Sean Holman Takes Off the Gloves…Finally!

8

No secret Sean Holman is one of the finest investigative reporters this province will ever see. You look at the body of work he’s accomplished and it’s significantly deeper and better than most people at the end of their careers. I note for the record, Sean is in his thirties with another three decades of this, without question.

But below, you will find an example of what happens when someone incredibly competent takes the gloves off. It’s leaves the intended target flat out on the floor, bloodied and unconscious.

Sean covered two glaring, embarrassing moments by the provincial Libs this week, but without the trademark (sometimes acerbic) politeness.

He actually took the gloves off!  I’ve been waiting for this for some time, being a fan of the ole bare knuckle Webster days…

Well done, Sean.

You can read his foray into brawling here.

Hopefully, we’ll see more of it. It’s not his nature, but it sure as hell is effective.

Encore!

Good link, AGT. Sean is not exactly MSM but he certainly has earned respect so broadly that he stands apart from most “new media.” I love seeing the passion breaking through. It’s not being partisan, it’s being impatient with stupidity and dishonesty, something sorely lacking among too many pundits and news providers. And, I mean idiocy from both sides of the aisle since we are badly served not just by this government but also by the meek opposition.

I loved Sean’s encounter with Lesley du Toit. As always, the uncaring and thoughtless are revealed by their own words.

Hi Norman, great to have you over–as always. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed this clip when Sean put Lesley Du Toit on the spot. She is an insufferable harridan. I cannot fathom how she thinks not sitting down with Judge Turpel-Lafond makes any sense at all. But you can clearly see from her miserable snout that she cares almost as little or the press as she does for the children at risk under her Ministry. What shocks me to no end is Mary Polak. She has a very good relationship with the Premier, and should sit him down and tell him to fire Du Toit and implement all the recommendations of the Hughes Report.

As for today’s link, yeah, Sean will smirk at my editorial of his comments because I’ve been telling him for ages to get a little angry (inside joke)…he’s one of a kind.

I check out Public Eye regularly and find Mr. Holman to be a much more credible source of information when compared to the MSM. If he has biases, he is very good at hiding them. He treats both the NDP and the BC Liberal party in an equal manner and does a credible job of ferreting out little gems that seem to fall through the cracks.

He has even subbed for some regulars on CKNW in the past, and I always found him much better than the hosts he was temporarily replacing. Maybe that is why he hasn’t been heard from for quite a while on the Top Dog.

One thing I have noticed in the last couple of months is that he has been more obvious in seeking new subscribers. Even your good buddy Bill T. posted a comment urging people to pony up to keep Sean’s site a viable entity. Could it be that our current provincial government has urged some of its supporters to withdraw their financial support to Public-Eye? Sean may know if this is the case or not, but I wouldn’t put it past them as the politicians of today seem to have thinner skin than a lambskin condom.

Once this missive is posted, I will be going to his site and signing up as a paying interloper. I can’t wait for my first brown envelope. Maybe it will contain the same largesse as those that Brian Mulroney received from Karl Heinz-Schreiber. I know, dream on!

In closing, maybe you can coerce some of your regular readers and posters to do the same. It would be a shame to see such an independent site bite the bullet from lack of financial support.

Hey Cranky: PEO is the go-to resource for everything provincial, certainly. Sean does a magnificent job. I thoroughly enjoy his commentaries and he is first-class in getting the story across. His March 3rd video that Norm Farrell references regarding Lesley Du Toit, the Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Children and Families, is a wonderful display of tough questioning and good, solid journalism.

And you should donate to Public Eye Online, it’s a most valuable site. We would all be much poorer for losing it. Everyone should. Please go to http://www.publiceyeonline.com and give what you can.

Thank you all for your kind words. It’s very much appreciated. The Lesley du Toit interview was particularly frustrating. She’s the top bureaucrat at the ministry of children and family development. As such, she should be capable of taking questions about the statements she had just made before a public committee. The fact she wasn’t is troubling. As far as taking my gloves off, I do draw the line between editorial and reporting. And, for the most part, I’m a reporter. My weekly editorial on my radio show allows me to indulge my opinions.

    • AGT says:

Thx Sean. We’re big fans of PEO around here. Keep up the great work.

    • Norm Farrell says:

In the du Toit clip, Sean was only a reporter. He let her words and images tell the story. But, he sought them. Too many of his colleagues are prepared to act as mere repeaters of carefully formed talking points. I imagine that some Victoria pundits spend more time talking to flacks and lobbyists than to individual MLAs.

Reporters may demonstrate bias by things they don’t report. I would like to see serious examination of backbenchers. If one enters politics in good faith, with a fine community reputation and a desire to achieve social good, how do you feel when you are pushed into the background and told to stay quiet unless you are speaking words pre-approved by unelected servants of the leader?

The Friday morning gathering of pundits on CKNW continually amazes me when the participants act as PR agents for such as the IPPs. Fish farms got similar treatment when that was expanding dramatically. These are reporters who see their job as explaining government to the citizens. Sean wants to expose all sides of government, the good and the bad.

      • AGT says:

Yes, Norm the Friday morning feature is still tiresome drivel. Vaughn chimes in with some reasonable points, but Keith Baldrey is totally gone, and Vanilla Bill, well, it’s all in binder number two by that point. He just reads what Rebecca and Craig pretend they know. Pathetic.
