McKenna: “The Door is Ajar…”

In what must be one of the most unethical and resolutely disingenuous statements by a former politician, Frank McKenna, someone I have always admired has made a public statement I can only describe as desperate and indicative of the sad, sad, state of the Liberal Party of Canada.

McKenna, who I would suggest is the only potential leadership candidate that could give Stephen Harper a truly challenging run, suggested that he might come back to public life if there was a “national crisis”.

My friends, this is no ordinary former politician.  McKenna, Vice Chairman of the TD Bank, is a very sharp fellow with intelligence to match his bravura.  A highly successful, although often times, controversial former Premier of New Brunswick, he knows better than to set up such an incredibly dangerous straw man.

What does it say about the Liberals when McKenna comments in a recent interview with the Telegraph-Journal, that the only way he’ll come back is if there is a “national crisis”.  Imagine how vicious the Libranos have become!  The best of them, would contentedly take the country to the brink of disaster in the faint hope that they might tack that to the Conservatives’ hide and win back govt so they can feed the sweaty hucksters in the Grit backrooms.

And Ignatieff calls Harper vicious and reckless?

Of course, the reporter, in the role of adoring stooge, doesn’t put the screws to McKenna in the interview.  Not  a word about what he meant, although I suspect it was obvious.

I’d lost total respect for the Liberals after how they dealt with AdScam and then Dion, followed by the unelected Ignatieff, but now, my loathing includes McKenna.  He knew exactly what he was doing.  As soon as he made the statement, he tried to neutralize it by spouting some mindless pap about how he’d hope that it wouldn’t come to that.  Sure Frank.  What an asinine thing to say from someone who should know better.  Much better.  It tells you about the mindset of the Liberals if the best of them are so ruthless.

Nothing, absolutely noting, should get in the way of returning them to power, to satisfy their greed, including the country’s unity; economy, etc.

Read McKenna’s comments here.  And as a follow up to the by-elections, read a superb review of Liberal fortunes, by John Ivison (one of the best columnists in the country) in the National Post (even though he is being far too generous to the NDP).
