NDP MLA Leonard Krog Needs a Good Noggin’ Shaking
And this is precisely why the NDP could very well lose the next election no matter what the polls say.
A twelve year-old boy in Nanaimo is a stick-up artist. He’s been booked dozens upon dozens of times by the Nanaimo RCMP and has a list of over 100 (!!!) run ins with the law.
So this is clearly a problem child, right? He definitely needs some help, right? He should be in a place where he can get some love and care and serious counseling, right?
Wrong. Wrong according to NDP MLA Leonard Krog. He said, and i quote: “Where is the Ministry of Children and Families in all this?”
What a fool.
WHERE ARE THIS KID’S PARENTS?!?!?!?!?!? That’s where you get your first bit of love Lennie, you twit, and not with some govt service that’s going to stick you in a place where some perverted orderly has easy access to the kid’s undershorts.
Where are his relatives? Grandparents? Godparents? Foster parents? A friend? The cornerstore owner whose son is the kid’s schoolmate? Anybody? How ’bout Mr. Krog himself offering to help? That’s what I would have done.
But typical of the left, they immediately want a govt answer–the most costly method, thanks. And from where?? A Ministry that is woefully adrift, thanks to Proud Mary’s adherence to her very close pal Gordon’s orders–a ministry that Mr. Krog has appropriately criticized before.
Oh, sorry, I forgot, the govt will find a way, so screamed Barrett, so yelled Harcourt, so pleaded Dosanhj, so said Clark. Social services will pick this extremely troubled chap up and some care worker will really show him the ropes alright. The boy needs love and guidance in his life. And someone who will reinforce good counseling at home. Not send him back to his white room with black curtains.
Pathetic.
Unbelievable.
Leornard Krog. Pure Genius…marvel at his acumen.

Truth is its possible the kid has no one at home we have to consider there are kids with no parents or grandparents or other relatives ,I firsthand have had 3 through my home ive helped it does happen more than soem know politics aside the issue needs better resources but suffers cuts to put roofs on stadiums and that gives Krog his soapbox spot somewhat rightfully as far as priorities with govt go , if the kids parents follow Gordon campbells example id bet they are in a bar seeing who they can shaft for a few bucks screw the kids , we do have to give some thought to why a 12 yr old ends up in this mess .

Right and in my book it all begins at home. If the kid has parents, fine, after the first dozen infractions, where was Krog then? The point is, there is often a solution outside of govt intervention. And sending the boy to a Ministry allowed to slip into the depths by Proud Mary? Not smart.

Agree there Alex im a single dad 2 teen boys and id never let mine go to the place this kid has but i have seen kids left out and hanging in cracks and Krog as far as his constituency office it does good work i am told all said and done and politics aside that is their job .
Grandstanding is about all the MSM allows them though and id guess you take what you get sometimes .

True enough. I just think Leonard’s better than this.
If the NDP really cared about the abuses and nightmares of the MCFD, there is ample low-hanging fruit out there for them to pick and throw at Mary. But that requires and inspirational leader and some guts.

Im not a Krog fan either not sure what it is i used to find his work good not so sure these days was just saying they [MCFD] give the ammo for his soapabox rants lol.

LOL!

That is exactly why most voters are turned off by politics and politicians. No matter what the issue, observation, or situation, both sides ALWAYS work the blame on the sitting government. I for one am sick of it.
It is my politically uneducated and unbridled opinion that the line that shot Gordon Wilson to fame was his look at the two buffoons on the dais with him and said: “This reminds me of the legislature and here’s a classic example of why nothing ever gets done in the province of British Columbia,” sums up most persons view of government and opposition.

I completely agree. Well put.

Keep government out of the family, excellent comment Alex, nothing more could be said to improve it, but then, most solutions are simple, and complexity and cost comes with bureaucracy.

Krog is espousing the required left wing rhetoric which as you mentioned is one reason why people would like to see two non NDP type governments in this province to give people a good choice at the polls. Which would also keep the BC Libs honest.
Right now the Libs know that no matter what they do there is an excellent chance people will hold their nose and vote BC Lib at election time.

As a follow up i read the boys mother has been to ministry offices almost unendingly looking for help and is turned away so Krog may have a bit more of a case here as to where resources to help with problems such as this are.
the mother appeasr to be trying there is no support system to help herthis should get some attention.

Apparently mother needs one too… an excerpt from the National Post
The mother of a 12-year-old boy charged with attempted armed robbery insists that she has done her best to discipline her child, and that the B.C. government has let her family down.
“My life is hell. People have no idea,” she said. “Yes, I’ve gotten help from the ministry, all these different programs. But obviously they’re not working because there is something wrong,”

So — the Ministry has been involved, but according to her haven’t done enough. Clearly this woman has bought into the liberal notion that the Government will protect you from cradle to grave.
There used to be this strange notion of personal responsibility. I don’t necessarily blame the Mom, after all where’s dad? The Post article mentions the woman is a single mother with two other kids. She must bear the brunt of the responsibilty, but it should be her’s alone. Where’s Daddy?
Sometimes marriages break-up and it makes it tough one the kids, but no one should be allowed to abdicate their responsibilities. It is more than just dead-beat Dad’s who aren’t providing financial support. There is a hell of a lot more to parenting than just opening the wallet.
What would be nice would be for society to recognize once again that Father knows best, Mother knows better, and Big Brother doesn’t know sh!t.

WHERE ARE THE PARENTS???? HOW ABOUT WHERE IS THE MEDICAL SYSTEM??? This child obviously has a medical “neurological disorder” that is undiagnosed. If the child had cancer and had not received treatment due to inability to get him into the hospital you would NOT be yelling at the parents you would be screaming about our medical system. It is VERY VERY DIFFICULT to get Child and Adolescent Psychiatric help. Families are screaming for help but no one hears them. I have been there, done that twice and I will continue to live in a world of mental illness for many years to come with my children. Before you condem, critisize and question this parent (and no I do not know her personally I only know my story) maybe you should try to walk a day in her shoes. Trust me you will be exhausted by noon. We need someone to speak out about the lack of support services and medical attention that will keep these special needs children out of incarceration.

Ma’am, my point is lost on you, clearly. If the mother has two other well-adjusted children, marvelous. If this lad has gone sideways, that’s unfortunate. But at some point, personal responsibility has to enter the picture. It’s not like he’s an axe-murderer and something went off in his head. Mom has to make her point clear: There are no physicians look at the boy? No counsellors? No psychologists? No one available. That Mr. Krog chose to bring into play a completely adrift ministry, with an ineffective minister and useless deputy, makes it clear: He was simply playing politics, instead of picking up the phone, calling the mother and providing a list of those who might be able to provide assists.
The cancer analogy is absurd, with respect. Cancer is not often curable, while bad behavior is.
[Translate]
Wow you really haven’t experienced mental health…..it is a neurological disorder not bad behaviour…this does not mean we condone the behaviour what it means is that due to severe processing issues something is not working within this child’s brain that hinders processing……I waited on a waitlist for nearly a year 2 times until we were in crisis…..medical help, diagnosis, appropriate medication, and intervention is the key and the start….Both times things did not have to get as bad as they did if help was readily available….During a time of crisis friends can be hard to come by but if you are offering to help the next time meds need to be adjusted and we are on that LOOOOONG waitlist for intervention that apparently doesn’t exist I would appreciate any help in which your are offering to provide.

The mother has stated that this is her 3rd child, with the other two being perfectly fine. This particular child needs some sort of medical intervention and support from someone as she is not able to deal with him. For goodness sakes people, give people some credit. Krog made his statement on the fact that he knew this, not kneejerk, like most comments here.
[Translate]
No one is being kneejerk. He was playing politics. He knows the MCFD is useless and has been so under the Liberals, so he comes out and blames them for being so?
[Translate]
i have suffered years of abuse at the hands of the mcfd, they and the ndp caused me to launch two recalls in the 90′s and krog still preaches their idiotic gospel
we should be very cautious at this point in our political history, the ndp are expecting a cakewalk because of mr fantastic vander zalm and his right wing wienies splitting the vote
just remember who put us in the gutter with bingogate, the fast ferries and the perpetual bs
sure the hst sucks, but is it worth getting the ndp back? we can axe the tax and avoid the ndp too… a win-win situation

The sooner the NDP get rid of Carole James the better it will be for the party. I have watched James for years whining and complaining about the Campbell government when what I as a voter really wanted to hear from her was sound alternatives and options.
She has always come across as a whiner rather than a viable political alternative. Good riddance to her and good luck to her replacement.
