THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO STOOD UP FOR STANLEY PARK!
Below is a ‘Front and Center’ segment I did while some friends in Ottawa were sending me emails thanking me, AND ALL OF YOU, for making it easier for them to say ‘NO’ to the idiocy Gregor Robertson thought was okay–namely that renaming Stanley Park was a good idea.
Hurray for Stockwell Day, James Moore and certainly, Prime Minster Stephen Harper and the federal government for their unshakable and principled leadership on this matter..
Over 3200 emails received (prior to putting up the petition page this afternoon) and dozens upon dozens of comments and only ONE negative.
Although, I must tell you, the native aboriginal superiority movement will not take this lying down. Gordon Campbell has shamelessly opened their appetites and they’re hungry for more. Too bad they do not want to change the way aboriginals in this country live. Too bad their elders and leaders don’t care about them. just the next over-the-top treaty, billboard or casino. Shame!
If the Mayor and his equally useless counterparts in Vision Vancouver want consultation, why not consult about how to help inner city aboriginal kids that are playing chase the dragon on a daily basis, and filling their veins full of hell?
Too much work, I suppose. They’d actually have to take a position on something serious, instead of waffling. They’d have to do some heavy-lifting.
As for the ‘Friends of Stanley Park’, we’re still going to leave the website up for now…just in case.
So, here, below is the latest installment, enjoy and as always, your feedback is very welcome.
The Thought of The Day
” Gregor of All Trades, Master of None!”
It’s official. Jack is pissed off.
This Mayor of Vancouver is ‘taking care of business’…Joel style. Locally, but with a global approach.
Robertson and his Visionaries are ‘concerned’ with so many things, that ultimately they are not capable of taking care of our ‘civic business’.
With no vocation, no trade, and no apparent skill, all that’s left for him is…Saving the World. One tree, fish and orphan pelican at a time.
The trick is to choose carefully, though. The deadline, that is. Say, by year 2098! And they are all set.
I say it’s about time, after more than a year and a half of ramblings, that this mayor and council start acting in the interest of those who put them there. They don’t need to worry further than their job descriptions. Period.
The following, is required listening for any decent politician, not that it is going to make a dent in their Armour of Shame :

Campbell, Robertson, Louie, Jasper, Solomon, Reimer…are all living on their own Happy Planet.
Well done Alex, as always! Run them out of town? Yes, please!
I’ll bring the Tar and Feathers… Backyard chicken quality.
We live in Vancouver and this keeps us busy.

Just read the great news regarding Stockwell Day’s comments, re: no name change for Stanley Park.
FINALLY SOME COMMON SENSE!!!!
Kudos to all who supported the friends of Stanley Park and kudos to all who spoke out.
I understand the Prime Minister is quite a fan of the Queen and the British Monarchy. Maybe she leaned on him a bit and influenced this proper decision
Great news at any rate, and my faith has been somewhat restored in our federal leaders……for now.
Good job Alex.

Thx James, but as you’ll see in my next story, Chief Campbell doesn’t care about what you think, it’s Xwayxway or the highway…very foolish man. Thx for your kind words.

Thanks for all your hard work Alex…. I thank you and so do my grandchildren.

Extremely kind. I’m humbled by your words. I wish you well.

Grew up in East Van Sundays were always spent with family at Stanley Park , never ever should it change names , maybe a spot dedicated to explaining the native village but thats enough.

Still have the bigger part of my family there do visit and am proud of the place and people and never be happy hearing anything other than Stanley is the name of that park!!

Absolutely. It’s why I took the position I did.

Personally I think the preservation of Stanley Park in as natural a state as possible with a minimum of tacky commercial development is far more important than what it is called – sort of “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet” philosophy.
However I have never been a fan of corporate branding of stadia and arenas and am very amused by the change of the Chevy Garage to Rogers Place (or whatever) – as far as I can tell there are absolutely NO Rogers services available for my purchase, and I live in BC and am a Canuck fan – or are they gonna come west and take on telus and Shaw? I don’t even notice many rogers subscribers visiting any of the website/blogs I help with, unless they are east of Manitoba – out here it’s all telus or Shaw or smaller ISPs.
I much prefer the old style names like the L.A Coliseum rather than the Staples Center, Briggs Stadium compared to whatever is is today – (or is it Tiger Stadium today?), and the Montreal Forum or Maple Laugh Gardens to their current names………Lord Stanley’s name would be better for the place where the Canucks play hockey than GM or Rogers – and Lord Stanley does have a genuine connection to the game through his donation of one of the most hotly contested trophies in sport! Of course until the Canucks win a cup or two it would be somewhat presumptuous to call their barn after Lord Stanley………even the Habs don’t do that (though they would have to give up money from Bell and the trophy itself is as far as “sponsorship” goes in this case I would imagine – there is no money in promoting Lord Stanley’s name
Come to think of it, that’s where I would really be ready to take up arms, if they wanted to rename Stanley Park say CN park or Accenture Acres. .

Well, the native aboriginals are not far behind. They are completely consumed with the crass commercialism you rail against.

If there was ever any attempt to corporate brand Stanley Park, I’d get in front of the face of Gregor Robertson and shout him down good.
Not a fan of corporate branding, it’s just a money train for the facilitiy. Corporate branding belongs in places like Disneyland.
So what does The Garage become? The Call Centre? Phone Booth? Rogers missed it. They should have stated that formally it would be called Rogers Canucks Arena, shortened to Canucks Arena (or Place).
Hope I don’t see some stupid looking Rogers mascot parading around the concourse. That is Fin’s territory, no one elses.

You’d find me standing right next to you.
