.”

I received many such notes, with almost identical sentiments. They were heartfelt, but the fear was palpable.

That the organizers of the last two boats to land here like this, are thugs obviously committed to human smuggling is not in question. What is in question, is why any of the whole slew of immigration “consultants” and lawyers dedicated to shielding the almost 500 Tamils in the latest shipment, continue to spin the truth.

Here are some facts that I have been able to learn through government and Tamil community sources:

1) Dozens of the latest boat load are moderately to seriously ill. They are suffering from all sorts of maladies. Of particular concern is the outbreak, on ship, of Tuberculosis.

2) There are at least 23 cases of suspected TB, with 4 confirmed–only one has been reported by the mainstream press.

3) One of the refugees is pregnant. One other is also suspected of having been pregnant and losing the baby en route.

4) One 37 year-old man died over the course of the months it took for the ship to reach our shores. According to crew members he was “buried at sea.” The truth: He was tossed over board after he was discovered to be dead.

5) The organizers of this latest boat are the exact same people behind the boat that landed here ten months ago. They are committed human smugglers that charge a significant amount of money and essentially hold your family hostage in Sri Lanka until you’re fully paid. (Who would allow for their family to be held ransom? And lengths would such a person go to, to avoid any harm to them? Buying detonators? Fertilizer? Timing switches? Stealing explosives?

6) The state of lawlessness aboard the ship was at times troubling. Quarters were cramped, as the boat really wasn’t that large. Organizers essentially stuffed as many people as possible on board.

Now, other than the not-so-shocking details, I have to ask where the Canadian government have been on this file for the last ten months. Surely to God, they must have known that once the first boat wasn’t turned away, a second and third and fourth would be coming.

They’ve been working on “a process” since then, but two months ago when Canadian intelligence gathering had already picked up that we were to be the recipients of this latest boatful of freeloaders, where was the government then? We knew about it and sat idly by.

If the fallback position of bureaucrats on this matter is that there is law in place which prohibits OUR government from sending people back, then CHANGE THE DAMNED LAW.

But that might require some extraordinary courage.

Never mind the census donnybrook, THIS is an issue Canadians are not divided on. The overwhelming majority realize what a farce this whole mess is and want the boat people sent home forthwith. Why the Conservatives aren’t running with it is beyond me.

The government, I’m told by senior Conservative sources, is shell-shocked by the criticism of even its supporters. There is no reason not to begin the process of turning these people around and sending them home. But then there is the very vocal Tamil lobby of propagandists and liars, who have taken to the airwaves on a daily basis.

As Canadians, I fear we’ve lost this one to the organized Tamil criminals–the ones that should be charged and jailed, from many thousands of miles away and the seemingly never-ending stream of propagandists, lawyers and immigration consultants, that apparently have more an influence on Canadian domestic and foreign policy than we do.

    Yep.

And things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

    Spot on again Mr T.
I hope you are sending this on to Stephen H.

Thx Johnny. My understanding is that the Prime Minister’s people read this blog on a daily basis. And for that I am humbled (which is EXTRAORDINARILY RARE) and privileged.

Because the current rotten racket enriches them wonderfully?

    The Thought of The Day

    “ Dear Mr. Hans Gruber,
Under Canada’s immigration points system you needed a total of 67 points to qualify.

For a skilled worker like yourself, a family man with relatives in this country, this may have been a very good option for you for immigrating to Canada.

We’ve reviewed your application in great detail, and evaluated your paperwork with the utmost care and respect.

Unfortunately we are sorry to inform you that you’ve scored only 66 points which according to our immigration rules is insufficient, for the time being.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and encourage you to apply again in a one year time if the particulars of your situation have changed in the right direction.

Think nothing of this refusal, perhaps a fly in the ointment, Hans. The monkey in the wrench. The pain in the ass. There’s always a boat out there, waiting for you. Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker.

    Yours sincerely,
    IR Officer, John McClane”

    …meanwhile

Tamil Tigers. Coming. Check. Hamas. Oops. Check. Al Queda. Maybe. Check. Somali Pirates. Probably. Check. IRA. Sure. Check. Hong Kong Triad. Absolutely.Check…

I’m sincerely sorry if I left out any international terrorist group currently represented in Canada. It’s not that I don’t respect your cause; it’s just that researching and processing you is time consuming and parking downtown next to the main Library is a bitch.

Also, being a True Patriot and such, and always a sucker for home grown talent I’m tempted to ask “Where does this leave our brothers and sisters in the Hell’s Angels, eh?”
Our Canadian Book on Immigration reads like a Health Book. Full of glowing farts and fuzzy feelings I assume. But remember Mark Twain’s words “Be careful of reading Health Books. You may die of a misprint.”

Anyway. It’s all good. It seems everyone is busy. The Border Patrol is busy. The Immigration Officers are busy. The Prison and Correction Officers are busy. The Police, the Fire Dept. The Medical Staff are busy. The Interpreters are busy. The Social Workers are busy. The CSIS spooks are busy. The defence lawyers billing by the hour are busy. The Tamil activists are busy…

Again, if I missed anyone, not my fault….

We live in Vancouver and this keeps us busy.

Alex, I couldn’t agree more and I can’t imagine why the government would be concerned about criticism from a vocal Tamil minority. These people were supported and shielded by the Liberals for years until the Conservatives had the courage to ban them as a Terrorist organization. It’s not like any of them would ever vote Conservative.

As someone else pointed out today, how many refugees do countries like China, Japan, & South Korea take in each year?

If these people have paid $50,000 for the trip and are taken straight to YVR and put on the next plane back that would end the problem right there. The smugglers would have to go looking for a country of bigger chumps than us which would be a frustrating search for them. Then I read that Harper has put a moratorium on returning failed refugee applicants to Pakistan until things ‘stabilize’ and I realize the chance of anyone in Ottawa having the balls to do anything about this are zero.

    Sigh……

  6. Larry Bennett says:

The Conservative Party Fund raisers phoned me yesterday, a young Filipina woman asking for a donation for the Fall election and I told her there isn’t likely to be one, though if they ever wanted an issue they could win on, the Tamil joke was it. Told her I had already emailed Jason Kenney, and told what was needed for another donation. I suspect Harper and his people are getting the message, but I know too that he must move slowly. Then again, I’m quite aware that the last thing they need is more money, they’re drowning in it. Time to make use of the “not withstanding clause”. As for the floods in Pakistan, these floods have been occurring for thousands of years, and with all the cheap labour they still haven’t figured out the need for dams, berms and other water control projects. Let their Muslim brethren “bail” them out with all that oil money.

  7. Keith says:

I was listening to Roy Green on CKNW a few days ago, and he had a guest who was talking about people who come to Canada by normal means, claiming to be refugees simply to take advantage of the Federal Government’s income assistance, as well as other benefits for refugees. They disappear when the benefits run out, most likely returning home.
You could call them “Tourist Refugees”.
Not being the most honest people, I suspect they also get up to illegal activities while in Canada.
