Joyce Murray’s Wide Open Spaces

16

I’m sure I must have done something to my ribs from laughing so hard over this one.  Vancouver Quadra perennial embarrassment, Liberal MP Joyce Murray, is looking to find accommodation for Grit Senators and other “dignitaries” in the homes of her Liberal “friends” and any willing dupes in the riding.

Perhaps she might consider the space between her ears. It’s large enough to house every single Grit Senator in the country.

Sorry just I couldn’t resist.

You can read about it here.

Ah, good old Joyce. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen her, and I doubt she would remember me, but she certainly did try to get me into the Liberal fold during her time in New West. I was working for a non-profit on Columbia street and her office was up the hill. We would often get calls from her office to help various constiuents down on their luck, and in doing so, I came to meet her, and her assistant.

During this time, my employer and I were invited to come to a Liberal ladies luncheon hosted at the Westminster Club by Joyce. Our executive director warned me it was a stab at getting us into the fold, and sure enough, after the food was eaten, the drinks were flowing and the speeches were done, Joyce came over and asked if I had an interest in politics…..

Well, considering Campbell has just slashed our funding with no notice, I said yes and told her why. She looked at me and said: ” The Liberals need more women like you, Laila. We really do. Why don’t you come by my office one day and we’ll chat.”

I couldn’t believe it. Of course, I never went, but her assistant kept trying, saying what a great fit I would be with the Liberal party…..

Imagine. Me – a Liberal! It was a good try though.

    • AGT says:

Joyce Murray is the single most pathetic, ill-suited, under-qualified politician in this province. Hedy Fry, Libby Davies, Jenny Kwan, they’re all on the same ship of fools, but Joyce is Captain, no question.

  2. George says:

They’ve had more than enough time(7 years) to save their pennies to pay for a hotel room. There are still rooms available.
Please help support our economy, rent a room, so we can pay for this event that is sucking the life out of this province. In my opinion….

    • AGT says:

That;s what gets me. Before I filed the story, I called around to many hotels from mid-range to luxury. Lots of rooms available. I think she’s just looking for publicity. Joyce is a total joke. The Liberal organizers in Quadra who I talk to can’t stand her. Not one has been accepting or complimentary. But getting her out would be more work and a battle they don’t need. Mind, as long as Deb Meredith is the Tory candidate, forget it, Joyce wins on the strength of the old school Liberal vote in Quadra…that could turn, at least by half, if the Tories ran a high-profile PROGRESSIVE Conservative.

You know I’ve heard of billeting students and athletes.

People/adults looking to learn another language find it easier when staying with a family, as opposed to just taking classes.

But when Federal MP’s who make what, $130,000 per annum and have an expense account attached, are asking supporters to free up a room for them to stay…………..

All I can say is WOW!

I suppose one could ascertain that Aaron Jasper of Park Board fame, who just recently short-changed the conservatory at their fundraiser, paying just half the entrance fee, must be a card-carrying federal Liberal.

It seems about right that the dim-wit Jasper and the dim-wit Murray think along the same lines that others need to pay for their walk through life.

We’re really talking about bottom of the barrel these days.

  4. Oh the Liberals ( and all politicians for that matter ) are so hard done by. This is what our tax dollars get, someone who is so concerned about lodging a bunch of spoiled idiots during a multi-million dollar party for the rich. I’m sure there is nothing more pressing for our Liberal MP’s than a good nights rest. Maybe they can all do there annual ” Let’s connect with the homeless” by staying in a shelter. How many times have we seen politicians use a wheelchair for a day or spend a day with the homeless to make it look like they really care. Then of course comes the media conference to let us all know what a terrible thing is happening in our Country. Well here’s your chance to do it again. Last not but not least, I agree with your description of Joyce Murray but I believe we’ve got you beat here in Victoria with the shameless Keith Martin. I can’t believe how many times this guy is allowed to air his BS on local radio CFAX, which by the way is a bit of a joke in itself. One more observation Please… Did you notice our illustrious Premier at the BIG unveiling of the Olympic podiums. I sat there and said, this man will do anything for a little media attention. Are these two guys so insecure
( Gordon & Furlong ) that they must always be together for any meaningless presentation. I mean…How important is it for the Premier of BC ( struggling in debt ) to attend a ceremony with a wooden podium.

  5. Tim Hilson says:

So if we agree to letting a Liberal MP stay with us, do we get to pick who it is?

I was thinking Belinda Stronach, because I’m married and I hear she likes that in her men.

Damn it, she’s not an MP anymore.

Oh, wait, Ruby Dhalla could help me with my nanny.

Forget it, the nanny just yelled out, “over my dead body”.

What about Ralph Goodale, that good old Saskatchewan boy.

Maybe not. The wife isn’t crazy about any financial information in the house being leaked to outsiders.

Yeah, yeah yeah, John McCallum thats it. With a possible terror threat in Vancouver during the Olympics, it would be good to have a former Defence Minister in our house.

F*ck. I just did some reading and found out he may have been the most useless Defence Minister we’ve ever had.

    Alright, I give up.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as the perfect Liberal house guest?

  6. larry Bennett says:

Well Joyce, I have a 340 sq. ft. bachelor suite but it only has a loveseat because of size restraints. I do have a single (or do they call it a twin?) which could accommodate two if you like cozy. Prefer female under 60, not that there’s anything wrong with other combinations!
Could be their last “outing” after Stevie gets his appointments in place and starts to push for an elected Senate.

  7. Crankypants says:

She may not heard of them, but we have these things called hotels. Why do all these politicians think they shouldn’t pay retail for anything?

And if the hotel thing doesn’t work for them, then maybe some homeless type can direct them to some of his or her favourite crash sites.
